Thanks for answering my questions. That does fill in a lot of context for me.

Look at it from the deputy's point of view:
This young fellow gets out of a fire engine red European sports car (I know three large was a very cheap price for a car at that time, my dad paid more than that for his '67 Chevy, but I am talking about what the deputy saw) and starts reading the riot act as if he had every right to do so. Odds are that you had money and connections that would make his career either short or at least not particularly high flying.

I can't know for sure that was what went through his mind but it surely would explain why he was as flustered as he was.

Escort 9500ix.

When it picks up a stray fixed signal, that is say a K band automatic front doors for a store, after you pass it three times, it will store that signal and never squawk when you pass it again. All in all, quite a sophisticated piece of tech.

I haven’t had a ticket since I got it (knock on wood). Expensive little gadget, but I’d rather pay my $ for technology than feed the beast of goobermint.

Thanks..., I looked it up and it looks good. I had considered that brand before, but never got it. I also noticed something about another device — a radar shifting device (or something like that). That one was fairly expensive though... :-)

My speed trap story...

Driving up Eagle Ranch Road here in Albuquerque, I spot 3 squad cars parked in a parking lot on the other side of the road. Just then a police officer leaps into the traffic lane, radar gun in hand, and flags down the on coming car. After the car pulls into the parking lot he proceeds to high five the other officers.

That irked me. Bad enough they were pulling motorists over from around a blind spot, but they were enjoying it.

Once past these officers, I proceeded to flash my lights at oncoming traffic.

About 1/4 mile up the road, much to my surprise, a police officer jumps into my lane, radar gun in hand, and waves me over. I hadn't been speeding, so I had a bad feeling. The officer approached my vehicle, looking seriously pissed.

“Are you in some sort of distress, sir?” he asked.

“No. Why do you ask, officer?”

“You were flashing your lights. Usually that means that the driver or the car is in some sort of distress.”

“No, officer. My car is fine.”

“Well, sir, I think that maybe, for your safety, we should impound your car and perform a safety inspection. Would you like that, sir?”

“No, I would not, officer.”

“Then why were you flashing your lights at oncoming traffic?”

“Why officer, I was just reminding my fellow citizens about the importance of driving safely.”

The officer turned bright red. After a few seconds of silence, he motioned for me to remove my vehicle from his sight.

Great story Star Traveler but don’t try that today. You will be tasered, beaten, maced, hauled off to jail and fined. Hear that kids, this is 2009, don’t try this. Bad Idea!

My favorite story Crusher is in Rio Rancho going up southern just west of 528. I was at a stop light on a four lane road (southern) with a police car next to me waiting for the light to change. The police car had two apparently off duty very young RR policemen in it. Off duty cause the were in street clothes. A lady came up to the light 90 degrees to us just as the light was changing. You could see going through her head the same stuff everybody thinks. Light changes at awkward time, can you stop, or do you go through, then she sees the police car, eyes go wide, slams on the brakes... The brave policemen in the car next to me exchanged gleeful glances, and the one in the passenger side rolled his window down and yelled at the poor flustered lady. That’s what police do everywhere. We just keep eating their excrement sandwiches every day. Hell my neighbors keep voting to fund more police and more police cars. Off course Rio Rancho is crawling with police with nothing to do but chew out ladies slamming on the brakes to avoid a fine. For those of you unfamiliar with the area while Albuquerque is typically a high crime area in many places, Rio Rancho just has nothing going on but a bunch of bored over funded cops with nothing to do.
I sat there and stared at the cops and shook my head. They noticed me and drove off, but not nearly sheepishly enough.

What bothers me most about speeding tickets is the fine is generally only 20-50 buck but then they tack on court cost and fees even if you do not dispute the ticket and just pay it's over 100 bucks. It's all for generating money and the worst part of it there is a monthly quota of tickets to be written and if the officers have not been keeping up then the end of the month is the most active for all law enforcement city, county, and state. I have been told that the police can only write tickets in the city and sheriffs can write tickets in the city and county and state troopers can write tickets any where in the state.

Yes indeed. I would agree with that. You know..., just like you see on TV — “Don’t try this at home.” :-)

“She said, ‘with the Internet and all the new technology, it’s almost impossible to stop the flow of information.’”

I bet the Chinese government thinks the same thing.

Yeah, the ruling political class in Iran found that out and don’t like it any more than she does.

Don't want to forget the points on license and then your insurance company comes for more ! Tack on several hundred dollars each year for 3 years on top of that. And to add insult injury, travel in a different state, you are subject to being stopped first before any of the local drivers, get a ticket and when you get home, it shows on your record with the points. Fighting a ticket in a different state is almost impossible !
