Good Dog? Conservatives Within Obama's Own Party Snarling Health Plan ("Blue Dog" Democrats)
ABC News ^ | July 25, 2009 | John Hendren

Posted on 07/25/2009 5:21:04 PM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

Rep. Mike Ross's phone won't stop ringing.

Conservative commentator Rush Limbaugh has fans calling to thank the Democrat for stalling health care reform. Angry liberals -- some prompted by MSNBC's Ed Schultz -- call to berate him for the same reason.

So how did an Arkansas pharmacy owner become a major power broker? He's a member of a rare breed -- a "Blue Dog" Democrat.

"We're a group of conservative, common-sense Democrats that feel like we have been choked blue by the extremes of both parties," Ross, D-Ark., chairman of the Blue Dog Coalition's Health Care Task Force, told ABC News.

President Obama knew he'd have trouble with Republicans when it came to approving his health care reform plan. But it is the 52 Blue Dog Democrats -- led by Ross -- who now threaten to block his health care reform plan. Their main objection is its $1.75 trillion-dollar price tag.

"There are some within our party that think that we're not real Democrats or that we're obstructionists. Nothing could be further from the truth," Ross said. "I would say to them that President Obama, as recently as Tuesday, said the Blue Dog Coalition -- a group of conservative Democrats -- are in fact rightfully raising issues about the current house health care reform bill not going far enough at containing health care costs."

What I find hilarious is that White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel is the guy that facilitated getting these "blue dogs" elected in the first place! Priceless!!

Boy, anyone who lives in a state where a Blue Dog Democrat serves needs to make sure they know we are behind them and to continue the resistance. You know the RAT party leaders are going to be pressuring and threatening them with everything they’ve got.

That amount is in Congress froot-poop dollars. The real price tag will probably be that much EVERY YEAR.

Obama and all those pushing his radical agenda are abject marxist ideologues. Their "fundamental; change" is nothing more than a destruction of the American free market and fundamental republican principle.

But they are Democrats and the Democrats do not take well to people such as the Blue dogs. They are being threatened by Rahm, Pelosi and others that they will lose money for their districts.

This is all BS. Blue Dogs are not conservative.

The ACU ratings for these so-called conservatives average somewhere in the mid 20s. Ross has a lifetime score of 38.

The most RINO liberal republican checks in at the high 40 mark.

Enough said.

C’mon Blue Dogs - you will never fit in with the extreme lefties who control the Democrat Party.

But there would be a sweet home for you as Republicans.

Change your affiliation and get rid of your allegiance to the bitch Pelosi, Waxman, Conyers and the rest of those loonies.

There are plenty of good committee assignments you could have as Republicans.

It will only hurt for a very little while, then you will feel terrific.

I still don’t trust blue-dogs. Republicans are bad enough when they get to Washington. All the bluedogs need is some military base or Gov’t. hospital built in their district, and they’ll sell their soul.

Someone should check this but I believe there is a nod somewhere toward "undocumented" people not eligible.

Which simply means that the intent is to subsequently "document" illegal aliens, i.e. amnesty (which of course would be documented), thus incorporating illegal aliens through legal deceit into the national system.

In other words, this bill, in concert with a subsequent amnesty one, is an end run around the wishes of the American electorate (who overwhelmingly refute amnesty).

This is the way lawyers work, this is the way Rahm Emmanuel works, this is the way Leftists work, and tragically this is what the Council on Foreign Relations, with BO as front man, has planned.

Thank you, someone had to say it. I think it’s great that they’re feeling the heat so much they’ve chose to temporarily buck their private, but too many have begun to idolize them.
If they are so conservative, and have so much common-sense then why don’t joing the Republicans?
More power to them if they can stop 0bamacare.

You’re exactly right, HOWEVER, the Blue Dogs have slowed things down a lot, and in this situation a few days or a week or two can make the difference between the American people winning or losing.

The Blue Dogs are all going to fall in line unless we can get the Republicans to oppose this en mass, and the longer this plays out the more chance there is of that happening.

If the Repubs oppose this, my guess is more than enough Dogs will too.

We're a group of faux conservative, common-sense bureaucratic Democrats

They are there to collect their gov't check, benefits, and pension and reap the reward of kickbacks. They really stand for nothing and this forces them to choose. Typical bureaucrats. They voted for the extreme Peloser and the Styme-useless.

I'm with you, this guy calling themselves a bunch of conservative dimwits is just BS. They are not conservative, the proof of that pudding is that they want health care passed, they just don't want THIS health care passed. I would imagine that is because the voters are skinning them alive with phone calls, emails and faxes.

Yes, some FReepers are falling for this sh** like they did the "cougars". Once a liberal always a liberal, until a huge epiphany whaps you along side your head. Some of them might eventually become conservative but none of them are now.
