Obama no longer stressing August deadline for passing health reform bill
Politico ^ | 7/19/09 | JONATHAN MARTIN

In his most recent remarks, President Obama has stopped mentioning what had been his mantra — that the House and Senate finish their health-care bills by the August recess — and switched to a less specific call to fast action.

The increased flexibility follows resistance by key senators in both parties to what they have called an "artificial deadline."

A White House aide said the president isn't letting up.

"No change in the timeline," said the aide

If we’re lucky, there won’t be a vote till the bums come back from summer vacation. Maybe by then, we can persuade them to abandon this krap.

The truth is he ticked them off breathing down their necks and they told him to back the heck off... he knows he needs Snowe and she was balking...... we have to hold this off until August vacations and then tea party the heck out of our representatives — who I bet all head to Europe to get away from the heat — voter-led heat.

Back in March, this was a guaranteed thing. They would have been done on time...with no one doubting that. Now? With most of the plan in the open...the taxes laid out....and the 1000 pages which will likely never be read....I think there isn’t quiet the same amount of enthusiasm. I’m doubting it will be done this year...and if it’s allowed to simmer in public view for three months...some folks will read the entire document.

I'm hoping Obama turns out even less popular than Carter. O-blah-ma will always have his brain dead drones, of course, but I hope he'll soon be unpopular enough that he'll be disowned by his own party. There are already signs of dissension in the Democrat ranks, and politicians are generally very good at sensing the mood and following it. It's what they do.

I’ll bet it happens on MSNBC. They all play with their balls over there. Some times they even share.

Which may account for the slowdown. Congressmen heard an earful from their constituents when they didn’t read the last few bills (stimulus, bailouts, etc.) before voting on them. They can sense that if they don’t take their time over this, the citizenry will become angry, and they, Congress, will lose their jobs.

I know next to nothing about O’s healthcare plan. All I can be certain of is that it stinks just like Cap and Trade because it came from his adminstration.

One thing is for sure, we do need some kind of reform. IMHO, however, it all has to do with medicare, and state funded programs like MediCal. That is where the government needs to streamline and seek savings. Clean up the existing wastful programs, and there would be more than enough to cover the “legitimate” uninsured.

I say legitimate, because the 46 million “uninsured” number that is bantered about is a lie. Many are illegals, many are simply not willing to pay a healthcare premium even if they can afford it. If we filtered all of this down to those rare souls who litterally cannot provide for themselves, it would be a handful, figuratively speaking. Also, we’d probably find that there is an existing program for the legitimate ones, but they are either too dumb or do not have the mental capcity to ask for it.

No, it all comes down to control. Control over vast numbers of the electorate. Obama’s plan is yet another vote buying scheme using our tax dollars. If you don’t vote his way, he’ll target your particular group for punishment, in the same manner that his administration has leveled stimulus withholding threats against Arizona because of Sen Kyle’s defiance to this adminsitration’s spending frenzy.

It would be best if AZ could just tell Washington D.C to shove thier stupid stimulus money. We’d all be cleaner as a result.

The momentum has tipped our way slightly, we must keep the pressure on.

I believe the Repubs went easy on Sotomayor partly because they know the real battle is government takeover of health care.

Medicare Advantage and Medicare Part D drug plans are private insurance plans, but regulated by the Center for Medicare and Medicaid services.

The Commission I receive, for a Medicare Advantage plan, was cut from $500 to $400, even against insurance companies objections.

Then, that cut was made retroactive to 15 November 2009.

Then, the definition of “renewal” was changed.

That cut most of our commissions, on Medicare Advantage plans, for $400 to $200.

This change was also made retroactive, back to the 15 November 2009 enrollment date for the 2009 plan year.

I know agents who are in the red, on their commission runs, by over $10,000.00.

There are appeals pending, and CMS claims that they are trying to respond to concerns about “first year” vs “renewal” definitions -—

But, the fact remains that the vast majority of insurance agents are conservative Republicans, and Obama has done every thing he can think of to try and get the “senior markets” agents mad at insurance companies and not him.

