The senator said healthcare would be Obama's 'Waterloo' if Obama lost, it would break him. Now, Obama is using the comment as an example of crass Beltway obstructionism.
Washington - If were able to stop Obama on this, it will be his Waterloo. It will break him.
When Jim DeMint uttered those words late last week, he did the president a favor.
In one memorable line, the Republican senator from South Carolina turned the healthcare debate into a personal battle against President Obama. Suddenly, Mr. Obama has a foil. The Party of No the Democrats name for Republicans trying to block reform now has a face, and its Senator DeMint.
Both Monday and Tuesday, Obama has riffed on DeMints comments, turning the debate into an argument about opponents of reform.
On Monday, Obama said, This isnt about me. This isnt about politics. This is about a healthcare system that is breaking Americas families, breaking Americas businesses, and breaking Americas economy.
On Tuesday, he kept going: I know that there are those in this town who openly declare their intention to block reform. Its a familiar Washington script that weve seen many times before.

Yeah, like Rush did him a favor. Hey, Obama, how’d that attack on Rush work for you?

"This isn't about me."
What ? Democrats own both houses of Congress by a majority.
But hey, If Obama wants to give credit to Republicans and take visibility away from Any and All Democrats.....Thats really good, I like it.
Americans are smarter than a 5th grader, and Obama is the 5th grader in charge.
I’m always suspicious of articles written by women with hyphenated names.
With a name like Wanker, what do you expect?
“The Party of No”
Oh HELL YEA we are the party of No! That is a badge of HONOR and one I am PROUD to wear. No Socialism, No National health care, No Government entitlements, No Illegal Aliens... lets see, what else. No Pay raises for Congress critters, No Obama, ...what else... No to more gun control laws, No to taking over the stats Water rights, no to Government take over of the Organic foods markets,. What did I Forget? Oh yea, NO TO FEDERALISM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
LOL! Me too.
That said, I fail to see how the reporter could interpret it this way. Obviously, she doesn’t realize how many of us would love to break Obama.
Panel on Fox basically said is has always been about obama regardless. hopefully they get nothing before august break.
it doesn’t matter what demint said.
They are absolutely living in a fantasy world (big duh) if they think that somehow, the American people are going to say ‘yeah!! this bill is GREAT and the republicans are ruining everything by saying no!! I love this bill now!!’
This “foil” will fall flatter n’ hell on obama.
But it gave Obama a tangible point to say that Republicans are resisting because they want him to fail.
I agree with DeMint but it was not the greatest comment. It makes Obama look like a victim.
My dad call those “dash women”.
Democrats have a filibuster proof majority in the Senate and over 255 vote majority in the House. Obama and his democrat can pass any bill they want even if every single Republican votes against it. As I said before this victimhood crap is not going to sell anymore with a majority of Americans.
Yet, Obama says he wants a bi-partisan bill. He’s not going to get it so he’ll sell 50% of the country down the river on his CRAP health care plan.
As a woman, I feel the same way.
I also like her logic, if we go along quietly, we lose. If we resist him, we are just doing Obama a “favor”. Interesting,,
It’s about Obama and it’s about deathcare.
BWAAHAHAHAHA! They have the majority to pass this. The GOP can’t obstruct anything.
This isn’t passing cuz the American people are pissed and the internal polls show that.
Doesn’t matter if he tries to make it personal. people still don’t like the details coming out of this train wreck healthcare bill. I also think that part of his ratings freefall is , people are starting to not like Obama the man , not just his socialism.
I think DeMint is baiting him.
If you’ve seen the movie ‘300’, there’s an apt line in there about Xerxes - his hubris makes him easily taunted and baited.
No different here.
As 0bama’s polling numbers continue to tank, I would think no one did him any favors.
It was a dumb thing for DeMint to say.
It can only serve to rally Democrats behind Obamunism on a party-line basis.
Exactly correct.
Telling the truth now days in the Republican camp is a dumb thing to do? I don’t think so. The reason the Republicans got their ass handed to them the last election is because they were afraid to speak anything other than politically correct statements.
I was amazed to see NBC News tonight use the terms “bully pulpit” “angle” and “populist rhetoric” when describing Bambi’s attempts to get ObamaCare done. They stopped short of calling him a snake oil salesman - either hell has frozen over, or somebody slipped something into Chuck Todd’s food. I was encouraged, at least for a few seconds.
“Telling the truth now days in the Republican camp is a dumb thing to do?”
What Demint did is tell the Democratic majority Congress that if Obama loses on health care he is finished on everything. How exactly does that help us win? It’s just like taunting the opposing sports team on the eve of the big game. Sorry, but DeMint said something stupid.
There’s a reason that Vito Corleone told Sonny:
“Never let anyone outside the family know what you are thinking.”
I like the graphic, but if I could do Photoshop I would make it one of those tiny pinkie bandages (not nearly) covering a huge scrape...
In one way I can understand the comparison. Looking at it another way - Napoleon was a great leader.....Obama doesn't even come close.
Napoleon sucked, too. And he was in a tailspin way before Waterloo; his army was never the same after the Russian adventure.
