Surgeon General Pick's Stance on Abortion May Clash With Church's
Washington Post ^ | 7/18/09 | Cheryl W. Thompson

Regina M. Benjamin grew up in the Roman Catholic Church and attended a Catholic elementary school in her home town of Daphne, Ala., nestled along the Gulf Coast. Benjamin, President Obama's pick to be surgeon general, attends Mass regularly and has received an award from Pope Benedict XVI and another inspired by Mother Teresa. But the Alabama country doctor also backs Obama's position on reproductive health issues, a position that potentially could put her at odds with the Catholic Church.

Weasel Words!

I'm not a Catholic, however, even I know that it is not "potentially" at odds with the Catholic Church, it is most definitately at odds with the Catholic Church.

The media is our enemy.

"I don't see why the surgeon general has to get involved in a discussion about abortion."

Maybe a "medical procedure" that kills more than a million Americans every year would be a health concern?

HUH?
Supporting the murder of the most innocent could POTENTIALLY put her at odds with the Catholic Church?
Who knew...

For some reason I took it this woman was a "root worker" that folks called "doctor", not that she actually was a doctor.

Now that I see she gets awards from Roman Catholic groups I will have to change my mind about her.

I think its time for a gay, abortionist, eugenicist, euthanizing, transvestite, transgendered church to pick up the flotsam and jetsam that has been vomited up on the shores of our 2000 year old religious ocean. Clearly they have a set of beliefs vastly different from fundamental Christianity because they no longer consider the following taboo, (they celebrate it): killing infants, the elderly, the retarded, allow humans to change sex, men marrying men, removal of all sexual rules, teaching children gay sex, etc.

Once they create this “psycho” church, then we no longer have to witness their sacrilegious atrocities that defile our faith. They will no long attack our churches. They can have their own ceremonies, with women priests and flying monkeys, and upside down crosses and talking backwards, and other Black Mass elements. It would be huge in San Francisco, they could have Nude Bingo Night.

Isn’t it interesting the number of Catholics That One has chosen for his administration? The fact that they’re ALL pro-abortion just confirms my belief that he wants to divide Catholics so as to destroy the Church’s influence in this country. That’s the only way he thinks he’ll be able to get his policies passed without too much effort on his part.

Depends on which 'Catholic' group it is.

Did the Pope give her an award? I don’t remember reading anything about that in the story.

Oops! My bad, just saw that line, but I didn’t see any explanation for it. Did she get a Papal Blessing Certificate? I believe one of those can be ordered for anyone.

Give the Washington Post credit for avoiding referring to Benjamin as a “Catholic” at this time, and for at least implying that she may no longer be one, no matter how often she visits a Catholic Church. This is more that we have gotten from publications like this in the past. I call it progress.

BTW, is there a typo in your screen name?

I always thought it referred to Southern Connecticut. It seemed a little pointless to be dividing up a state that takes an hour to drive through. Down I see that you’re from the land of Schwarzenegger.

No, it was just my attempt at stating I was a social conservative Republican.

Picking a name can be real difficult

In all Actuality though, I consider myself a fiscal, social, small government, and strong military conservative or in short, a Reagan conservative.
