Liberalism Thrives on Deception. Liberals have to hide who they are, especially in national elections. Obama knows this. That's why he wasn't honest about his plans for America.

Obama Press Conference: Listless, Lifeless, Lying -- and Very Valuable
The entire landmark first hour on what was exposed through the president's prime-time press conference.
July 23, 2009

BEGIN TRANSCRIPT

RUSH: Well, I guess we learned last night that President Obama did listen to Reverend Wright those 20 years.  The only time he acted interested in being there was the last question of the night when he got to talk about race and profiling.  That's when Barack Obama came alive last night.  Greetings, my friends.  Here is the phone number. I, of course am Rush Limbaugh with talent on loan from God.  Brian, did you guys mess with the Dittocam today?  Did you take that out?  Well, no, no, it's fine, but the zoom is all off, I mean it's like the camera is closer, far, whatever.

I did an interview this morning with Greta Van Susteren.  It went for an hour, and we're right here in the studio.  It's going to air in two parts tonight and tomorrow and I understand they're already promo'ing as "Rush Unleashed." (interruption) Yeah, well, I never do.  I've told you this before.  When I finish a TV interview, I never think it's good.  So we'll just have to wait and see.  When am I ever leashed? That's a good point.  But yeah, it was fun.  It went on and on and on, and she might have asked me three questions.  I pretended that I was doing an Obama press conference.  And, you know, his first answer last night was ten minutes.  I clocked it; I predicted it; it was ten minutes.  He filibustered.  We'll talk about this in great detail, but I'm telling you when he got that question at the end of the press conference on what happened to the Harvard professor, whew, came alive.  Got animated, got passionate, and then said some really dumb things.  After admitting he didn't know all the facts, after admitting that he's biased because he knows the professor, he then called the Cambridge police stupid!  Cambridge is a bunch of liberals, liberal mayor, a liberal professor, liberal college, liberal cops.  How can there be such racism?  I mean the idyllic, quaint liberal setting, how can there be such racism?

He couldn't wait to talk about profiling.  He couldn't wait to talk about the plight of the black man after admitting he didn't know what even went on in there, he didn't have all the details.  Presidents of the United States do not descend to discussing such incidents, local police arrest charges filed and then dropped.  We, ladies and gentlemen, are in the middle of a major offensive in Afghanistan.  We are in the middle of our economy being destroyed purposely, and I made that point with Greta tonight, numerous times.  I did not hold back.  I did not hold back.  And she asked about the "fail" business again.  I said, "Too late, I tried to stop it, but he's already failed."  Do you think the stimulus is working?  Are there any jobs being created?  What's Obama done for anybody?  "I know, I know, but I hope that it will eventually work."  It can't work, this is my point, Greta, it can't work, it's not designed to work the way you think it's working.  It's designed to work the way it is working, it's designed to kill jobs, have people lose their health insurance so they start clamoring for his signature program.  I was on fire, folks.  I was on fire out there.

I haven't found one positive review.  I haven't read the liberal blogs, but I haven't found one positive review of the press conference.  Even the New York Times has a fact-check story today that is devastating to Obama.  The Politico last night filed a story excoriating the lame White House press corps for absurd, pointless questions.  Howard Fineman excoriates the White House press corps today for much the same reason.  I can't find one positive review of this press conference among Obama supporters, not even on MSNBC.  I can't find one.  Now, as I said, didn't look at the blogs.  All of the people friendly to Obama are saying, "Why did he do this?  He didn't give us anything new; he didn't sell anything; he didn't give us any heartwarming story. It was a total waste of time."  It was not a waste of time.  We learned more about Barack Obama in that press conference last night than anything else he has ever said.  That was a series of teachable moments last night.  I hope he has a press conference like this every week.  He was rambling.  He was incoherent; he was listless; he was lifeless; it was laborious; it was professorial; it was chock-full of some of the most blatant lies a president has told the country or the press corps, and he was not called on one of them.

State-Run Media did not pull any information from him.  They were disgraceful lapdogs.  I said yesterday that they have met their Waterloo and it's Obama.  They have given up their integrity, they have given up their professionalism, they have given up whatever the sterling qualities of journalism are, they have abandoned them in exchange for being stenographers for Rahm Emanuel and propagandists for the Obama administration.  Anybody saying that press conference was a waste of time is either emotionally invested in Obama or misses the point.  We found out last night so many things.  We find out just how fired up about race he remains.  I don't know if you're a doctor, pediatrician, we also learned last night that Barack Obama thinks that you purposely, unnecessarily take out kids' tonsils to line your pockets.  He gave a specific example.  Your kid, your child, sore throat, repeated sore throat, you go to the pediatrician, you go to the doctor, and the doctor says, "Well, it could be allergies, it could be this, it could be that," and then he looks at the fee reimbursement schedule and he sees there's a lot of money in a tonsillectomy, predatory tonsillectomy.

So he takes the tonsils out when it may not be necessary.  We're going to tighten down on this. We're going to make it more efficient. If the tonsils don't need to come out we're not going to have the tonsils come out.  Now, pediatricians for the most part are not the surgeons.  If a pediatrician says a kid needs the tonsils out, go to hospital, the surgeon does it.  So what's going to happen, the pediatrician is going to get a kickback from the surgeon?  Do you realize, folks, to sit there and accuse doctors?  Look, I'm sure doctors do a lot of unnecessary stuff, but they're not doing it to line their pockets, they're doing it to protect themselves against tort lawsuits. (interruption) How am I confusing you?  No, he did not say the government wasn't going to be involved.  Whatever he said last night, none of it was true, none of it.  He said he's a deficit reducer.  He said our economy is growing.  We're back from the brink.  He said he's cut deficit spending.  He doesn't like government.  And none of it was true, Snerdley.  It was blatant.  It was breathtaking to watch this.  It was so eye-opening.

Not one question about the CBO numbers. Not one question about any of the independent analysis of the plan that refutes everything he said.  And he offered nothing new, he gave no details, and there's a reason for this.  His buddies in the press are upset he didn't give any details.  There are stories, the Democrats in the House are upset he's not giving any details.  He's not telling us what he wants.  That's strategic 'cause it isn't about health care.  It's not about health care.  It's not about health insurance.  Oh!  And strange as it could be.  We started talking about health insurance reform yesterday, and all of a sudden here comes the term last night, "health insurance reform."  Now, most people think this is all about their health care.  It ain't, folks, because you can't insure your health.  This is about health insurance.  After insulting doctors -- I'm telling you, this is big.  This went by a lot of the immediate analysis last night because there are people studying and looking at other things.  But he accused doctors of performing unnecessary organ removal for money.

Now, you talk to any doctor, there's no money in Medicare reimbursement, Medicaid reimbursement anyway, but doctors, they do do a lot of unnecessary things, like all these tests, which Obama said we're not going to do anymore, we're not going to have these tests, we're gonna make it more efficient.  You know why they do all those tests?  So they don't get sued into bankruptcy by Democrat tort lawyers accusing them of malpractice or misdiagnosis of something.  That's why they do a lot of unnecessary things.  You want to cut a lot of money out of the health care problem just have serious health care tort reform.  He kept talking about we spend $6,000 more per person than other advanced countries on health care.  He's gonna lower that number by making sure there aren't any unnecessary tonsillectomies and unnecessary tests and maybe take the red pill instead of the blue pill.

Ladies and gentlemen, we have the best medical health care in the world.  No one leaves this country, no one takes their children out of this country for health care.  Everywhere else around the world they come here.  Now, the best costs things.  Barack Obama has spent more than $6,000 per person by a factor of a gazillion on his stimulus package.  He wants to talk about waste and fraud in health care. We haven't seen anything 'til he gets his mitts on it.  There was one other thing that he did that I really was questioning, "Did he mean to do this?  I know he thinks it but did he mean to say this?"  After he started accusing doctors of doing unnecessary organ removals for money, he then started ragging on the insurance companies, started beating them up, "Have you seen their profits lately, have you seen their profits?  That's not right, this economy, profits too high.  I will squeeze those profits."  He admitted that he's going to go after private insurance company profits.

Well, folks, that was a tantamount admission that you are not going to have private insurance options because if he goes after and succeeds in killing their profit, there's no way they can stay in business.  Profit is the incentive.  Pediatricians largely become pediatricians because they've got a thing for kids, they like kids.  They don't go into it to do unnecessary organ removal operations.  This guy has such a resentment for success and for achievers.  But he admits he's gonna go after the profit of the private insurance companies.  That's none of his damn business.  He's gonna regulate, they're going to have to provide coverage for preexisting conditions, they're going to have to insure you even if you're a day away from dying.  He's going to kill 'em off and therefore the public option will be the only option, which, anybody that's looked at the plan in the House knows that that's the plan anyway.  And he's up there lying through his teeth about that last night, all day yesterday, every day this week that he's spoken about it.

