...And Lance Armstrong did not win those 7 Tour De France races either!

Last Friday was my five-year-old son Jacob’s first sports day at his primary school, and when he powered over the finish line ahead of all his little classmates, he held his arms aloft and shouted ‘I’m the winner’, only to be taken aside and gently told by his teacher that there were no winners and it was all just a bit of fun.

This is what socialism does in the marketplace!

Get used to it. Your child has 12 more years of indoctrination. After that, he will be a good little comrade. You , on the other hand, need to learn to put the self esteem of all the other little budding comrades above your little racist, capitalist minded son.

I would counsel that parent to keep pushing and challenging the little boy. Explore his limits. Let him win as often as his efforts merit a win and endure a loss when his efforts don't measure up. That is the real world. Not the artificial, egalitarian world of the Marxist killjoys. Throttling back the challenges just leaves the maximum potential unexplored and untapped...and potentially wasted.

"...and made him wonder why he had pushed so hard to cross the finishing line first."

Precisely what was intended. The message is be like everyone else. You are no better (or worse) then others and you never will be whether you excel or fail in anything you try.

"...Sounds eerily similar to a socialist economy....

Truism: Conservatives want everyone to be equal at the starting line. Liberals want everyone to be equal at the FINISH line.

they can’t even legally defend themselves with their bare hands if attacked anymore.. and they let this happen just like we are letting it happen to us a little more slowly...we are the frogs in the pot...the american revolution was begun for much less than we’ve let go... when will we say enough?
