Letter: McCain should not run again
The Standard-Times, San Angelo, Tex. ^ | 2009-07-15

Posted on 07/15/2009 8:09:00 PM PDT by rabscuttle385

I am 58 years old and a lifelong Republican. I am writing this letter on behalf of myself and countless other Republicans who feel the same way I do. I am that good person who is tired of sitting back and doing nothing to change our government for the better.

I am calling on Sen. John McCain not to run again for the Senate from Arizona. He has served that state as a progressive Republican for a very long time and for the most part, I believe, honorably. There are two problems with that statement — one, that he is a progressive Republican and, two, that he has served for a very long time.

Over the past nine months, it has become clear that the Founders were correct in their thoughts that our representatives should serve only one or two terms and then return to their chosen professions and lives. Career politicians are part of the huge problems we are facing today.

There’s nothing wrong with being a progressive Republican. McCain just shouldn’t profess to be a conservative. He is not and every conservative knows it. Teddy Roosevelt is his favorite president? He’s the biggest progressive ever except for Woodrow Wilson and our current president.

The main reason I’m asking McCain not to run is the latest attack on Gov. Sarah Palin from the people who ran his campaign. He never defended her. He never reprimanded the people for doing the hatchet job. This speaks to his character. Either he never had any control over those staffers or he didn’t care. This leads me to wonder what kind of president he would have made.

He might ask what gives me the right to ask him not to run. Well, he did run for president. He wanted my money to fund his campaign. His party still wants my money to fund his re-election. He belongs to the party that’s supposed to support my views (and doesn’t). That’s what gives me the right.

Diane Montgomerie, San Angelo

I find myself wanting to defend Sarah Palin more than I otherwise might just because of the disgusting, slimy, unprincipled nature of the people who have attacked her, including such RINO eminence grises as Peggy Noonan, David Frum and Charles Krauthammer.

On the other hand, does anyone doubt that someone like Newt Gingrich could do a much much better job of outlining the conservative view than Palin? I LIKE Palin. I just think a lot of us have become reflexive adorers out of an understandable contempt for her enemies.

Is there anyone in AZ that can convince Kurt Warner to run for House or Senate? He is a terrific guy and would be a great, Conservative legislator. Please?

He won’t have to, because he will get his ASS kicked if any half decent candidate challenges him, whatever the party. People are tired of RINOs.

Will Someone in AZ primary this IDIOT??

Yeah... MaCaca should be PROUD of his daughter! /s.

============================================================================================================

Why is this important?... Because it tells me what McCain tried to hide from us social-conservatives all along. Palin was nothing more than a 'move,' a 'trick' to bring us to vote for him.

But his daughter, his wife and his ex-campaign manager and all the others linked to his campaign (like Mike Murphy, Mark McCinnon, Todd Harris... ) have now "come out of the closet" determined to move the party to the left and in doing so, have dumped on PALIN in different publications recently... They are ALL CONNECTED... and these are the ones who want to get rid off of Sarah in a hurry, after all for them, electing RINOs and Lefties is a very good business first and who knows what else

I used to ask: WHO IS THE GOP????... (no one has ever given a good answer) Well...these weasels ARE PART OF THE GOP... They think they know better than us what's good for the party. And I suspect - it's only logical - They are very influential in the GOP since these are the ones who are supposed to have ALL THE ANSWERS and so weal RINOs and LEFTIES listen to them.

So, the battle lines are drawn...

He did do that, and it was very disappointing. But he also started the whole “drill here, drill now” campaign, and has come out strongly against cap-and-trade.

Hey, if you look at my posting history, you’ll see that I think the GW scam is the greatest threat to our freedom since the Soviet Union. I was EXTREMELY disappointed when Newt did that.

On the other hand, how many major GOP pols can you think of who haven’t at least paid lip service to AGW? I don’t recall hearing Palin questioning its validity, do you?

The only major officeholder I can think of who has been forceful in calling the whole thing a fraud is Senator Inhofe - who has been downright heroic. But he won’t be running for president.

Can you think of anyone else?

Hank

This is how I responded to his last fundraising email (I live in AZ):

Senator McCain,

You have so much nerve...GO AWAY...You had your chance and look at the state of this Country and our party...the party that you took for granted and betrayed over and over and then expect to come and support you?

It's over..you will not be reelected. If you have any sense, you won't even run. Let some younger blood in to this party...your time is over, whether you go willingly, or with a fight.

Well... perky is not an adjective I would use

I changed overweight to perky because overweight sounded kinda mean. Perky is now code for overweight.

Honestly, I think that the person we are all waiting for has not surfaced yet.
I personally like Palin. I think that the media nad the democrats did such a good job of demonizing Newt, I do not think that he could win in a nationwide election.

Besides that he’s got a fat daughter with a big mouth.

Does Bill Clinton know about this?

"Honey, do these jeans make my butt look big?"

Wow, darling, those jeans make your butt look kinda perky.

See how well perky as code for overweight works.

Isn’t the FL primary closed? FL has many liberal Republicans who came there from PA and NY.

Hint, hint, hint,

Not to mention 10's of thousands of retired veterans. Who thought McCain was honey on ice cream.

McCain tripped the gag reflex for this retired Navy Master Chief.