So this press conference was hardly a waste of time.  It was far from a waste of time.  This was valuable.  I don't think a lot of people watched it 'cause it was tough sledding.  It was laborious. As I say, it was not inspiring, it was not motivating; it was not good salesmanship.  But for the inside-the-Beltway DC types that dig somebody that sounds smart and informed and educated on the issues, I'm sure it was a home run.  But there was no new information here to counter any of the charges against the program.  Now, there's a reason why there are no details.  There's a reason, and the reason is strategic.  It's not just that it isn't about health care.  It's about regulating human behavior in every aspect of life.  That's what they're seeking here.  But there's another aspect that's strategic.  Remember Tom Daschle was the first guy that was going to head up this plan until they found he hadn't paid his taxes.  Daschle's advice, I'll give you greater details, forget the details, the reason the Clintons failed is they got too detailed, detailed -- just stick with the broad themes, we're going to get killed if we go into details.

Well, Obama's aborting details, specific details to the point he won't refute charges that are specific about what his plan contains.  Meanwhile the House Democrats, "We need to know more of what he wants here.  We're flying on our own here," and they don't like it.  They want this to be a communal effort.  But he's not going to give details 'cause it ain't about details.  He thinks the details will kill it.  And he's right.  Fifty-three percent disapprove of the plan.  More and more people who find out what's in it want no part of it.  You've heard this number 47 million uninsured?  Of course now they can say, what, 56 million uninsured with all these job losses?  That's another reason for having unemployment to raise the number of people that don't have insurance. We're compassionate people.  But do you realize that 90% of the American people have health coverage?  Doesn't that sorta put that 47 million figure in a different perspective when you point out 90% of the country has health insurance, in the country with the best health care in the world?

BREAK TRANSCRIPT

RUSH:  Okay, last week we saw white firefighters under assault by agents of Barack Obama and Sonia Sotomayor. I'm talking about Frank Ricci and the boys from New Haven.  They were under assault during the Sotomayor confirmation hearings.  You remember that. Groups went out there trying to destroy these guys.  Now white policemen are under assault from the East Room of the White House by the president of the United States, after admitting he didn't know all the facts of what went on in there.  But the cops acted stupidly.  Even Gates admitted that the cop probably voted for Obama.  You got Harvard, you got Cambridge here.  Well, I haven't seen this much racism in a liberal enclave since the Duke lacrosse case.  Here you have the idyllic perfect liberal setting: nothing but elites and future elites at the university, the citadel of ideas, and all this racism is going on!

Henry Louis Gates is thought of as a criminal because he is black and breaking into his own house.  You know what? If I'm Henry Louis Gates, I'm thanking my neighbor for looking out for me.  The neighbor called the cops. She thought somebody was getting in. She didn't know who -- the neighbor, I don't know if it's a he or she.  Now, the cops show up, Gates proves that he's the owner of the house, and yet they arrest him.  Now, something went on in there that we don't know about.  Something had to go on in there that we don't know about -- and Obama clearly doesn't know what went on.  So racial matters.  And of course with president of the United States going on and on and on about profiling, and how we gotta work on that. We need a federal program on profiling. We're going to be working on it. I'm telling you, that's the only time last night he was jazzed.

The only time last night he was fired up and on fire, passionate and so forth is when that question came.  He also kept saying last night about health care, "This is not personal to me.  It's not personal." Well, you know something, folks, it is personal to me.  The president says his proposal's not about him.  Well, it is about me, and it's about you and tens of millions of people like you, who are going to be forced into more expensive private insurance options or onto a public plan or fined for not having insurance.  You don't get fined for not having insurance if you don't own a car.  You're going to get fined here.  I think it is pretty damn personal what they're doing.  The problem is that Obama and the Democrats failed to make it personal.  They're making it ideological and they're relying on Obama's image and cult-like appeal to sell this, and those days are over on this, 'cause nothing he's doing is working. Nothing he's doing for anybody is helping anybody.  It's not about him?  Well, it's personal for a whole lot of us.

BREAK TRANSCRIPT

RUSH:  You know, folks, as I listened to President Obama last night throwing around completely made-up numbers, completely fabricated projections... He was telling us he's a deficit reducer, that he doesn't like big-government spending and we're going to fix all these problems by reforming health care -- and that he's creating jobs.  He said he's creating jobs!  We got more unexpected job losses reported this morning.  But we come back from the brink, from the economy.  So I'm listening to him throw these completely fabricated numbers and projections all over the place last night. The CBO, the Congressional Budget Office -- run by Democrats -- skewers everything when he puts these numbers out, and do you know what else? The CBO, theoretically it's independent.  The CBO, the Congressional Budget Office, reports to Congress.  Guess who Obama summoned to the White House this week?  The head honcho of the CBO.  That's not cool.

Now, the CBO's got these numbers that show everything Obama is saying is not true.  They're saying, "In the first year the deficit will have $240 billion added to it," and that's probably low.  So Obama calls the guy up there, you think just to have hundred-dollar Kobe beef or did he and Rahm Emanuel got in the guy's face and said, "What are you doing to us?"  These are authoritarians.  Anyways, I'm watching this and I'm listening to all these lies (and that's what they were) tossed around, and I decided since he can't count on the CBO... Well, we'll see but it doesn't look like he can control 'em. He needs to create a new agency that will counter the CBO, he needs to come up with his own version of the CBO, a White House agency that will analyze congressional budgets and legislation and produce a result that Obama wants -- and I have the name for this new agency.

The Office of Imaginary Information: O.I.I.  The Office of Imaginary Information.  He can cite whatever that O.I.I. group puts out to back up all of his statistics and claims.  The Office of Imaginary Information.  That's what the Oval Office has already become.  He may as well just set up his own agency to counter the CBO, they'll call it O.I.I., and they'll report whatever he wants to discredit the CBO.  The Office of Imaginary Information.  O.I.I.  Now, this detail business.  I want to explain something to you.  When he was still president-elect (you gotta remember this) I personally warned you people what was coming with health care reform, 'cause we've been there once.  Obama's point man then on health issues was the Puffster, the former Senate majority leader and soon to be discovered tax cheat, Tom Daschle.  In December... I told you, we could go back and get the tape if we wanted to, but in December I told you the strategery that Daschle advised Obama to implement.

Daschle was convinced that the reason Clinton blew it was because it was too detailed. It took too long to debate it in Congress.  He urged Obama to go on offense immediately while he had postelection goodwill.  But the big key to a successful government takeover of health care was keeping you in the dark, and that's why "no details" was part of the strategery.  Daschle actually said: "Details kill.  If we get too far into the weeds, if we produce a 1,500- or 1,600-page bill, we're going to get hung up on all the details and we're never going to get to the principles.'" Finally, Daschle said, "Once Congress does take up a health plan, it also can't divert attention to other subjects, he said. 'Let's not put it down, let it lie there for months and months and figure out a time when we can get back to it later,' Daschle said..." He wanted to lead with it.  They led with the Porkulus.

Anyway, there you have the Obama health care playbook and we see it being implemented.  Ram it through, few details, demand that Congress act quickly with no breaks. The only thing Obama didn't plan for was being "caught in the weeds," and he got caught in the weeds, as Daschle predicted, when you learn the details of what is in this bill.  It's not good for Obama to go into detail? How about a political party that wants to propose taking over one-sixth of the US economy -- a president and a political party that want to take over that much of the economy -- and no details?  You want to run for reelection on that?  You want to run for reelection?  "Yeah, we're going to come to this big plan. We're not going to tell you anything! We're just going to deal with the big principles."

Well, Daschle, Obama, all these guys know this is not about health care.  It is really not even about health insurance.  What it's about is having a legal means, without having to change the Constitution, to get around the Bill of Rights.  Remember Obama believes that the Bill of Rights is a set of "negative rights."  This is a concept that's being taught in law schools and has been for a lot of years.  Negative rights. They look at the Constitution, people who believe in negative rights, as obstacle.  The Bill of Rights says what Congress can't do to you -- and statists, authoritarians like Obama look at that, that's a negative. "You mean I gotta deal with these ten things as president in the Bill of Rights, and they say I can't do this? The government can't do this and that and that and whatever?"

Yeah.  So what Obama wants is things in the Constitution that say what the government can do, either for you or to you, which totally bastardizes the founding of this country. It turns the Constitution upside down and renders it irrelevant.  Now, Obama knows that he cannot amend the Constitution to come up with ten new amendments that allow him to do to us or for us.  But, there is a way to get around all that, and it's really simple, compared to amending the Constitution.  You take over one-sixth of the US economy, the entire health care business.  You have no idea how to run it. You have no idea how to fix it. You have no idea, but still you take it over, and the reason you take it over is because then you get your positive rights.

