Yeah, I'll bet it's time to move on. The longer this stuff lingers the worse it smells. soon the media may actually begin to ask some difficult questions, like who was that second guy that vanished into the mists? Interesting point.

I haven’t done much digging but was surprised at this phrasing about his PhD in Wikipedia. which mentions that “he worked toward his Ph.D.” but not that he received one:

University of Cambridge, where he studied English literature at Clare College. With the assistance of a Ford Foundation Fellowship, he worked toward his Ph.D. in English. While his work in history at Yale had trained him in archival work, Gates’ studies at Clare introduced him to English literature and literary theory.

That sounds so Churchillian, Ward that is. I guess race has its priveleges when it comes to being legitimate.
