CARACAS, Venezuela – Dozens of National Guard troops seized control of a police station controlled by a leading opponent of President Hugo Chavez on Wednesday, adding to tensions between Venezuela's government and elected opposition officials.

About 40 National Guard troops tossed tear gas canisters at a police precinct post in the town of Curiepe, east of Caracas, shortly before dawn, said Elisio Guzman, director of the Miranda state police. He said the officers inside were forced to leave and the National Guard occupied the building.

Guzman said the motive behind the takeover was unclear and national government officials could not immediately be reached for comment.

"They started launching tear gas without mediating, without speaking with anyone," Guzman said in a telephone interview. He said he ordered officers under his command to stand down, telling them to "avoid any conflict."

The end game of Venezuelan Communism is found at the point of the bayonet. We are getting to take one.

Once everybody knows their labor is just handed to others, down it goes.

If you haven't seen it watch the Frontline video “The Hugo Chavez Show”. Says a lot of what the simple minded Obama is up to.

What goes on in the mind/non-mind of the soldier who lobs the tear-gas or fires their weapon? Anybody?

Chavez has been attacking the mayors, many of whom (particularly in the oil area) are opposed to him. He has seized regional tax moneys, stopped payment of municipal civil servant wages, and has also appointed regional “czars” who will run the cities, thereby bypassing the mayors and the local government officials and institutions.

I suspect this police station take-over is connected to that.

The army in VZ has essentially become nothing but Chavez’ goon squad. He’s gotten rid of all opposition within it.

You know, if they ever invade Honduras, they will find that Honduran soldiers shoot back.

This is typical thug/bully behavior. But if the Venezuelan people stand up to this guy, then he’ll fall. Of course 0 will denounce such an event as undemocratic and demand iranian peace-keepers be sent to restore the proper authority.

I don’t think Hugo would dare invade Honduras. For one thing, we have a mutual defense treaty with Honduras (because of our base there), so unless Barry can somehow get around that, we’d be bound to defend Honduras against Chavez.

Of course, now that I think of it, I did read that a US president has the right to abrogate any US treaty at any time, so maybe Barry would figure out a way to give Honduras to his good buddy Hugo after all. But the Hondurans would definitely fight back, no matter what.

I sincerely believe that if Hugo invaded Honduras, Obama would not ever resist it. The mutual defense treaty? Easy for him, that treaty was with the *legitimate* government of Honduras, not the one that threw out Zayala.

However I think if it happened, our military would get wind up being involved. Hugo would call Obama, then Obama, Ortega, and Hugo would call it an OAS operation to “restore democracy” to Honduras.

Our military, at the direction of Obama, would be busy flying Venezuelan troops into the country. Our planes would fly close support for Nicaraguan and Cuban troops. Our boys would either have to obey, or to revolt.

Can anyone truly say Obama would never order our military to support an OAS operation? I can hear it now, “in a supporting role, flying troops, supplies, food,, etc,,,to the forces restoring the legitimate elected government”.

Chavez is a buffoon, confirmed at the UN, and laughed at by the entire world. Yet Hillary and Obama takes his side as well as the Castro brothers against the people of Honduras. To think I would see the day the Castro brothers complain about another country acting in a non-democratic fashion, the chutzpah is jaw dropping. Hillary doesn’t blink an eye.

Will Hillary speak out against Chavez’s continued assault on democratic principles in Venezuela? Well if she is, it is not being broadcast too loudly. I wouldn’t bet on it.

Well, I tend to think you’re right. Obama would find a way of doing it, whether by simply abrogating the treaty or as you suggest, by claiming it was support for an OAS operation.

From the very start of this thing, I have worried about what would happen if Obama put our troops on the spot in something that would clearly be unjust and a misuse of our force. Fortunately, I suspect he may be a little nervous about it, too, and doesn’t want to challenge them (yet). I hope this is the case, at least, because I could see very bad things happening if he tries to do this.

Venezuala is already experiencing a brain drain. I’ve met many upper class Venezualans, doctors, businessmen, etc., who have left Venezuala until there is some drastic change.

Are you kidding? I predict that 0 does in fact deploy troops to Honduras - in close support of the chavistas who will restor Zelaya to power.
