Cheney’s Super Secret Plan: Kill or Capture the Enemy?
Commentary Magazine ^ | 07/13/09 | Jonathan Tobin

Posted on 07/13/2009 7:17:59 AM PDT by Jbny

On Sunday, the New York Times struck another blow against the Bush administration’s counter-terrorism measures with a front-page story alleging that a CIA program was kept secret from Congress for eight years. The orders to keep Congress out of the loop — which sound flagrantly illegal — came, according to the story, straight from then Vice President Dick Cheney.

Obama Bin Laden, the Nuclear armed communist leader and friend of the Iranians.

Cheney could only order it kept from the Senate. He would have that authority as ‘President of the Senate’.

The “secret Central Intelligence Agency initiative terminated by Director Leon Panetta was an attempt to carry out a 2001 presidential authorization to capture or kill al Qaeda operatives, according to former intelligence officials familiar with the matter.”

That's outrageous. This must be stopped! [/sarcasm]

Well, not exactly...Agencies “brief” congressional intelligence committees in order to get/secure funding. So they could just report to the exec, but they may risk funding cutoffs if they do not maintain a relationship with the HSCI or the SSCI.

“Yep, pretty dastardly of the VP wanting to kill our enemies that are at war with us.”

Under Obama, only our capitalist allies will be killed.

...and our economic system, our morality, our freedom of speech, our liberty and justice.

Kill and capture are not in the Democrat lexicon.

Cuddle and fondle are.

When you are in a war, leaders have to do things to win it, including killing or capturing the enemy. DOH!

How does this secret commando unit stand up against Churchill’s decision not to evacuate a British city before a planned air raid because it would reveal to the Germans that the British had broken their secret code?

I don’t recall the British ever going after Churchill with an investigation of it.

Cheney’s plan seems if we don’t have enough enemies, create some more then kill them.

Bush, the Elder, managed to get most of the ME to help us in Gulf War I. Bush, the Younger, managed to turn that around by not getting bin Laden dead or alive for 9/11 but instead opted to take out Saddam because Iraq was doable. Of course in the process of taking out Iraq he eliminated the barrier we now need for Iran. A sort of lose-lose plan.

Leon Paneta should go back to trying to hide Monica Lewinsky from the public. That was his prior covert assignment, and we all see how well he did it.

Surely that qualifies him to be head of the CIA.

"He polished that handle so carelessly, that he became the leader of the Queen's Navy."

Aren't these the same Democrats loudly asking why haven't we caught Bin Laden? How are we supposed to catch him or kill him without something like what they are talking about here?

Cheney had his own Deadly Viper Assassination Squad, ala “Kill Bill”.

At least that’s the Dem wet dream.

The problem the dems have is that most of the country doesn’t have a problem with that.

Nonsense. We went after Saddam as he was torturing and gassing his own people; he was going to cause supply disruptions to world oil markets to cripple the West; and he was funneling money to terrorists. Stop with the DNC talking points - the adults made the right decisions here - snipers like you aren’t informed enoough to make adult decisions. Get back to day camp or I’ll tell your parents!

Wow, attempting to take effective action against the enemy. That certainly sounds illegal. I’m sure the media thinks it ought to be, anyway.

The only thing that’s got me mildly puzzled is why the order to keep it from Congress came from Cheny. Shouldn’t it have come from the President himself?

Unlike most Presidents, Bush actually selected a competent person to be his VP, and delegated a great many responsibilities to him.
