Israel Slams Clinton Statement On Nuclear Iran
Haaretz ^ | July 22, 2009 | By Barak Ravid

A key minister in the Israeli government criticized U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton's statement on Tuesday that Washington would provide "a defense umbrella" for its allies in the Middle East in the event that Iran develops nuclear weapons.

Dan Meridor, Israel's minister for secret services, told Army Radio that the comments imply a willingness to reconcile with the eventuality of a nuclear-armed Iran.

"I heard, unenthusiastically, the Americans statement that they will defend their allies in the event that Iran arms itself with an atomic bomb, as if they have already reconciled with this possibility, and this is a mistake," Meridor told Army Radio. "Now, we don't need to deal with the assumption that Iran will attain nuclear weapons but to prevent this."

Of course it does. Clinton's statement are not only a material change from current US policy towards a nuclear Iran, they are disastrous in the weakness they project.

This is a huge deal. Much bigger than people realize. The US is now willing to accept a nuclear Iran. Let me say that again so it sinks in. The US is now willing to accept a nuclear Iran.

What good is an “umbrella” if Hamas and Hizbollah have been given nukes to sneak into Israel with?

Since hussein is dismantling our missle defense, what will he use to defend them against incoming nukes? Patriots? Phalanx? Skysweepers? Quad .50’s?

Clinton said on Tuesday that the U.S. has a plan to prevent Iranian domination in the Middle East if it gets the nuclear bomb.

Not exactly confidence-inspiring, to understate the matter. Israel has her own "defense umbrella" -- hundreds of hydrogen bombs, a second-to-none intelligence service, and a first-rate Air Force. ....and the willingness to use all her assets in the defense of the homeland.

It appears the Obama admin. has accepted the inevitability of a nuclear Iran, and is doing whatever it can to convince Israel to accept it as well. Not going to happen.

The real “umbrella” being supplied is to Iran to continue their nuclear plans. Zero is trying to tie Israeli’s hands and the W.Bank construction is just a demo of his strength.
I can’t believe that S.Arabia and Kuwait etc will be comfortable with this policy.

It's just getting uglier and uglier.

Does Hillary realize that Israel is the size of New Jersey?

If Iran nuked Israel, all there would be is a collective sigh from the Obama adminstration. After a half-hearted (and unsuccessful) attempt to have the agression condemned at the UN, it would redouble its efforts to reach out and appease Iran. There would also be hand-wringing on the Left about our failure to properly engage Iran.

The only consolation here is that Israel would probably reduce Iran to a charred cinder as it died.

That is a wonderful statement...

Frankly, I think the Anti president - Barry- is far more encouraging to the Islamic state and would do nothing to defend our or our allies interests. It would be different if he were an American...culturally.

Stern language should do the trick.

How can we provide missile defense, when Obama and the RAT congress cut funding for the systems?

What is Israel's problem? Don't they trust that an Obama speech is the best defense for incoming nukes? He would even give it in prime time so as to make it that much more potent.
