About 100 Iranian activists and political moderates went on trial Saturday to face charges related to massive protests following the controversial presidential election.

The semi-official Fars news agency published images of defendants sitting in a packed Tehran courtroom, some handcuffed in pairs.

The IRNA news agency says the detainees are accused of conspiring against the ruling system, among other charges.

Reports say some leading political figures on trial have retracted their claims that the June vote was rigged - the main rallying point of opposition demonstrators.

Confession are of course extracted by torture and beatings.

Pray for the defendants in this Kangaroo Court.

Damn, how frightened and sad I am for these people

In any other time we would have a freedom loving POTUS who would speak out and condemn the mullet head for being the barbaric scum of the earth that they are.

What the hell is the matter with some people in this Country that they haven't yet realized the mistake that was made electing this enemy of the US?

I just don't get it sometimes, damn.

So.. if they're on trial then they haven't been tortured and killed?

But Twitter says.. oh, it's SO confusing!

Okay, I’ll say it. I think the Iranian officials are behaving stupidly.

They had to keep some around for the show so the world can see how kind a benevolent the mullahs really are.

What's most frightening is watching those who fall for it, then defend it.

They were obviously tortured and beaten, but the ones on trial who are well known were not killed.

Do you have something against Twitter or Iranians?

Just because they are on "trial" in Iran, doesn't mean that they weren't tortured.

I hope this isn’t a picture of our future, but I am afraid it is - this and the books “1984” and “Brave New World” and the Biblical accounts of the Man Of Sin.

It’s very simple. A certain percent of the people are black, so they will vote for a black candidate no matter what. The other minorities (Latino) will also vote for him, because they sympathize with the minority status thing. Then there are the poor and unemployed who will vote for anyone other than the sitting president/party. Finaly you have the liberal coalition - the tree huggers, the loonies, the gays, the nonalligned, etc. - they voted for him. Total it up, and they had enough votes to outvote the other side. The GOP had better ramp up the voter registration campaigns, or its over in 2010.

Yeah, Twitter is a chat site.

Anyone can write anything.

Only a fool would accept a Twitter account as valid.

After the crazies I saw during the Bush/Gore Presidential campaign. I was hoping some of them would have been in jail even today. They were disgusting to even consider protesting Bush. These guys who are on trial in Iran should be put in jail for life too, but being that the protesters in America got away with it, I suppose it is only fair that these wacko Iranians get away with it too. Liberals will destroy the Earth.

For the skeptic here is a very good video by Congressman McCotter made on the floor of the U.S. House of Representatives.

U.S. Congressman McCotter made a statement to that effect on the House floor this past week and it was a powerful statement. I totally agreed with him.

First Twitter is not a “site” but a message system.

And yes there are kiddies chatting on it. Yes there are youth in Iran risking their lives to send information out of a country that is total media blackout.

Until this event I would have had NO interest in Twitter at all.

I have made a number of “friends” over there and truly am concerned for their safety.

If that makes me a “fool” then so be it. And since I am approaching 62 I guess that would qualify me for being an “old fool”.

Wow, talk about a dose of reality.

I wonder if we've reached the point where the takers outnumber the givers yet?

Short of a total collapse, which in my opinion is right around the corner and is not going to be pretty, I don't see us taking this country back. From there we have lots of rebuilding and reclaiming to do to prevent this from happening again in the near future.

Just posted this:

Iran’s arrested activists find champion in lilac tweed

Her name is Shirin Ebadi, who won a Nobel prize for her human rights work in Iran and is now on a mission to garner support for prisoners held in her country.

These guys who are on trial in Iran should be put in jail for life too,

You find a moral equivalence to those who risk their lives for freedom in Iran and the liberal idiots that protested against Cheney and Bush

Should the Founding Father been thrown in jail for life too?

Are you out of your mind?

Don't believe everything you read on Twitter.

It's a simple message and good advice.

Of course they have.

The progression is:
1. Arrest
2. Rape and humiliate
3. Brutal physical violence to obtain false confessions
4. Death from abuse or signed confessions.
5. Dead often thrown into the desert or dumped at home doorstep.
6. Kangaroo clerical courts which trot out the confessions.
7. Lawyers usually banned from restricted trials or not permitted to present a defense.
8. Harsh sentences at best EXECUTION most likely.
9. Mass hangings.
10. Some returned to prisons to serve sentences and continue to be tortured. (In any event you do not want to be a female prisoner or a young male).
11. Selection of one or more of the prisoners to be infiltrated into the West, preferably to the USA.
12. Chosen person like Akbar Ganji, Amir Abbas Fakhravar, even sadly brain damaged in prison, Ahmad Batebi, a genuine opposition student in the past, appear to be abused in prison, receive health furloughs and are then “spirited” with the blind eye of help of the Mala regime, into the West and then become spies and agents.

Their families are held hostage inside Iran.

Each of the infiltrated people were prepared with an exact same formula.

A similar case was Mohammad Mohamadi, whose brother died under duress in Evin prison which made him a perfect infilration candidate without any need to prepare a hardship/torture background for him.
