I have seen a lot of those encampments on the south shore of Oahu...the residents mostly seem Hawaiian. Where would they go?

“NYC Buying One-Way Tickets for Homeless to Leave City “

If they’re homeless, WHERE DO THEY MAIL THE CHECK?!?!?!

Absolute insanity and abuse of taxpayers’ dollars. Incredible!

Too late for Hawaii. Oahu has been a cesspit of druggies, bums, and violently crazy people since the 1970s.

wasn’t there a town in Florida that was doing this until the Feds stepped in and stopped them?

We should do the same thing for people who want European-style national socialist healthcare.

This not only saves big money, but it is humane as well. If New York doesn't get enough takers, they would be money ahead by sweetening the pot with a small bribe, say $1000 or so to be wired to the destination.

My sister was in Houston after Katrina when nobody but the most ambitious (who were among the first to leave anyway) wanted to leave the Astrodome.

Bill White's administration came up with the bright idea of offering one-way airline tickets and bus shuttles from the shelters to the airports for a limited time to any takers. The airlines, who were really hurting for business, offered the city deeply discounted fares and sent ticketing agents to the shelter areas to expedite the process.

Sis said it was the best money the city ever spent, she just wishes they would have gotten more. I'm sure all the places on the receiving end had different opinions, but there were at least some success stories. I recall reading about one black guy who was a crackerjack Cajun style cook who moved his entire family to a small town in Montana which lacked a decent eatery. One of the local greasy spoon places hired him and went upscale.

There are a lot of people in America that could use a one way ticket back to where they came from.

Could we start with the hipster/bohemian/trustafarian transplants that have infested much of Brooklyn for the past 15 years? Many of these fools have the nerve to PANHANDLE when mommy and daddy stop sending them the checks to play "artist" in NYC. After Bloomie sends the homeless to Puerto Rico/Florida/Pennsylvania, he can then send the hipsters back to their parents in Denver, Orange County, and Columbus.

The traditional destination for deported homeless/welfare families/ex-cons from the NYC area has been Pennsylvania, especially the Lehigh Valley (Allentown, Reading, etc.). They were sending them upstate to Glens Falls and Utica, but the Governor stopped that.

One problem with this proposal is that, once the word got out (and it would travel at LIGHT SPEED!) the grifters and moochers would descend on NYC like the locusts on Pharoah’s harvest fields to get their $1000 and the free ticket back home.

Also, see Instapundit’s comment:
http://pajamasmedia.com/instapundit/82691/

THEY USED TO CALL THIS “GREYHOUND THERAPY” — City Aids Homeless With One-Way Tickets Home — and when Houston did it it was proof of uncaring degeneracy. Now that New York is doing it, it’s progressive!

And now that part of the state is in serious decline, with major urban decay!

. . . the grifters and moochers would descend on NYC like the locusts on Pharoah’s harvest fields to get their $1000 and the free ticket back home.

The grifters and moochers have already descended on NYC and nearly every other major city in America to get tax funded health care, housing and a cornucopia of other bennies-- most costing well more than $1000.
