Town halls gone wild

Screaming constituents, protesters dragged out by the cops, congressmen fearful for their safety — welcome to the new town-hall-style meeting, the once-staid forum that is rapidly turning into a house of horrors for members of Congress.

On the eve of the August recess, members are reporting meetings that have gone terribly awry, marked by angry, sign-carrying mobs and disruptive behavior. In at least one case, a congressman has stopped holding town hall events because the situation has spiraled so far out of control.

“I had felt they would be pointless,” Rep. Tim Bishop (D-N.Y.) told POLITICO, referring to his recent decision to suspend the events in his Long Island district. “There is no point in meeting with my constituents and [to] listen to them and have them listen to you if what is basically an unruly mob prevents you from having an intelligent conversation.”

“In every stage of these Oppressions We have Petitioned for Redress in the most humble terms: Our repeated Petitions have been answered only by repeated injury. A Prince whose character is thus marked by every act which may define a Tyrant, is unfit to be the ruler of a free people.”

Declaration of Independence. July 4, 1776.

Translation from liberal speak to english;
I refuse to hear what the people say because I am a liberal elitist and know whats best for them even if it hurts them.

Translation: "The demands of the President and my Party's leaders conflict with the demands of my constituents and I am such a spineless, power-hungry individual that I do not want to explain to my constituents that I would rather keep my power and position than do the job they elected me to do. Therefore I will accuse them of being unintelligent and refuse to meet with them."

He simply should have utilized this time-honored line: "Let them eat cake."

They have not even officially went on break yet.

I think that they are making this crap up early to avoid having to answer to anybody.

CNN is using Saul Alinsky like tactics.

Last night Fox News froze as well as several other channels and the only news I could watch was CNN.
No joke! I was shocked.

CNN has a ‘Wingnut’ Analyst that last night called all ‘birthers’ ‘truthers’ and people saying granny and mommy will die under 0bama’s health care are as nuts as the ‘birthers’ and ‘truthers.’ CNN presented ObamaCare as the next best thing to milk and cookies all awhile never reporting 0bama’s failures or horrible approval numbers plummeting.

Furthermore, the MSM will paint all protesters voters against ObamaCare as “WINGNUTS.”

It is frightening the MSM are working for 0bama but it won’t work anymore. People are sick of it and see through it all!

The assholes have yet to acknowledge that the folks do not like what they are doing.

People are angry out there, that should give these clowns a clue.

I think he may be trying to define some sort of difference between, on the one hand, his "constituents" and, on the other hand, "the mob".

Does he know that they are one and the same?

How convenient for them to say that town hall gatherings are now “dangerous”. How convenient.

Very well stated.

Yes, exactly and don’t forget to add to this that they will paint all protesters (some even ticked off at 0bama democrats) as WINGNUTS. That is their new ‘cue word.’

If, they weren’t such lying scum buckers; just maybe the voters wouldn’t be mad.

The targets in most cases are House Democrats, who over the past few months have tackled controversial legislation including a $787 billion economic stimulus package, a landmark energy proposal and an overhaul of the nation’s health care system.

And if you read all of the story, you'll find that they are trying to run away from their pissed-off constituents, find creative ways of shutting them up, or else siccing the cops on them.

I saw the Tim Bishop town hall. He was totally outclassed by his constituency, but it was not “an unruly mob”. The only thing preventing him from having an “intelligent conversation” was his obvious lack of intelligence.

Regards,

These clowns won’t get it until 2010, and then they still won’t get it. I think the 2010 midterm elections are going to be bloodbath for those that think they know better than We The People.

Just because they are not going to have town hall meetings now they sealed their fate in being voted out of office so they better enjoy their island beach houses while they can.