The government can then dictate and regulate every aspect of your behavior, because whatever your behavior is is going to have ramifications on your health.  This is not about health care. It's not about the details of the plan.  That's why Obama, I don't think he even really cares.  All he did last night was lie.  "Oh, yeah, you get to keep your own plan! Oh, if you like it, no, nothing's gonna change -- and, by the way, you're not even going to pay for it! Just a couple millionaires are. We're going to soak a couple millionaires again who are already paying 47% of the total income tax burden," and you know what this is going to lead to?  This is going to lead to fewer people investing, fewer people making economic growth possible. And I refuse to believe that this is not being done on purpose.  I know the purpose of health care. I know it is to regulate your life.  I know it is about control.

And people do not understand why there are people who want that kind of control over other people's lives.  They think of the country as the exact opposite of that: land of the free, home of the brave, and so forth.  It's hard to convince people that something else is actually being done purposefully and it's hard to convince people of the ultimate objective, especially if those people are not ideologically oriented.  If conservative and liberal don't really mean anything to them other than labels.  But if you understand who liberals are, if you understand who their brothers on the ideological spectrum are... I mean, the brothers of liberals are Nazis, communists, socialists and be and so forth.  If you understand what those people are about, if you understand what liberalism is, and then you add "radical" to the mix, then it all makes sense.  But it's a tough thing to believe.

A lot of people don't want to believe these kinds of things.  "You mean this is really not about health care, Rush?  He really wants as many people unemployed or...?" Let's put it a different way. He's not upset by it.  If he was upset about it, he'd be doing something about it.  We have the blueprint.  We know what to do.  You reduce tax burden.  You give people incentives to invest, grow, to hire people.  He's doing just the exact opposite.  Everybody involved in this knows that what we're doing is not about creating jobs and this is not about making health care better.  This is about stimulating the Democrat Party, enlarging government that they control, giving them the power to regulate your behavior.  'Cause they have contempt for you.  You're not smart enough to make the right decisions in life plus it's just what they aspire to and that's what we're up against and that's what I hoped would fail.

He has failed, but not in the way I hoped he would fail.  He failed. His policies are failing miserably to accomplish his own stated objectives.  But his stated objectives are not his real objectives.  Folks, I'm telling you... I gotta come up with an analogy to explain this.  It's almost like saying, "You can jump out of that airplane without a parachute and just hope you'll be safe when you land, and it will all work out," and then a bunch of people follow the order. They jump out of the airplane with no parachute, and they die. Let's say a hundred thousand of them die. "It doesn't matter. It will work! Just give us time, just give us time.  We didn't intend for those hundred thousand to live.  We'll push some more out of the plane and they'll live next year."  He knows what the parachute is. He's not giving it to anybody.  It's about that way.  They know that they're sending people out of airplanes with no parachutes.

BREAK TRANSCRIPT

RUSH:  Obama said last night that the health care plan is not about him, it's not personal.  The reason he's doing this is because of the letters that he reads every day in Oval Office.  Yes, the letters from beleaguered citizens who are at the precipice and they have no health insurance and, oh, how horrible.  And, you know, not one time -- I made this point with Greta Van Susteren today -- not once did he talk about the greatness of our health care system.  Not once does he talk about the greatness of this country, he doesn't talk about the greatness of our people.  He apologizes; he criticizes, he ripped the doctors and surgeons last night.  He rips insurance companies.  This guy, there's something about this country that he doesn't like and he's eager as he can be to apologize for it.  But to not talk about the greatness our system, the greatness of our care, the life expectancy raise in this country, the overall increase in health.

He sees only cheaters, liars, people that need to be punished.  So he's doing this for the letters, all these letters.  Well, if this is about letters about health care, then Obama loses.  We had the story yesterday of this Democrat liberal activist, pro-health care reform guy in Virginia sending out a clarion call warning people on his blast e-mail list, chastising talk radio, the phone calls and mails to Congress running 15 to one against the proposal.  So if we're going to do this based on the letters -- he-he -- I will guarantee you Obama loses big time.

This is Karen in Howell, Michigan.  Karen, great to have you on the EIB Network.  Hello.

CALLER:  Hi, Rush.  It's a pleasure to talk with you.

RUSH:  Thank you.

CALLER:  You know, I listened last night to President Obama, and I have been a nurse for over 20 years, and there might be maybe 1% of doctors who order tests, especially that kids don't need.  But for somebody to say they're just going to take tonsils out just like that, I don't think so.  Doctors just don't do that kind of stuff.  They need all the tests that they run to make the proper diagnoses.

RUSH:  Let's be very specific about this.  See, you're actually in medicine, you are a registered nurse, right?

CALLER:  Right.

RUSH:  All right, so you hear this, and you react to it, "Well, no, maybe 1%, but no." I want to tell you what he was trying to do with that comment.  For the president of the United States to accuse pediatricians of looking at a fee reimbursement chart and seeing that a tonsillectomy pays them more than anything else and thus choosing the tonsillectomy, do you realize the impugning of their integrity, the impugning of their character?  This man last night was trying to gin up hatred for doctors.  He was essentially calling them criminals, performing unnecessary organ removal for profit.  I found it beneath contempt.  I found it outrageous.  This is not presidential.  And it was shortly after that that he then lit into the insurance companies. (doing Obama impression) "Have you seen their profit?  In this economy?  Have you seen their profit?"  None of his damn business.  Remember during one of the debates during the campaign he talked about the oil company profits.  And he said something like, "And they're just not going to let go of those easily."  He's after 'em.

He thinks the private sector's his golden piggy bank that's always going to produce and he thinks you can go along with it because you fall prey to this class envy stuff, but the bottom line, he admitted he's going to wipe out private insurance.  As I said earlier, I don't know if this slipped out, I don't know if he goofed up.  I know it's what he wants to do, but saying it is quite another thing.  He just telegraphed the fact that the public option is what he wants everybody to be on.  If he goes after the profits of the insurance -- and how is he going to do that, by the way?  If they're too profitable, in his view, what's he going to do?  Is he going to pass a law that says their profit can only be whatever percentage?  Is he going to raise taxes on them?  What's he going to do?  For one man to sit there and say, "Profits outrageous, we're going to squeeze those profits." Well, you squeeze the profits, which are the incentive for private sector businesses to be in business, if you squeeze the profit, you squeeze them out of business because they're competing with him and his public option, which doesn't have to show a profit.  That's why him telling you that, "If you like your plan, well, fine, keep it," is an out-and-out misrepresentation.  I'm going to find some of these fact check stories when we start the next hour.  New York Times just rips this press conference to shreds.  Somebody in the Drive-Bys is getting a guilty conscience.

RUSH:  No, no, no, my point is not to say Obama was wrong when he said doctors take out tonsillectomy -- take out tonsils for profit.  Not wrong.  Didn't make a mistake.  He was on the attack.  To him, the villains in health care are insurance companies and doctors.  And he's out to destroy 'em.  Like he's destroying your job market.

This is Not About Health Care
This is about government control over your life.

RUSH: Back to the phones to Chicago. This is Ted. Welcome, sir, to the EIB Network.  Hello.

CALLER:  Hello.  Thank you for taking my call.

RUSH:  Yes, sir.

CALLER:  Okay, just a question. Obama keeps talking about how all these people, they lost their job or they can't afford their insurance or whatever. Somehow they're in financial straits. But don't we already have programs like Medicaid and public aid to cover people who don't have any money?

RUSH:  That's why... Everybody gets coverage. Everybody gets health care in this country.  I had a story yesterday about young people who either got fired laid off or part time work and they don't have health care overage, and oh it was horrible. It was an AP story and it was designed to spur sympathy, and if you read the story, they all got treated nevertheless.  It was just tragic they didn't have any insurance.  You're exactly right. Medicaid is for the poor and Medicare is for the elderly, and the promise is, "It's free for you. You're poor; it's free for you."  Both programs are bankrupt!  The Obama plan builds on both of those programs.  See, your question, Ted, is exactly why the premise of this whole question is not the right one.  You know, I did a long interview on camera with Greta Van Susteren this morning right here at the Institute for Advanced Conservative Studies.  I was "unleashed." They're promoing it that way on Fox.

I was on fire, and I said, "The whole premise here is all wrong. We don't have anything structurally wrong with our health care.  It's the best in the world.  We don't need to tear it apart and rebuild it. Maybe tweak it around the edges."

And of course Greta was somewhat aghast, "You don't think there's a crisis?"

"No! Compared to the rest of the world we've got the best health care. Nobody leaves this country, Greta, to get treated.  They come here," and I pointed out to her, and I could see her eyes kind of got wide here.  I said, "Look, if we really care about the uninsured, we just spent close to a trillion dollars on the stimulus six months ago.  I ran the numbers, Greta, and $29 billion would cover the genuinely 12 million poor people in this country that don't have health insurance. For $29 billion! And then if $29 billion will cover 12 million then you can run the numbers.  So we could for one year have covered these people with chump change from the stimulus."  Now, if it's so important to cover them with health insurance, why the hell didn't we?

