So, the DC chief (who has 290 red light cameras) is calling technology "cowardly".

I’d like to know why it’s okay for troopers to consistently break the speed limit when they’re off duty.

That is bunk. These types of motorist traps are designed to generate revenue.

"I think that's the whole point of this program," she told The Examiner. "It's designed to circumvent law enforcement -- law enforcement that is designed specifically to save lives." While I strongly disapprove of both drunk driving and reckless driving, and I don't drive after even one drink, the focus of the sobriety checkpoints and the speed traps is on revenue and not safety. If a driver is sober enough to use an iphone to get around them or cautious and alert enough to adjust speed based on those alerts, I'm okay with that.

It’s counter intuitive. When/where the intention of speed traps is to promote traffic safety - wouldn’t knowing where a speed trap is.... make one slow down?
Stating the obvious, the point of many speed traps is for municipalties to generate revenue. Too bad they don’t have the guts to say just that.

“law enforcement that is designed specifically to save lives.”
Law enforcement is not designed to save lifes. They have stated that. They are there to arrest you, fine you and fill out forms, nothing else.

Yeah, we now have red light cameras everywhere and fairly common speed traps that we all know how to avoid. But we also have a lot of cops who will turn on their lights and sirens just to get across an intersection where the light is red.
Whatever, lady. Half your little "law enforcement" tricks are strong arm, big brother tactics. And I still think speed traps are unconstitutional.

Ms. Lanier would be much more comfortable with a nice, soft leather pair of jackboots (with heels of course), maybe some epaulettes, and to top it off a nice Iron Cross. The capital of the land of freedom has the bodyguard of Joseph Mengele as its head law enforcement officer.

No, the system designed specifically to RAISE REVENUE, is what is “cowardly”.

This is cowardly but a cop hiding in the bushes with a radar gun is good solid police work

Lanier said the technology is a "cowardly tactic"And hiding behind a bridge abutment or line of shrubs with a radar gun isn't?

WHATEVER it is, right or wrong, it is NOT Cowardly! She is just a bitch trying to negatively label the users - the issue is unrelated to bravery in any sense.

Speed traps are designed to make money. Having just driven through Charlotte, NC. and Columbia, SC, two of the nation's dishonorable mention cities for speed traps, I can verify that they had an unusual number of police assigned to the radar gun over the 4 July weekend.
National Motorists Assoc. have identified some of the worst cities for speed traps, and they are on this website:
