But long before Michelle Obama was born, her great-great grandfather, Jim Robinson,

A wise Latina man, who would go on to found FreeRepublic.

OK to be confused with the legendary Jim Thompson.

For my Yankee friends that think this might be silly,

FWIW, I'm a direct decendent of the "sons of the revolution" who fought for the north.

What that means in the grand scheme of things, I really don't know...........nor do I care.

You are probably right on, remember that tribes fought each other also for territory, hunting “rights” and for slaves as well. There are no angels in mankind!

Have you read Catlin’s “Manners, customs etc., etc., (long 19th century titles!) of the North American Indians”? Worth it for the paintings alone much less his experiences. He wrote honestly and regardless, it is fascinating stuff.

You might be able to claim something but it’s going to be hard to find out which tribes can pay up.

I’m so sick of this crap. My great-great-grandfather worked in a Welsh slate mine and never saw the sun, except on Sunday. His wages were only enough to sustain the family. Which is worse?

Grant found he was going to die of throat cancer (those cigars were potent) so he spent the remainder of his life writing his autobiography ~ which is a pretty good read even now ~ a major work in fact.

This is a picture of him outside working on his book.

President Grant passed away 23rd July, 1885, a week short of 124 years ago.

He is dearly missed by all

The Iriquois freed themselves from traditional slavery (submission and tribute) under the Huron. They, themselves, practiced the same sort of thing with the Mingo ~ that is, non-Confederation Iriquois speaking people.

It was a way of life here.

Oh! Maybe rape, beatings, your children and mate being sold to another ‘captor’ hundreds of miles away.

Please keep your ignorance to yourself.

Thousands of blacks were slave owners. Do their g. g. g. grandchildren get reparations?

You are right about the Welfare for 40 years now. That is more than enough in reparations in my opinion.

Now because of the "Great Society", it is going on 4 generations of welfare recipients and they are multiplying by the thousands every year, where does the reparations end. Do they want to pay those that are alive today, or will this continue to the next generation and pay them equally as well? This is nonsense.

As the Black Avenger once said (remember him?), he was so very happy his relatives were slaves, because he is in America now. I just wish they could all be grateful to live in the best country anywhere, for the time being. The land of opportunity that none of them want to aspire to.

‘You are right about the Welfare for 40 years now. That is more than enough in reparations in my opinion. ‘

Do you mean that ‘only’ former slaves have received welfare for the last 40 years? The majority of slave descendants have never seen the inside of a welfare office.

You mention ‘the land of opportunity that none of them want to aspire to’ Who do you refer to as ‘them’. Many Freepers here (descendants of slaves) resent being referred to as ‘them’ other people.
