“Not a gaffe in my opinion.”

Yes, Barry makes enough real ones, but this wan’t one of them.

The Filipinos will like the boxing analogy, since they are most proud of Manny Pacquiao, the current pound-for-pound boxing king.

I am no fan of W on a lot of things.

I will say this. Just like the USA, there was no shortage of bookstores in Japan carrying Japanese books making fun of W and his quotes, or his flubs, with comic photos. The Japanese were told far and wide the guy was an idiot and a doofus with words.

Then the Obama phenomenon, and all the stores have now (except that it is finally changing somewhat) are texts on how to improve your English listening to Obama speeches, or Obama is great this, Obama is great that, one can really see a double standard. The press would be LIVID over such an insult to the Philippines as former Senator Obama has made the other day.

What is really disgusting (and I will have to scroll down to see if anyone else caught it), but it was as much an insult to the Philippines as it was a personal insult to President ARROYO HERSELF.

Because she is one of the shortest chief executives of the world, it really stands out when she lines up at summit meetings. She is pretty good natured about it, but it shows Obama to be a real jackass without an inkling of diplomacy nor tact. What an absolute as*hat. When is he going to insult an ENEMY for once!!?? /sarc

I can see the American press’s reasoning, but what dog does/did Japan have in this fight?

Most Japanese want to shake up and "change" Japanese politics (many aspects of it), but they are more or less set in their ways and just put up with the same old same old, erring on the side of no-risk taking. Then they see Americans boldly elect a new guy, taking such a "change", which they themselves could never do. So Obama represents to many Japanese (without them thinking deeply about his policies and his many personal errors) the possibility of change through people power. Their media tells them to admire this trait about Americans and their votes and boldness, and so, well, they admire it. Obama just happens to be the beneficiary.

But not for long.

Failures in dealing with North Korea have woken a lot of Japanese up.

So W was the beneficiary in 2000? Or did their media fall at the feet of the Dems even then.

Pardon my disagreement but isn’t it possible he meant that as a compliment. A reference to a boxer that hits above his weight class is usually positive, not critical.

Press here in Tokyo was generally neutral, if not slightly favorable to W in 2000, yes.

By the way, here is that idiot condescendingly insulting both countries and their leaders personally:

I doubt that is happiness behind President Arroyo's smile despite such a foolish crack by Obama. I swear, this guy is losing it. First Cambridge Police, now the whole nation of the Philippines! He really steps in the verbal Dalmation poop, doesnt he?

I emailed this story to a Filipina friend of mine earlier, today. She emailed a reply that cannot be said here. Let’s just say she is not PC in the least and doesn’t know the meaning of discrimination.

Aloha Diehard!

It's so Indonesian of Duham/Soetoro/Obama to make disparaging remarks of a Christian Asian nation that has been our most supportive ally in the SE Asia region.

Indonesia was once Buddhist , Hindu and Christian, now it's Muslim. The same can be said of the Malays once....but no longer. Inroads were once trade routes, now as you said, they're policy detours. Christ on a Raft, Andy....we've a problem here.

But he's just so damn arrogant he doesn't realize just how over his head is & he actually believes he can wing it without doing his homework.

It's bizarre - like he has NO concept of his limitations whatsoever.

There are people in the world like that, but generally they've grown out of it by the time they're in their late twenties.

That’s where I’m headed, and no, I’m not married to a Filipina. Mrs.2ndDivisionVet is from Philly.

Indeed, like the old days when PM Ozawa had to line up for the summit photo ops. Imagine the MSM/Pravda uproar if Arroyo had made a comment about Obama’s scrawny physique, or Michelle’s size (which she’s probably very self-conscious about)?

Christianity is the main religion in the Philipines. Most are Roman Catholics.

Yup. But they also have a muslim population. It's a source stubborn fanatical vicious and fighters.

That's why we developed the Model 1911 Colt .45

They'd get so hopped up on drugs and jihad that they would cheerfully absorb all 6 rounds from the service .38 and shred the American soldier shooting them to doll rags before going off to that whorehouse-in-the-sky they call heaven.