Most of us are smarter than that.

Most of us realize that Obama was behind these cuts and that Obama is trying to drive us “enemies of the state” out of business, and he is trying to dry up part of the financial opposition to his plans.

Dr. Josef Mengele (16 March 1911 – 7 February 1979) was a German SS officer and a physician in the Nazi concentration camp Auschwitz-Birkenau. He held two earned doctorates, one in anthropology from Munich University and one in medicine from Frankfurt University. He gained notoriety for being one of the SS physicians who supervised the selection of arriving transports of prisoners, determining who was to be killed and who was to become a forced laborer, and for performing human experiments on camp inmates, amongst whom Mengele was known as the Angel of Death.

"politicians are generally very good at sensing the mood and following it. It's what they do."

The peanut farmer's inflation gave us Reagan and the Senate.

But Klintoon's socialized medicine gave us the House for the first time in 40 years and the Senate.

The Democrats know this.

At the recess, the pols are going to be inundated with personal constituent animosity over this Socialized Medicine. And they face losing the House and the power of the purse in 2010.

We’ve seen this act a couple of times now, most recently with Cap and Trade. He stops talking about a deadline, but keeps pushing one behind the scenes. It’s a tactic to keep the opposition from timing their response.

Don’t worry. They’ll be back even if this particular bill gets canned.

Watch for the incremental take-away. Drip, drip, drip. Our job is to keep them from voting on any bill at any time, ever. The lot of them need to go now. Hammer away, never let up, and maybe the tidal wave of fascism can be lessened.

The only true solution in the long run is allowing lawmakers only 2 months in Washington a year. The rest of the time they should be back in their communities and living under the condescending tyranny, they are so willing to have us live under. (I know, but I can dream can’t I?)

This administration, Democrat minions and RINOs are determined to get what they want. Unfortunately, it’s so easily done with a majority of the population incapable of critical thought and generations of trained up Marxist government policy-makers and little worker bees.

I think Sotomayor is unqualified for the SCOTUS because of her judicial philosophy. She was smart (or canny) enough to avoid any major misstep in her confirmation hearings, but I do not think she is particularly intelligent or persuasive. I think we may have dodged a bullet in a way because I do not think her judicial arguments will win many converts on the court. I think that John Roberts has been able to do that and has been able to be a consensus builder so that Kennedy has voted with him more often than not. I think she will be a place-holder, much like Souter was, without much to distinguish her tenure on the court.

AARP unfortunately is a left wing organization full of Obama true believers. I used to belong to that organization for a few years, but I left because of that constant entitlement mentality, among other things. Besides, their benefits (e.g. travel) were not all that great; often with travel you can get a better deal on your own.

<>p> I beg to differ politely. Souter was actually a close friend of Kennedy's who had Kennedy's respect. Thus, he was able to exert substantial, quiet influence on Kennedy, possibly moving Kennedy farther to the left than otherwise would have happened. Sotomayor, from all we have seen of her is a not very articulate, not very smart AA judge who can be quite personally abrasive; indeed, one who might well antagonize Kennedy. In Ricci she didn't even analyze he case he way all the justices did, although the justices came to different conclusions. Hence, I think she might be the least destructive pick the Illegal Alien could have made because she might well push Kennedy to the right.

I saw some commercial talking about how we need government healthcare — where are the counterpoint commercials? This is so easy, the “prioritization of care” thing is incredibly scary. Just have a video of a wife asking for her husband (in a hospital bed) to receive treatment and being told that there is nothing more that the hospital WILL do. Not could do, but will do.

That is what I was trying to say when I said that we may have “dodged a bullet” with this pick. She is not likely to be able to convince any of the conservative-leaning judges through the strength of her arguments. I did not know that Souter was particularly effective because he seemed to be such a “milquetoast” so I appreciate that little tidbit of information.

Those commercials are out there. One in particular I know has a Canadian woman who tells a horror tale of being diagnosed with a brain tumor. Had she not come to the States to get treatment, she would be dead by now.

My only complaint about those commercials is that they are not run often enough.
