Palin becomes MoveOn target as SarahPAC cash haul surges
CNN ^ | July 14, 2009 | Rebecca Sinderbrand and Tracy Sabo

Posted on 07/14/2009 2:18:39 PM PDT by Al B.

(CNN) – Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin's political action committee is confirming a flood of new donations that push her cash haul close to the million-dollar mark, as one of the nation's largest liberal PACs announced an ad targeting the former GOP vice presidential candidate.

Palin spokeswoman Meg Stapleton confirmed a report in the Anchorage Daily News that more than $200,000 had poured into SarahPAC since Palin's announcement a week and a half ago that she would be leaving office by the end of the month.

Those funds, along with $732,867 received through June 30 according to federal campaign finance filings, leave the governor just shy of a million dollars in donations to date since SarahPAC's January launch.

[...]

The news came as MoveOn.org began e-mailing members Tuesday, asking them to fund a rapid response ad blasting Palin's new Washington Post op-ed that criticized President Obama's position on "cap and trade" legislation — a major part of the administration's effort to overhaul the nation's energy policy.

The group said Palin was positioning herself as the face of conservative opposition to Obama's energy policy, telling supporters her op-ed was "a marvel of misinformation and outright lies."

The group has not yet said where the spot would air, or revealed the scope of any potential ad buy.

Unfortunately, there will also be “bumps in the road” for Sarah Palin, after she fully endorses John McCain’s re-election to Arizona’s U.S. Senate seat in ‘10

I'll see it when it happens, and if she does, it's no biggie. If it wasn't for McCain she wouldn't be were she is anyway.

as well as probably endorse other RINO candidates over their truly conservative opponents for a variety of political offices in ‘10 and beyond.

Why would she endorse the very people who are out to destroy her?

Maybe, but I don’t think it’s that clear-cut. Senators are legitimately worried about the reactions of their constituants to Cap and Tax. I read somewhere (probably here) that Oklahoma would see an average utility bill hike of about $3,000/year for it’s citizens. In this time of economic distress, I can’t see a Senator voting ‘yes’ to a hike like that and still expect to stay in office. I know the House passed it, but the Senate, traditionally, isn’t as whacked out as the House. The last article I read showed Inofe (sp?) calling this DOA in the Senate, and that they had maybe 34 votes for this bill. I just can’t see this going from 34 votes to an easy passage just to exact revenge on Sarah Palin. Again, if this was a good bill, the Senate could have passed it within a day or two after the House vote.

Palin's PAC donated $5,000 to McCain's re-election campaign.

IMO, that's about as far as it's going to go. She'll probably thank McCain again, but as far as an actual endorsement it remains to be seen. More than likely she'll remain neutral in the primary and then support McCain if he's the Republican candidate.

I certainly don't think the left and rinos have anything left to throw at her. She has taken their best blows and is now stronger and in a better strategic position than she has ever been in. She is not a teflon candidate, rather she absorbs the blows and just keeps coming.

The leftists are beginning to realize this now. Kind of like Apollo Creed in the middle rounds of the first Rocky movie.

Are there any stories about how Sarah’s legal defense fund is doing? It should be doing as well as SarahPAC. I only see stories about SarahPAC.

You can take that to the bank. I’m doing all I can to oust Harry (Duh) Reid. There is SUCH a movement against him, here! The power-hungry dork. He hasn’t helped any constituents in 15 years or more. Slidin’ on his rep...(GACK!)

A couple of comments in the press indicate about $250K. They’re halfway there. Still needs help.

Evan Bayh is a democrat from Indiana...He was VERY conservative when he was in office while in the state. WHen he moved to Washington politics, he had to depend on the democrat party and their PACs to fund his election campaigns....THe more he depended on them, the more he had to vote with them....No vote no money.

Much of the money he has gotten were through the CLintons: that has dried up. At Christmas he tried to organize a group similar to the Blue Dogs in the House.

If Sarah were to help him raise funds....his vote would follow the money.....

That is WHY Sarah is stating she will campaign for conservative democrats......

Inadvertently the old Rino created a heroine for us. We need to quit holding our noses long enough to salute for that.

The libs hysteria reminds me of when the libs one minute accused Reagan of being a doddering fool who fell asleep in meetings, but in the next breath said he was scheming to starve children and blow up the world.

These people are deranged.

I don’t blame her if she supports McCain. Let’s face it, w/o him picking her, she would’ve never achieved a fraction of her prominence. It shows she has class and gratitude. Even Rush said that what ever else McCain did or might do, he would be grateful to McCain for his pick.

Supporting ANY RINOs is unacceptable, no matter what the reasons may be.

I agree with you, but right now you're just speculating. Sarah has made no indication that she'll endorse McCain or campaign for him. Her PAC gave his campaign 5 grand, but big whoop. Like I said, that's about as far as it'll probably go and of course Palin won't take any sides in the AZ primary.

If Sarah really is for the total advancement of conservatism, then she has also got to fully explain why it’s wrong to elect all leftists, including all RINOs, for both the short-term future and for the long-term future, to any political office, and this seriously includes Senator John McCain!

She is not supporting or will campaign for any leftists or RINOs. Why don't you wait until the 2010 elections start before bloviating?

No, you got it wrong.

Cap and Trade is
“a marvel of misinformation and outright lies.”

There, that’s better.

Reagan campaigned for moderates like Gerald Ford and Pete Wilson. He even put liberal Richard Schweiker on his ticket as VP in 1976.

I trusted him. I trust Sarah Palin. End of story for me.
