Ensign Says He'll Seek Re-Election
Talking Points Memo ^ | 7/14/09 | Rachel Slajda

Posted on 07/14/2009 11:02:26 AM PDT by steve-b

Despite admitting to having an affair and having his parents pay off his mistress, Sen. John Ensign (R-NV) yesterday said he plans to stay in office -- and run for re-election in 2012.

Ensign told the Las Vegas Sun he's been getting emails and phone calls from supporters urging him to stay put. Those supporters, he said, include senators on both sides of Senate leadership.

"I fully plan on running for reelection," Ensign said. "I'm going to work to earn their respect back."

He quoted his supporters as saying, "Keep your head up. This thing will pass."

Shocking...and we thought all along you just felt guilty about this affair and needed to get it off your chest. We never suspected that it was the disclosure of politically damaging information far in advance of a reelection bid!

I think those supporters that Ensign is talking about are his right hand and his left hand telling him to hang in there. What about his wife? Good grief, is this the best Nevada can do? I guess looking at Harry Reid.

Republicans pay off their mistresses.

Teddy killed his.

Rats rewarded Teddy for his foresight...after all, it’s just a late abortion.

I too am tired of repubs falling on their swords because they are trying to be noble. Pull up your boots Ensign and wade thru the BS in Congress and work for the conservatives now and that will earn your respect again. I do abhor the deed he did though, but at least he didnt leave her in a car to drown while saving his career. At least he is not calling her a stalker. I could go on..........

Find a Conservative candidate, back him, go door to door, and get him elected.

No, seriously. The governor is a Republican. Are there that few people on deck that he can’t quit and let the guy pick somebody who doesn’t screw his staffers (and his staffer’s wives, but I repeat myself) and then get mommy and daddy to pay them off? If so...that’s a problem.

Using Daddy’s Money to pay off his mistress will be hard to overcome.

“Keep your head up”

Yeah, John, that’s apparently where yours is. You’ve decided that self-respect (and respect for your constituents) is just too high a bar...

This guy isn’t even responsible to pay off his mistress out of his own pocket, he had to have mommy and daddy do it. This is a US senator??

We really are at an all time low, aren't we? But, hey, he's our snot-nosed brat of an adulterer, so I guess it's ok.

Well said I think. Always interesting to see if we are willing to compromise our standards for political expediency.

I’m as conservative as they come, but if Ensign runs again, I hope he loses.