Why are we going all out? Ninety percent of the American people have health insurance.  What are we talking about here?  We're talking about people's fear, and that's why there is insurance.  You got a policy, you pay a premium based on the amount of risk that you want to take or that you can afford.  Except the problem is, of course, as we know that for 50 years the concept that health care should be free and you have to pay for it has been growing and growing and growing -- and don't forget, folks, that every day we are bombarded with something new that's going to kill us, from global warming to sharks to scorpions that end up being stowaways on airplanes to the latest food additive or food that could kill you.

Everybody's obsessed with health. They're out there joining health clubs. We got the most obese people in the world that are drinking this and eating that and so forth. We've got a population that is inundated. Chinese food's going to kill you! Trans fats are going to kill you! Secondhand cigarette smoke is gonna kill you! Everybody is thinking they're going to die;, everybody is thinking they're going to get sick. They want health insurance.  They want catastrophic health insurance.  It's just... All of this stuff is interlinked in order to create the demand for bigger government, which is somehow magically where the solution to everything lies -- which, of course, is a lie.  There are very few solutions to social problems in big government.  Thanks for that question, Ted.  We got ten minutes of an answer out of that.

RUSH: Joe in Key West, Florida.  It's great to have you on the EIB Network.  Hi.

CALLER:  Rush, let me tell you, it is a pleasure to be calling you from the Democrat Peoples Conch Republic.

RUSH: Yeah. (chuckles)

CALLER: And, you know, the more you go through this health care, Porkulus bill, the more it stinks!  I'm looking at page 1,000, where they have the "National Medical Device Registry," and it's just stunning to me that the government would want to know about every Class Two or Class Three medical device that's life supporting or life sustaining that "is or has been used in a patient." "...is or has been used." Not what they've paid for, but what anybody has paid for or has ever had placed in them.  I'm just waiting for the day that the ACORN representative comes by to tell me I have to register for insurance.  And they get paid for that?

RUSH:  Yeah, well, you have to register for it.

CALLER:  And if you're poor and if you're in a situation where you don't want to buy insurance and you don't want to be on Medicaid, you have to go on Medicaid.  But this is intrusive.

RUSH:  No, you don't.

CALLER:  Pardon?

RUSH:  Or you can pay a fine to the IRS.

CALLER:  Well, yeah, up to the amount of what your premium would be or $2500.  But for the government to get this intrusive into might life is just stunning to me.

RUSH:  Well, I'm glad you're reading it. I'm glad you're seeing these things.  I am waving the red flag.  I got the sirens going and the lights blinking.  This isn't about health care, and it's not about these devices you're talking about. These details illustrate what this is about: Regulating your behavior, the government keeping tabs on what you are doing and whether what you are doing is going to cause problems for you and them with health care expenses.  The simplest way to understand this is that it's not about health care, and that's why Obama won't get into any details here.  That's why he's lying.  "Oh, yeah! You're going to get increased coverage and more efficient treatment. It isn't going to cost you anything! A couple millionaires are gonna pay a higher tax rate and it's going to be a panacea."  If you're a Medicare or Medicaid patient, if you like dealing with it, fine and dandy. You can have it. It's going to get even worse (sigh) with all the forms.  Oh, my.

State-Run Media Feeling Guilty?
All of a sudden, they're criticizing Obama in droves.
July 23, 2009

BEGIN TRANSCRIPT

RUSH: Now, I mentioned earlier that the elements of State-Run Media, they gotta be getting guilty consciences in some of these places. I don't know what else explains this.  Robert Pear, Peter Baker in the New York Times today: "Experts Dispute Some Points in Health Talk."  This is pretty brutal here.  "Obama showed great fluency in the intricate details of health policy, but experts said some of his points were debatable."  See, the inside-the-Beltway crowd love the fluency.  They love the elegance, they love, "Oh, he's so smart."  They marvel at how deceptively he succeeds 'cause inside the Beltway, especially in post-Bush era they just love having somebody that can talk.

"Mr. Obama said doctors, nurses, hospitals, drug companies and AARP had supported efforts to overhaul health care.
While it is true the American Medical Association has endorsed a bill drafted by House Democratic leaders, a half-dozen state medical societies have sharply criticized provisions that would establish a new government-run health insurance plan. Likewise, Mr. Obama said Medicare could save large amounts of money by creating 'an independent group of doctors and medical experts who are empowered to eliminate waste and inefficiency' and hold down the annual increases in payments to health care providers.  Far from supporting this proposal, the American Hospital Association is urging hospital executives to lobby against it.  Of the proposed new cost-control agency, Mr. Obama said: 'It’s not going to reduce Medicare benefits. What it’s going to do is to change how those benefits are delivered so that they’re more efficient.'"  What the hell does that mean?

"Hospitals say the cuts could indeed cut services in some rural areas and from teaching hospitals, which receive extra payments because of higher costs.  In seeking to portray health legislation as bipartisan, Mr. Obama said that 160 Republican amendments were adopted in a bill approved last week by the Senate health committee. Republicans said many of the amendments involved technical provisions and did not alter the fundamental features of the bill.
The president said that health insurance companies were making 'record profits.' America’s Health Insurance Plans, the main lobby for insurers, contends that 'for every $1 spent on health care in America, approximately one penny goes to health plans’ profits.'  Mr. Obama said he was not proposing to ration care, but just wanted to coordinate it better. For example, he said, he wants to eliminate repetitious tests ordered by different doctors for the same patient. … The president continued to take credit for deficit reduction by making a claim that has been challenged by many experts.  'If we had done nothing, if you had the same old budget as opposed to the changes we made,' the deficit over the next 10 years would be $2.2 trillion greater, the president said.

"In fact, $1.5 trillion of those 'savings' are mainly based on an assumption that the United States would have had as many troops in Iraq in 10 years as it did when Mr. Obama took office. But before leaving office, President George W. Bush signed an agreement with Baghdad mandating the withdrawal of all American forces within three years." So there is no ten-year plan.  "So Obama's claiming credit for not spending money that under the policy he inherited would never have been spent in the first place," New York Times.  AP has one, a fact check, they outline the lies.  Their headline: "Obama's Health Care Claims Adrift?"  That's just a polite way of saying he's lying.  How long do you think it took the AP-Obama headline writer to come up with that one?  I'm not going to bore you.  We'll link to it at RushLimbaugh.com, but whole thing last night was just a sight to behold.  It really was.  What we had last night was arrogance on parade.  You have to be arrogant and full of hubris to think you can actually go out and tell those kinds of lies and have them believed.  You must have a really, really high impression of yourself.  You must really believe the people in your audience don't care what you're saying.  They just marvel that they're in your presence and listening to you.  We're talking about an ego here that has no boundaries.

The Office of Imaginary Information
Obama makes up his own economic facts and figures.
July 23, 2009

BEGIN TRANSCRIPT

RUSH: So we had a disaster of a press conference last night, according to the Drive-By Media that loves Obama.  As I said in the first hour, this was great.  The more we learn about this guy, whining all night, "We inherited a mess," and lying about what he inherited, lying about inheriting a $1.3 trillion deficit.  He voted for everything that led to the deficit.  The Democrats have been running the Congress since 2007.  Obama, with 150 big days working in the Senate and a six-year term -- well, he didn't serve all six, but he voted for everything that busted the budget.  He voted for TARP.  He voted for all this.  He inherited his own work.  But he still whines about it.

You and I, ladies and gentlemen, we see certain things.  The casual watcher, casual viewer last night -- and I'll bet the ratings stink.  That was laborious last night.  But the casual viewer is going to say, "Why does he keep blaming, why is he keep whining, we inherited, we inherited," and then to talk about all the successes?  You see, this is why I was afraid to give the audio engineer the sound bite roster order because now I've decided we're going to do number 11 here.  I just watched with my mouth wide open.  The CBO and all these other agencies that say, "No, Mr. President, your numbers are not right," he needs to come up with his own White House agency to counter the CBO, the Office of Imaginary Information, or OII, the Office of Imaginary Information, which he can cite.  Listen to this.  I don't know what to say about it.

OBAMA (sped up):  A result of the actions we took in those first weeks we've been able to pull our economy back from the brink.  We took steps to stabilize our financial institutions and our housing market, and we passed a Recovery Act that has already saved jobs and created new ones, delivered billions in tax relief to families and small businesses, and extended unemployment insurance and health insurance to those who have been laid off.  Of course we still have a long way to go.  And the Recovery Act will continue to save and create more jobs over the next two years just like it was designed to do.

