Don't Mess With Texas (or Oklahoma)
Cleveland Conservative Examiner ^ | Dave Roman

Posted on 07/31/2009 6:55:46 PM PDT by NoobRep

Recently I received an email from a member of a Tea Party group. The heading was "Oklahoma May Just Be The Place To Live". Why? Here are some of the reasons listed.

Oklahoma passed a bill, HR 1330, that allowed them to place the 10 Commandments on the front entrance to the state capitol. It is being done with private money and the ACLU is upset.

Oklahoma passed HB 1804 which requires all illegal immigrants to be incarcerated and ship them back where they came from unless they get a green card and become an American citizen.

HJR 1003 was passed by Oklahoma which declares Oklahoma as a sovereign state, not under the control of Federal Government directives. They rightly stated that the Federal Government was created as an agency of the states, not the other way around.

I verified all these bills. They are legitimate. You may not agree, but too many people look to the Feds to do everything when in reality their powers were defined and limited.

Where does Texas come in? Some of the latest news show that Governor Perry does not want the Presidents healthcare. He also made a statement about seceding from the union. I don't know if he was serious, but he was reflecting the mindset of many Texas voters. They also are working on a States Rights resolution.

It reminded me of the time in 1976 when I went to the Republican Convention as a TV reporter for a local TV station. Conventions are always exciting and always fun. Texas didn't disappoint!

If you remember, Governor Reagan was challenging then President Ford for the Republican nomination. Ford had the convention sown up. The chairman called the roll call of states to allow them to cast their votes. The roll call was in alphabetic order.

By the time the roll call got to Texas, President Ford had enough delegate votes to be nominated. The Texas delegation was disappointed and frustrated. The chairman asked "How does the delegation from the great state of Texas cast their vote?" The chairman of the Texas delegation proudly announced a unanimous vote for Roger Staubach! As you may know, Roger was the quarterback of the Dallas Cowboys!

Don't mess with Texas!

Wow Oklahoma is really doing the right thing. You can start to see how this deal is going to shake out. The new United States is going to basically be the entire middle of the country and Southeast, with a few Western states thrown in. And Alaska of course.

We will soon have a Republican Governor as the RAT Doofus is term limited. Even he had to sign some of these bills because we had the votes to override him in the OK legislature. The Obama lover is not a happy camper because he is a trial attorney who became Governor thanks to an Indy in the 2002 Governor election. Doofus helped usher in the first time in history that Republicans control the Oklahoma legislature and every county went for Bush in 2004 and McCain in 2008 with ZERO only getting 34% of the vote.

Henry was an early support of ZERO and convinced him to open two offices in OK because he had a chance. Some chance — got 34% of the vote and lost every county.

How about this:

Actually, we formally invite Oklahoma to join Texas in our secession. The Republic of Texoma has a nice ring, no? Just think of it as a football powerhouse.

And just when you think thing are going OK here in Texas, guess who wants to mess it up? KBH. My fellow Texans better be careful or we will have KBH’s Washington style as gov here in Texas.

I absolutely love Oklahoma cracking down on illegals. Outstanding. Other states need to follow suit.

devane617,
Take a good hard look at Debra Medina. I think she is the real deal.
I’m going to give her platform a hard look. She loves guns, and hates washington.

Since the bills passed, the illegals have listed our state as one to avoid. The immediate exodus from OK by illegals was noticeable. Last time I was in the Urgent Care Clinic on a Sunday, didn’t see anyone but people with insurance. Before the bill was passed, you would see a lot of non-insured Mexicans.

Have talked to some legal immigrants who are delighted the illegals are boycotting Oklahoma because they were giving them a bad name.

Yep, that HB 1804 Illegal Immigration bill really wrapped things up around here... :-)

Here’s one FReeper article I found...

You could actually see the “south-of-the-border people” disappear, in short order after this bill. You used to see a whole lot, and then... they were gone... just like that...

Obama and his minions are not happy with the Great State of Oklahoma. We passed a ballot initiative to make English the official language of state government and for some reason the feds singled us out.

Oklahoma’s Governor Signs Immigration Legislation
Written by Mary Benoit
Wednesday, 09 May 2007 00:00

A controversial bill that takes a tough stance on illegal immigration was signed by the governor of Oklahoma on Tuesday, May 8.

Governor Brad Henry of Oklahoma signed House Bill 1804 into law on Tuesday (May 8). The anti-illegal immigration bill, introduced by state representative Randy Terrill (R-Moore), has been referred to as “the toughest immigration bill in the nation.”

