I spent my time as a member of 2Bn/10th SFG(A) on Ft Carson. Compared to many other military towns in the US, Colorado Springs is liberal.

On post, training was stifled by civilian eco-freaks to the point that we couldn't even conduct airborne operations in the training area when it started raining.

Range regulations were so restrictive that our unit often went to Camp Guernsey in Wyoming to conduct realistic training.

Off post I ran in to some of the most anti-military people (especially on B Street) I could imagine. Not only was it difficult for military personnel to rent a decent home, but most landlords absolutely despised pets.

When I retired in '99, I left Colorado as fast as I could.

Side note to "cookcounty"- the only bar I spent time in was at the Doubletree Hotel. I wasn't impressed.