RUSH:  Ladies and gentlemen, there is no job creation taking place.  There are no jobs being saved other than in government.  The economy's not back from the brink.  We have not stabilized the housing market.  None of that's true, not a word.  Tax relief in billions of dollars to families and small businesses?  What did I miss?  Well, we have extended unemployment insurance.  These unemployment numbers, Barbara Hollingsworth, local opinion editor at the Washington Examiner: "'Is Unemployment Actually Much Higher? Like Close to 20 Percent?' -- Every month, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) publishes six 'measures of labor underutilization' (i.e. unemployment). The official unemployment rate used by politicians and the media, referred to as U3, measures the percent of the civilian labor force that is out of work. But U3 does not include so-called 'discouraged workers' who have completely stopped looking for jobs, 'marginally attached' workers who had not searched for a job within the past month, or those involuntarily employed part-time instead of full time. U6 includes every willing worker who wants, but is not able to secure a full time position, so a state’s U6 rate is obviously higher than its U3. Much higher, in fact.  For example, Michigan, which has the highest U3 figure in the nation (11 percent), has an eye-popping 19.2 percent U-6 unemployment rate. Nine other states’ U6 figures are also above 15 percent, according to BLS."  Here they are:

Oregon: 18.4%
California: 17.7%
Rhode Island: 17.1%
South Carolina: 16.8%
Tennessee: 15.7%
Florida: 15.6 %
Arizona: 15.5%
Nevada: 15.2%
Ohio: 15.1%

Now, I don't know where in the world you can come out and say, "As a result of the actions we took in the first weeks we've been able to pull our economy back from the brink.  We took steps to stabilize the housing market, and we passed a Recovery Act that's already saved jobs and created new ones."  Everybody watching this last night, "How come I don't have one?  Where are these jobs?  What are people doing?"  And then we find out we've only spent, what, five or six percent of the Recovery Act.  This guy lied through his teeth to the press corps, and not one question disputing any of this.  There wasn't one question about Iraq or Afghanistan.  There wasn't one question.  I mean, Obama says he wants to do a press conference on health care and they dutifully oblige, and they ask softball setup.  There are a couple questions that were asked that were somewhat tough.  Where's this transparency?  You promised all these hearings on C-SPAN?  Where are they?  And he, you know, sort of knocked his way around that.  This is becoming a mantra now, this next sound bite.

OBAMA (sped up):  I understand how easy it is for this town to become consumed in the game of politics, to turn every issue into a running tally of who's up and who's down.  I've heard that run Republican strategist told his party that even though they may want to compromise, it's better politics to go for the kill.  Another Republican senator said that defeating health care reform is about breaking me.  So let me be clear.  This isn't about me.

RUSH:  They are really getting to him.  You never heard Bush talk about this thing in personal terms.  Bush never whined, he never complained, here's Obama, "These mean Republicans." I'm telling you this guy has led a charmed life.  You don't dare criticize him, you don't laugh at him.  He's Barack Obama.  You just don't do that.  And now the next sound bite, this is another thing I think the average American watching this thing, this is a kind of rub you raw --yeah, we know you're the president.  He sits there and says, "I am the president."  Listen to this bite.

OBAMA:  What I said is that there may be a number of different ways to raise money. I put forward what I thought was the best proposal which was to limit the deductions, the itemized deductions for the wealthiest Americans.  The House suggested a surcharge on wealthy Americans and my understanding, although I haven't seen the final versions, is that there's been talk about making that basically only apply to families whose joint income is a million dollars.  To me that meets my principle that it's not being shouldered by families who are already having a tough time.  It's my job, I'm the president.  And I think this has to get done.

President Obama Comes Alive When the Topic Turns to Racism
He was listening to Reverend Wright all those years.
July 23, 2009

BEGIN TRANSCRIPT

RUSH: I want to go to this business last night of Obama saying the cops in Cambridge, Massachusetts "acted stupidly."  Because I think what we learned last night, ladies and gentlemen, is that President Obama did, after all, listen to Reverend Wright all those 20 years.  He says, "Yeah, I was a member of the church 20 years. I sat there and I didn't hear any of that." I think he heard it all.  That question he got from Lynn Sweet of the Chicago Sun-Times, that's when he came alive.  The rest of the press conference, he didn't even want to be there.  He knew that they were in trouble, so he goes out there and tries to dazzle everybody with his professorial insight and capabilities and elegance and all that.

But when that question about Henry Louis Gates and the arrest in his home came up, why, it was passion, excitement, animation, fire!  He came alive.  That question was, "Mr. President, recently professor Henry Louis Gates was arrested at his home in Cambridge.  What does that incident say to you, and what does it say about race relations in America?"  A loaded question if I have heard one. This is a liberal idyllic panacea, Cambridge, Harvard. It's liberal everything.  So now we've got racist cops profiling a distinguished Harvard professor -- who to my eye, every time I see this guy on TV I see somebody enraged. I see somebody angry.  He's a liberal, they all are.  Here's Obama's answer.

OBAMA (sped up):  Well, I should say at the outset that, uh, "Skip" Gates is a friend, uh, so I may be a little biased here. I don't know all the facts. What's been reported, though, is that the guy forgot his keys, uh,jimmied his way to get into the house, uh, there was, uh, a report called into the police station that there might be a burglary taking place -- so far, so good, right? I mean, if I was trying to jigger into... Well, I guess this is my house now so --

PRESS: (laughter)

OBAMA (sped up): -- it probably wouldn't happen. (laughter) But let's say my old house in Chicago.

PRESS: (laughter)

OBAMA (sped up): Um, here I'd get shot.

PRESS: (laughter)

RUSH:  Okay.  Now, I have a specific thought about this. (interruption) Well, what do you think my specific thought is, Snerdley?  Why do you think Obama's...? Nobody gets shot when they find 'em when they shouldn't be on the White House grounds. Nobody gets shot there.  I mean, it's the last, last resort. They got Secret Service. They capture. He says he would get shot!  "That's right.  I'm a black guy!" In fact, grab sound bite three.  I didn't want to use this but I'm now going to use it.  "I'm a black guy. I'd get shot."  Don't doubt me on this, folks.  Don't doubt me.  "I'd get shot."  He's laughing and they're all laughing.  If I tell a joke about somebody getting shot on this show and I laugh about it, I will not hear the end of it for I don't know how long.  Let's go back to February 11th, 2007, 60 Minutes, Steve Kroft interviewing Obama and Michelle (My Belle) Obama.  Croft said, "Michelle, it's a tough question to ask, but a number of years ago Colin Powell was thinking of running for president. His wife Alma really didn't want him to run, she was worried about some crazy person with a gun.  Is that something you think about?

MICHELLE 2007:  I don't lose sleep over it because, ummm, the realities are, you know, as a black man Barack can get shot, you know, going to the gas station.  You know (laughs) so you know, you can't --

RUSH:  You know.  Get shot going to the gas station.  So last night he said if he tries to break in the White House, he'd get shot, and the cops up there "acted stupidly" in Cambridge.  "I know, 'Skip' Gates.  I don't know the facts."  I don't know all the facts, but I know the cops "acted stupidly."  In the next bite, he continues, saying again he's ignorant of the facts.

OBAMA (sped up): Now, I don't know, not having been there and not seeing all the facts, what role race played in that, but I think it's fair to say, number one, any of us would be pretty angry; number two, that the Cambridge Police, uh, acted stupidly in arresting somebody when there was already proof that they were in their own home; and number three, what I think we know separate and apart from this incident is that, uh, there is a long history in this country of African Americans and Latinos, uh, being stopped by law enforcement disproportionately. That -- that's just a fact.

RUSH:  Okay.  So I've long thought that there's a chip on the shoulder here, and that there's a little anger out there at the country based on who his mentors, associates, all that were.  Gates was not "stopped." This was not a profiling case.  Let's review what happened. To the best of my knowledge, a neighbor sees Gates. (interruption) Okay.  Okay.  Oh, okay.  A friend and driver of the car, in addition to Gates, tried to get in the house.  Gates and one other person.  And some neighbor said, "Whoa, what was that? That doesn't look right." They called the police. My first reaction would be to thank the neighbor for looking out for me.  But I guarantee you the neighbor is also going to be, before this is all over, a racist. In Cambridge now. We're talking Harvard, Cambridge!

We're talking idyllic liberal setting.  It may as well be Duke.  May as well be the lacrosse team here.  May as well be that dancer.  Gates and a friend break in, and the cops show up, and apparently all hell breaks loose inside the house, handcuffs and so forth.  Obama doesn't know what all happened -- and we don't, either.  There are five or six different versions of what went on in there.  We still really don't know.  Bill Cosby has come out today in Boston, and he can't believe the president would say what he said about this admitting he doesn't know all the facts.  So Obama wasn't quite through.  After taking this incident -- where Gates was not stopped. He was not pulled over. The cops were called there by somebody in the neighborhood.  This was not a profiling incident.  Here's more from President Obama.

OBAMA:  When I was in the state legislature in Illinois, we worked on a racial profiling, uh, bill because there was indisputable evidence that blacks and Hispanics were being stopped disproportionately. Uh, and that is a sign, an example of how, you know, race remains a factor in the society.  That doesn't lessen the incredible progress that has been made. I am standing here as testimony to the progress that's been made, and yet the fact of the matter is that, you know, this still haunts us.