H.B. 1804 was passed by the House in March by a vote of 84-14, and then by the Senate in April by a vote of 41-6. The bill, scheduled to go into effect on November 1, 2007, will:

• require employers to verify the residency of new employees
• require local and state law enforcement agencies to detain illegal immigrants
• require proof of citizenship prior to obtaining a state identification
• deny government benefits such has health care and welfare programs to illegal immigrants, with the exception of a emergency or humanitarian needs

The signing of H.B. 1804 has caused an uproar throughout Oklahoma’s Hispanic community, claiming that the bill will cause them to be discriminated against by employers and law enforcement officers. Opponents of the bill have gone as far as comparing Governor Henry to Adolf Hitler, and the bill to German death camps (click here, and read the comments posted on the page provided). Governor Henry has asked that the federal government also take action on this issue by enacting a comprehensive, national immigration policy.

Oklahoma Implements Toughest US Measures Against Illegal Immigrants
By Greg Flakus
05 November 2007

The state of Oklahoma has begun implementing a new law that is described as the toughest in the nation against illegal immigrants. Supporters of the law say it will reduce crime and curb use of taxpayer funded services by people who have no right to be in the United States. But Latino groups, joined by civil rights groups and churches say the new law is fostering discrimination. VOA’s Greg Flakus has more in this report from Houston.

The new law makes it illegal to hire, transport or house an illegal immigrant and authorizes police in Oklahoma to assist federal immigration authorities in enforcing U.S. immigration law. The law also denies state services to undocumented aliens and imposes penalties on employers who hire them.

The sponsor of state legislative bill 1804, State Representative Randy Terrill, a Republican from Moore, Oklahoma, says the new law will save the state money and help fight crime and potential terrorist threats.

“Having 12 to 20 million illegal aliens and we don’t have a clue as to who they are and what they are doing, it is clearly a national security threat. In addition to that, it contributes to all sorts of other problems like crime and gangs and drugs and narco-trafficking,” said Terrill. “Even our Bureau of Narcotics here in Oklahoma estimates that something in excess of 40 percent of the drug trafficking through Oklahoma is directly attributable to our illegal alien problem.”

But civil rights organizations, churches and Hispanic groups have challenged the new law, claiming it will lead to discrimination against Latinos, foreigners, and anyone with dark skin. A federal judge rejected a suit filed by a Hispanic clergy group, letting the law to go into effect November first, but various groups are supporting further challenges to the law.

Patricia Fennell, executive director of the Latino Community Development Agency, a private non-profit organization in Oklahoma City, says some area businesses are seeing the effect of immigrants leaving the state because of the new law.

“We are getting calls now from employers who are having openings that they cannot fill. For instance, in construction, subcontractors are saying they have lost 25 to 50 percent of our workforce and we cannot meet contract deadlines,” said Fennell.

Randy Terrill dismisses the notion that Oklahoma will suffer a worker shortage if the state drives out illegal workers. He also rejects the idea that the law he sponsored targets Latinos or any other group for discriminatory treatment.

“We do not care what your skin color is or whether or not you speak with an accent or even what your last name is,” said Terrill. “What we do care about is whether or not you are in this country legally or illegally. So the only people who have anything to be concerned about under House Bill 1804 are those folks who have voluntarily made the decision to violate the law by either coming here or remaining here in violation of federal immigration law.”

But Patricia Fennell says the effect of the new law is evident in the way it is being applied already by police, employers and landlords.

“We are going to be monitoring the implementation of the law because we already see cases where profiling is occurring, where discriminatory actions are being taken, for instance in apartment complexes where only Latinos are being asked for proof of citizenship and that is something that should not occur,” said Fennell.

Implementation of the new law in Oklahoma is also being watched closely by other states where illegal immigration has had an impact. Lawmakers in Utah say they are going to pattern new legislation there on the Oklahoma law. There have been 182 immigration-related laws passed in 43 states this year.

In some cases involving local community laws against illegal aliens, federal courts have stopped implementation based on the principle that immigration is a federal matter.

But many state and local government representatives argue that until the federal government fulfills its obligation to secure the border, they have a right to make and enforce their own laws. The legal clash over these positions could help make immigration an even bigger issue in next year’s U.S. presidential election.

Polls had her 10 points down on 07/16. I thought she would back out as she has in the past and keep her cushy job on DC, but when she announced her resignation and fired her manager it told me she was serious. Honestly, I think she is making a big mistake because she is fairly well liked here in Texas, but she has already started slinging mud, and people in this state will not stand for it. She can only look forward to a huge stain on her career as it comes to an end. Texas is prosperous, and has done much better than most other states. I like RP, and as far as I am concerned he has carried out a conservative agenda. I see no need to change—especially if it includes KBH.

Actually, we formally invite Oklahoma to join Texas in our secession.

Not me. Nothing against Okies but the argument is much stronger for Texas as a former Republic than it would be if there were other states involved. If other states pile on then Washington is apt to turn this into another civil war and we won't have the military muscle to win.

If it is only one state, we can convince them that we're no different than the breakaway republics of the Soviet Union, looking for independence and autonomy. It would be hypocritical, then, for America to tell their "breakaway republics" that they can't leave.

There's a good stretegy for Texas to leave but only if they are acting independently. If other states hop on, the whole concept will be ruined.

After our independence is won, we can talk about adding on other territories.
