With polls showing a drop in Barack Obama's job rating and sinking support for the Democrats' health care plans, there is evidence of collateral damage where you might not expect to find it, in the standing of Democratic governors. Pennsylvania's Ed Rendell is suddenly getting negative job ratings in both the Quinnipiac and the Franklin and Marshall polls -- his lowest marks in seven years as governor. Ohio's Ted Strickland, who has spent most of his first term working amicably with Republican legislators, scores under 50 percent in the latest Quinnipiac poll and has only tenuous leads over two Republicans, John Kasich and Mike DeWine, who may run against him next year.
In the two governor races being contested this year, Republicans seem to have an advantage. Republican Bob McDonnell has led Democrat Creigh Deeds in all but one poll and picked up the support of Black Entertainment Television billionaire Sheila Johnson, one of the biggest contributors to the incumbent, Democratic National Chairman Tim Kaine. New Jersey incumbent Jon Corzine, who spent more than $100 million on narrow wins for senator in 2000 and governor in 2005, is 15 points behind Republican Chris Christie. Corzine will not be helped by the indictment of multiple Jersey pols, most of them Democrats, in a case initiated by Christie when he was U.S. attorney.
There's an argument that these results hold little relevance to the standing of the national parties. Almost every state faces severe fiscal problems, and standoffs between a governor and a legislature can drag the governor's ratings way down, as in the case of California's Arnold Schwarzenegger. Moreover, a governor's personal strengths and weaknesses can override party identification; one of the nation's highest-rated governors is Dave Freudenthal, a Democrat in very Republican Wyoming.

Haley Barbour said the revival of the GOP lies in GOP Governors providing leadership on the important issues of the day. If we can win Governors in the Rust Belt, then we will have an opportunity to revive the brand.

You heard it here first folks, I'm predicting the Dems lose 50 seats and the GOP picks up most, but not all of them. I'm thinkin' 3rd parties will have a shot...a decent shot...in many districts.
Seems every election I read on FR about how a Republican is surging ahead in NJ and every election the Republican loses. Wonder how that is?

If 3rd parties have a shot then the Dem will retain the seat as has happened so many times.

The more successful Republican govs we have, the more choices we have for Presidential nominees. And the govs have a lot of influence over whether ACORN vote fraud gets vigorously prosecuted.

And if we don't look at that very real threat soon, we won't win one race next time. They are stealing our democracy and we just play around the edges of the issue. They need to be stopped!
2008 would have been a good time for the DOJ to take a firm stand against the ACORN racist activists, but...
We need to all get to work. I’m 100% positive that they are already adding fraudulent registrations to the rolls in NJ or wherever they feel they’re needed.
When it comes to a PA race, I’m going to volunteer to help validate registrations, work polls, whatever I can.
We’re about to lose it people and this is the only place we have to try to hold onto freedom, the ballot box.
In Phila, vote fraud has been honed to perfection. I worked as a poll watcher in a mayoral race a couple of years back; my Democratic counterpart explained it this way: “At around 7:00, the wards will look at the numbers coming in to see how many votes they need; then they will put people on buses to achieve the desired result”. As disgusted as I was by this, I believed him. It’s weird, but I always thought that the 2006 Congressional elections were just a trial run for 2008.
And Fast Eddie, our own Gov. X, wants early voting here - gee, I wonder why?
Where oh where can he find solace?