RUSH:  Okay, wasn't supposed to.  We're supposed to be beyond all this now, right?  Postpartisan, postracial.  So last week we dump on the white firefighters; this week from the Oval Office... Obama's buddies at ACORN dumping on the white firefighters in New Haven.  This week from actually the East Room we now start dumping on cops.  The cop in question, Sergeant James Crowley, had this exchange with an unidentified reporter.

REPORTER:  Mr. Gates has asked you for an apology.  What is your reaction to that?

CROWLEY:  There will be no apology.

REPORTER:  Does it...? Is this now and ever no apology?

CROWLEY:  Yes.

RUSH:  No apology. He didn't do anything wrong.  We've heard now this guy gave mouth-to-mouth resuscitation to Reggie Lewis of the Boston Celtics who'd had a heart attack. He's black. The cop was even citing this. "I didn't see race. I saw a human being in distress," and the neighbor in Cambridge, a neighbor of Professor Gates.  This is quick.  It's five seconds long.

NEIGHBOR:  I would have to say, you know, it was -- as the police report said -- "belligerent."

RUSH:  He was belligerent, talking about Gates.  Now, here's Charlie Ogletree, Harvard professor, Gates' lawyer on ABC's Good Morning America.  The question: "What was your client's reaction to the president's comments tonight?"

OGLETREE:  He was simply pleased that Barack acknowledged that he was a friend and that what he had read and heard and -- and understood to have been reported, that Professor Gates did not violate the law by being in his own house with identification saying that he was there lawfully.

RUSH:  Was he charged with that?  He wasn't charged with being there. He wasn't stopped and he wasn't charged with legally being in his house.  He was charged with disorderly conduct.  Something went on in there.  I mean, they dropped the charges, but something went on.  Now, Gates is not through.  Last night Black in America on CNN, host Soledad O'Brien asked a question: "Originally they put the handcuffs behind your back."

GATES:  They put the handcuffs behind my back and I told them that I was handicapped, I used a cane. They had a debate. There was a black officer there and he was very sensitive. He persuaded them to move the handcuffs from around the back to the front, and took me to the Cambridge police station and booked me, fingerprints, mug shot which has now been (chuckling) all over the universe.

O'BRIEN:  We've seen it a lot.

GATES:  It made me realize was how vulnerable all black men, how vulnerable all people of color are -- and all poor people -- to capricious forces like a rogue policeman. And this man clearly was a rogue policeman.

RUSH:  This is how it starts, folks.  This is how it starts.  I don't know how many poor people live in Cambridge.  I don't know. They make it sound like this happens in Cambridge all the time.  Make it sound like all this profiling going in Cambridge all the time.  But this is how this stuff starts.  That stuff... It's no accident that he's saying this and characterizing it as this, and now making this a national cause, a national issue.  Same show, Soledad O'Brien, Black in America on CNN, Gates wrapped it up with this.

GATES:  My lawyers and I are considering what further action because --

O'BRIEN:  What does that mean?

GATES: -- this is --

O'BREIN:  Does that mean lawsuit?

GATES:  Um, perhaps, because this is not about me.  This is about the vulnerability of black men in America.

RUSH:  We've got a new mantra here!  Nothing's about these guys.  Gates, "it's not about me." He's going to sue for"all black men in America.  It's not about me.  This is a change of subject.  This is suspect, to me.  It isn't about me; it's about all black men in America?

BREAK TRANSCRIPT

RUSH:  Okay, folks, I have been gingerly dancing around the Gates business but I've decided here that I'm going to tell you what I really think about it.  In the first place, what we now know is that Gates was not arrested sipping tea sitting on his sofa legally in his house.  He followed the police out of the house screaming at them.  How else would neighbors know he was belligerent?  That's when he was arrested.  He wasn't sitting in a couch sipping tea daintily.  He was screaming at the cop there to help protect his property.  I've also learned that Gates' house had a history of having been broken into.  This is why the neighbor called.  There are a lot of break-ins in this neighborhood recently.  In fact, there was damage done to Gates' door.

Now, here's what I think.  The cops come, they find out it's your house, you're legally there, there's no reason to arrest you.  Something happened.  I think Skip Gates wanted to be arrested and provoked the cop.  The only person who should really come under any scrutiny about the cops being there is Gates almost certainly liberal neighbor. I mean, we're talking Cambridge here.  These houses are kind of close together.  The neighbor didn't recognize her own neighbor, didn't recognize Gates, called the cops.  When you live in a neighborhood with houses right next to each other, normal people recognize their neighbors.  But the neighbor, no doubt being a liberal, probably racist, saw what she saw.

Once the cops show up, Gates instantly saw opportunity for capital P publicity, chance to get out from the shadow of his former colleague, Cornel West, there's a rivalry between those two guys. You have to go out of your way to be disorderly to get arrested, especially after it's been established that you are the owner of the house.  And, by the way, Snerdley, let me check.  We all know who Henry Louis Gates is.  Do you know what department he teaches in at Harvard?  What's his department?  African-American Studies.  What is African-American studies?  It's an entire department devoted to creating racial friction.  All of his academic writings are about racial issues.  Something about this -- and then Obama jumping on that question last night, "Cops acted stupidly."  This is how unfortunate things start and grow and snowball, and I'm not comfortable with it.

BREAK TRANSCRIPT

RUSH:  Yeah, you had an obnoxious citizen challenging the cops to arrest him, and, in essence, they did and there's a picture of a black cop standing right there.  One thing here, Obama, what he did last night, this is not a force for positive race relations in this country.  He's dealing in stereotypes and I am deeply troubled by that.

BREAK TRANSCRIPT

RUSH: Well, I said I was through discussing the Henry Louis Gates situation, but I have more to say.  Robert Gibbs, the press secretary at the White House, said that Obama was not calling the police officer stupid.  The only problem is we heard him.  The president said that the police acted stupidly in arresting Gates for disorderly conduct.  But Obama wasn't calling the police officer stupid.  Gibbs is saying he was not calling the officer stupid, the situation got out of hand.  He used the word stupidly, but he didn't call him stupid.  What we got last night, the president's reaction to this was not presidential.  The presidential reaction is, "I don't know everything that happened.  I know Gates, he's a friend of mine.  I don't know what happened.  I'm going to leave this up to the local authorities.  When all the details are known," blah, blah, blah.  Stay out of it.

But, what we got was the reaction of a community organizer.  We saw the community organizer that is Barack Obama.  We got the ACORN reaction last night.  We got the militant black reaction, the Cornel West angry reaction.  Basically we saw a community organizer in action last night, and he sends a message to young people all over the country that cops are stupid.  The president of the United States says the police act stupidly.  All it does is cement in certain people's minds that there's a constant adversarial relationship with the cops, the cops are bad.  My president even says the cops are stupid.  President says the cops are racist, the cops profiling and so forth.  This is agitation last night, folks.  That's why I'm very uncomfortable with this.  Obama is not a force for positive race relations in this country.  He is not a uniter.  He played into stereotypes with this, and he repeats them.  He shoulda kept his mouth shut.  He's not capable of that.  He shoulda kept his mouth shut.

He doesn't know the facts, he wasn't there, he pops off, just exactly as he would back in Chicago in the community organizing days.  He goes off about racial profiling, all the rest.  Based on what?  A limited amount of information about a single incident where he's quick to condemn the cop, the whole police department, and white America.  Mr. President, you are not a victim.  You are, in fact, the president of the United States.  You went to private school.  You went to Ivy League schools.  You are a millionaire.  You have a charmed life.  Congratulations.  You're living the American dream.  Stop pretending otherwise.  If anybody behaved stupidly yesterday it was the president, in even taking the question.

BREAK TRANSCRIPT

RUSH: Obama just hit the stage in Cleveland for a telepromptered town meeting, and he got a rock star welcome.  Of course it's a Democrat town and a Democrat region of the state.  Something just hit me.  All these presidents that do this when they go out and meet the local yokels, but he's mentioning all of the state and local officials who are there. "Your secretary of state, Jennifer Brunner is here!" and the place erupts.  "And the great mayor of Cleveland, Frank Jackson!" The place erupts.  I don't know, folks.  It just... I get a little crazy when we start cheering government officials like they're rock stars.

Let's hear it for the comptroller, and here is the director of sanitation services, who's also with us!

Yay!

And here is the local cop!

Booooooooooooo!

By the way, the cop in Cambridge has spoken out on the radio in Boston.  His name is James Crowley.

CROWLEY:  He's the president of the United States and I support the president to a point, but I guess it's disappointing that he waded into what should be a local issue and something that really plays out here.  As he himself said at the beginning of that press conference, he didn't know all the facts.  He certainly doesn't based on those comments.  I just think it was very disappointing.  The reason I asked the professor to come outside was not as some would suggest because I knew I couldn't arrest him in his house. I didn't know who he was I was by myself, I was the only police officer standing there, and I got a report that there was people breaking into a house.  That was for my safety, first and foremost. I have to go home night. I have three beautiful children and a wife who depend on me. So I had no other motive other than to ensure my safety.

RUSH:  He's probably engaging in procedure, textbook manual procedure.  If he's the only -- and there are two guys that were breaking into the house with a crowbar! Gates and his driver were breaking into their house with a crowbar.

We'll Be Ready in the Fall, Dingy
Reid says there will be no health care vote this summer.
July 23, 2009

BEGIN TRANSCRIPT

RUSH: I'll tell you what, that press conference last night, folks, was so good -- Obama last night was so effective -- that the top Democrat in the Senate, Dingy Harry, has just said that lawmakers in the Senate will not vote until after August on their health care bill, a blow to Obama's ambitious timetable.  And let me tell you something, Senator Reid.  We will be ready for you when you come back after the August recess.  We will be ready.  And, Senator Reid, your colleagues are going to go home for the August recess and they're going to have meetings, town meetings, and they're going to hear a barrage like they haven't heard.

They're going to hear questions at town hall meetings from constituents and voters who know more than their senator knows.  They are going to hear it full force.  Remember, though, that Dingy Harry was talking to Obama, and Obama said, "You know, Harry, I have a gift," meaning his ability to speak and be pervasive. He was so persuasive last night that there will be no health care vote in the Senate until the value.  Senator Durbin alluded to this last night in a story in The Hill.  Over in the house Nancy Pelosi says, "I have the votes."  The leader of the Blue Dogs, the guy from Arkansas, says, "No she doesn't have the votes -- and if they had the votes, they wouldn't be pressuring us the way they are."  So the health care vote delayed until the fall.  We will be ready when they get back to continue this.

BREAK TRANSCRIPT

RUSH: Let's listen to Dingy Harry make his announcement.  Obama's press conference last night so magnetic, so effective, that Harry Reid made the following statement just moments ago.

REID:  The Republicans, one of the things that they ask is that they have more time.  I've had a number of conversations, for example, with Olympia Snowe.  And so the decision was made to give them more time for the Finance Committee part of what we're trying to get.  And I don't think it's unreasonable.  This is a complex, difficult issue.  As you know, the health committee worked a month.  The Finance Committee, working to come up with a bipartisan bill, have worked longer than that.  I spoke to Senator Baucus last night; I spoke to Senator Conrad this morning.  They're going to be able to mark something up before we leave here.

RUSH:  But they're not going to have a vote.  They delayed it until the fall.  And we'll be ready.  Over in the House, Nancy Pelosi says she's got the votes, but the leading Blue Dog Democrat, Mike Ross of Arkansas, says, (paraphrasing) "No, I don't think they have the votes.  They wouldn't be pressuring us the way they are if they had the votes."  From ThePolitico.com today: "'Democrats Raise Concerns about Barbara Boxer.' -- A big chunk of the House climate change bill is in the hands of Senate Environment and Public Works Committee Chairwoman Barbara Boxer -- and some of its supporters are worried that she’s not up to the task." Bottom line, no liberal Democrat is ever up to the task.  Obama is not up to the task, as he so well demoed last night.  Biden is not up to the task, which he proves every time he opens his mouth.  Nancy Pelosi is not up to the task, which she proves by lying about having the votes.  Hillary is so out of her depth and proves that all over the earth.  None of them is up to any task.

Speaking of Hillary, I didn't get to this yesterday, but where is she?  She's secretary of state.  She's in Thailand.  She's in Phuket, Thailand.  As a broadcast professional, you gotta be very careful how you pronounce that, by the way, "Foo-ket," Thailand.  And you know what she announced in Phuket, Thailand?  A potential missile shield in the Middle East to protect people from Iran.  Now, did she clear that with Obama?  Because Obama does not want to deploy a missile shield in Europe to protect people there from any further Russian activity.  This is amazing.  You got all these czars and envoys in really important parts of the world, and there's Hillary Clinton in Thailand?  Making an announcement about Iran?  Very strange.

"In private conversations, Senate staffers say that Boxer’s abrasive personal style helped tank the climate bill that Sen. Joe Lieberman (I-Conn.) and former Sen. John Warner (R-Va.) sponsored last year. And several recent embarrassing episodes involving the California Democrat have them worried about a repeat performance.  During a committee hearing in June, Boxer upbraided a brigadier general for calling her 'Ma’am' rather than 'Senator.' During another hearing this month, Boxer found herself in a testy exchange with the CEO of the National Black Chamber of Commerce, who accused her of 'condescending' to him. For some Democratic staffers, the incidents underscored the danger of having an outspoken partisan liberal in charge of making the kinds of compromises needed to get cap and trade through the Senate."

The New York Times has reported a $39.1 million second quarter profit.  How did they do this?  "The company said it cut its operating costs by 20 percent to manage its revenue falloff, following a pattern that also emerged in recent earnings reports from fellow newspaper publishers Gannett Co. and McClatchy Co."  So what do we learn here?  We learn that the New York Times can cut enough to make a profit and stay in business.  There should be lessons for liberals on managing budgets there.  They had all these budgets losing money, no profits for the longest time, all of a sudden across the board 20% cuts.  They're still in business, and now they're showing a profit.  The private sector will tell you everything you have to do in order to survive or what you'll have to do to fail.  So here's a bunch of libs at the New York Times cutting the budget 20%, showing a profit, you think that will be reflected in their editorials or in their writing about Obama and his budgets and his health care programs and all this spending?  Nope.  Not at all.  Real-world experience gets trumped by liberal statism, radicalism, and ideology.

Caller:  We've Had Enough of Paying for Other People's Stuff
Her frustration is felt by millions of Americans.

RUSH: Claire in Palm Bay, Florida.  Hi.  Welcome to the EIB Network.  Great to have you here.

CALLER:  It's an honor, sir.

RUSH:  Thank you.

CALLER: Ugh. (sigh) I just want to say that my anger and hatred for this man is just growing by the day.  We're paying 600 bucks a month for my husband's job for insurance no big deal I can call in there today and go in there tomorrow, specialist make a couple weeks. No big deal because I know I'm getting in. Now I'm going to have to suffer and wait along with millions of others, you know, three months maybe to get into them and I'll be lucky if I can go to a primary care doctor.  Why isn't...? I got a couple things to say.  Why isn't the media saying the real numbers of these people that are uninsured like the illegals and the people that don't want to pay for insurance?  You remember Graeme  (sic) Frost a couple years ago, that little kid that went on Capitol Hill with his parents, they were from Ft. Lauderdale?  The parents had a fit. There was a big stink about it.  And his parents were loaded. He was an architect. She's a nurse. Blah, blah, blah, the three cars.

RUSH:  I'll never forget it. I'll never forget the.

CALLER:  Oh, yes little Graeme, yes. You know, it's people like that that don't want to pay for it and this is just getting out of control. I'm getting frightened about what's going on, and what my solution --

RUSH:  Wait, let's go back... Okay, go ahead with your solution.

CALLER:  Okay.  Well, my idea is set these bleeding heart liberals and movie stars why do they come up with a tax or make them pay. Like Bill Gates, Oprah, Kennedy, Pelosi, Soros, why can't they with all their money, pay?  Maybe they can pay for this insurance crap that's going on.  This is insane that we have to pay for, you know, these idiots that don't have any and what I heard yesterday the illegals are exempt from this, they don't have to pay now?

RUSH:  Now, this is very, very interesting.  Very, very interesting.  Because earlier this week there was a town meeting in Maryland with Senator Ben Cardin (D-MD), and one of his constituents was there.  This constituent had lost his job and lost his health care, and he didn't mind.  He said, "I have the money or other things.  I don't mind not having to pay for my health insurance."  And Cardin said, well -- and I guy wanted to know, you going to fine me if I don't have health insurance?

CALLER:  Oh, yeah.

RUSH:  And Cardin said: Well, you're a burden on the system because you're making everybody else pay for you.  That sounds like what you're saying, that you resent like the Frost family, you know, being trotted out here as examples of an unfair, unjust health care system. And you're sick and tired of picking up the slack for people who access the system an daren't paying anything for it.  That's right?

CALLER:  That's correct.  I mean isn't there a solution like my old dentist down south, before we moved up here, he had a plan, I think it was a hundred bucks, 150 bucks a year. You can go and get your x-rays, two cleanings, this, that, and the other.  Isn't there something that they can have the doctors come up with for these people that don't want to pay or, you know, the lower class?

RUSH:  Well, now, wait a second, now.  This "don't want to pay" business, I'm not sure how this works.  If you go to the doctor and you don't have insurance and you get treated, they're going to send you a bill.

CALLER:  True.  That is true.

RUSH:  Ninety percent of the American people are covered.  I think your focus is correct when you say we are -- and the House health care bill purposely stipulates that we're going to cover all of the illegal immigrants in the country, whatever number it is, 12 million to 20 million.  But, look, your complaint, your lament here is not just limited to health care.  There are people all over this country fed up with paying for a lot of things for people that are not assuming the responsibility.

CALLER:  Oh, yes, I agree with that, yeah.

RUSH:  But --

CALLER:  Housing and other things.

RUSH:  But your circumstance, the thing that you describe, is no reason to overhaul the whole system and tear it apart and put it back together again in a way that will make it even less functional.  So you have my sympathy.  I totally relate to what you're saying.

Liberalism Thrives on Deception
It's a philosophy built on lies.  Without them, it collapses.
July 23, 2009

BEGIN TRANSCRIPT

RUSH: John in Punta Gorda, Florida.  How are you?  Nice to have you with us.

CALLER:  Hi, Rush.  How are you doing today?

RUSH:  Very well, sir, thanks much.

CALLER:  Rush, I'd like to talk to you from couple of minutes about honesty and integrity versus the culture or the spirit of deception that we seem to see with Obama.  I'm a graduate of the United States Naval Academy and I have three sons who also attend service academies -- either the Naval Academy or the Air Force Academy -- and we all each in our term have come to understand that lying is an intent to deceive.  And any intent to deceive at the service academies is considered to be an honor offense.  When I look at Obama -- who rides a cult not only of personality but also a culture of deception; when I look at the Saul Alinsky connection deceptions, the Bill Ayers and Bernardine Dohrn and Jeremiah Wright; more recently the birth certificate falsification question; the stimulus lies; the health care results lies; the ACORN connection lies; the firing of the inspector general; and his agenda for us, which he's just not being forthcoming about -- all of these things fall into, in my opinion, this culture of deception.

It's very difficult to listen to our president without feeling that he is either out-and-out lying or he is posturing something, getting ready to lie.  I believe polls are falling not only because the economy is not responding to the stimulus, but also because people are sensing that this cult of deception and lying is, in fact, a big part of who this guy is.  I think his moral authority is going fast. And now when he needs to advance his own agenda, he's in fact reaching a tipping point, and people will not have anything to do with what he says because they simply don't trust him.  When you're at one of these service academies here, you're an officer in the service.  When you lose your honor and you lose your integrity, you simply lose other people's trust.  And you're of no use to anybody.  Integrity is a mind-set.  It's a mind-set the same way deception is a mind-set.  And people who deceive have a pattern of deceiving over and over and over again.  I think in his case that this stuff is directly related to a highly dysfunctional family background where he was abandoned by both parents, and his radical early influences.  But I also think that this cult of deception on his part is approaching a word that I have not heard relative to this administration, and that is "treason."  I believe that this inability of his to be honest and to be forthcoming and rather to be devious, constitutes serious acts of disloyalty to our sovereign nation.  What do you think of that, Rush?

RUSH:  Well, I think that you are well spoken, you're articulate, and I think you're very honorable.  And I think you mean everything you said, and I don't think you're making it up, and you're certainly not trying to deceive anybody.  I don't know. You know, I get a little worn out on the family-made-me-do-it excuse.  I have a much simpler explanation, and I am with you.  He has to be deceptive.  If he were to tell everybody who he really is, what he really thinks and what his agenda really is, he woulda never gotten the Democrat Party nomination, much less been elected president.  All liberalism is deceit.  All communism is lies.  All of socialism is lies.  The promises, I should say. The promises of communism, the promises of socialism, the promises of liberalism, are all lies.  And it's all out there to see.  But we don't examine the results of these people.  We give them credit for great big hearts and for having wonderful intentions.

One of the interesting things that's happening now, however, John -- and I addressed this elegantly yesterday. The liberal Democrats over in the House and Senate, they are so cocky, they are so arrogant that they are more open about who they are and what they think than ever before -- and this will be their undoing.  Liberalism has always had to be disguised to win national elections in this country.  It's always had to have been disguised, and Obama knows it.  So I think this guy has been well taught. You talk about service academies. I think he's been groomed for this. I think he's been taught, groomed, mentored to be able to reach this height in the middle of deception by pretending and convincing people he's something other than what he is.  For example, he's not a moderate; he's not unique; he's not above politics; he's not postpartisan; he's not postracial.

He's just the most radical liberal Democrat that has ever attained the White House.  Now, he is still practicing the deception.  The liberal Democrats over in the House and Senate, not so much.  The Barney Franks are pretty out in the open about what they want to do and what they want to say.  The Barbara Boxers, ditto; and a lot of his cabinet people, ditto. But he is still practicing the art of deception.  When you get into "treason," that's a specific criminal charge.  I wouldn't go there.  I think this is just politics.  He's supposed to be above politics.  But I agree with you that his agenda, his designs on this country are nothing -- nothing anywhere close -- to his stated designs, desires, agenda, or what have you.  It is why I say (to the shock and chagrin of many) that rising unemployment is something being done purposefully.

It is why I say that anybody with an economic brain -- with any economic education, with access to the finest economic brains of the country -- knows full well that doing what they're doing is not going to create a growing economy.  They know this, like my analogy earlier in the program. I came up with this on the fly, but I wanted to come up with an analogy because I really feel it important to persuade people of this.  This purposeful destruction of the US economy can be illustrated this way.  Imagine a giant airplane.  You got a hundred thousand... Well, put 500 people on this airplane, and it's up flying. The plane is being flown by Obama and Biden's in the copilot seat, and back in the cabin as the flight attendants and the people running the plane. You put whoever you want in there. Put in cabinet secretaries.

Put Barney Frank in there, put Harry Reid, put Barbara Boxer.  And they are ordering people on the airplane to jump off, to jump out without parachutes.  And they're saying, "You'll be fine, you'll be fine.  Just hope.  Just hope.  Just be patient. You'll be fine," and they keep pushing people out of the plane with no parachutes. Now, anybody would know if they push you out of an airplane without a parachute, you're dead.  If you implement policies as Obama has to stimulate the economy you are not stimulating the economy.  You are forcing people out of an airplane without a parachute.  And then you land and you get another 500 people and take them up and do the same thing, and you keep promising, "It's gonna work if you just have faith.  Just trust me.  It's gonna work.  Eventually we're going to push people out of this airplane and they aren't going to die."

And you keep landing and filling the plane back up, and you keep pushing them out with no parachute.  You say, "Rush, nobody would ever do that."  I know nobody would ever do that.  "Well, Rush, nobody would ever purposely destroy the economy."  Au contraire! It's happening. That's the point. They are pushing us out of an airplane with no parachute.  Or try we're on the Titanic.  We've sunk.  We're aboard but we're at the bottom of the ocean.  They finally show up to rescue us, we're dead, we're drowned. But they claim they're saving our lives.  It is deception. There's no question it's deception.  But it's a deception for an end that people don't even want to contemplate.  Like I told you say -- you will I'm giving some of this away -- I so the as the for one hour today (looking good, by the way) for a television interview with Greta Van Susteren will air in two parts starting tonight on Fox.  The whole notion of Obama failing came up again.

She said, "But I don't understand why you keep saying you want him to fail."

I said, "Well, it's like too late now, he has failed. He's failed!"

She said, "I know..." and don't misunderstand. I'm not impugning Greta here. I like her very much.  But she said, "I hope this works. You don't want it to work?"

I said, "No. The difference is I know it won't work.  We're in the middle of seeing it not working! What's going to change between now and next year with the same policy?  We're losing jobs left and right."

"But don't you want people...?"

"Yes!  That's why I wanted him to fail implementing this.  His policies have led to 9.5% unemployment, on the way to double-digit.  This is not, Greta, how you stimulate an economy.  This is not how you create jobs.  The blueprint is there.  We know how to do this.  This is being done on purpose."  I said, "'Hope' is an excuse for doing nothing.  I don't have time to sit around and hope. I want every American to succeed! I want every American to have whatever opportunity out there they wish to access.  They don't right now, and this was predictable," and that's my point, folks.  This was predictable.  All of these coming tax increases, all of this mindless spending, all of this debt.  The government simply can't create jobs.  It doesn't happen, except in their own sector.  It's just a rotten shame what is happening here, and the real crime -- you want to talk treason? The real crime is all of the people who are complicit. There are hundreds of accomplices in this, and they're Democrats, and they know full well this is not going to do what they say it's going to do.

And the fall-back is, "Well, look at the rotten mess we inherited from Bush."

“RUSH: Ladies and gentlemen, there is no job creation taking place. There are no jobs being saved other than in government. The economy’s not back from the brink. We have not stabilized the housing market. None of that’s true, not a word.”

Look at the figures for yourselves. The man is lying. Another 500K+ laid off in the month of June!

Can’t wait to see what the banking industry brings us on Friday, via FDIC Friday when they post the newest bank closures. Grrrrrrr!
