NRA can’t halt Sotomayor’s march to court Gun-rights group still forces senators to consider if ‘yes’ vote will hurt

Supreme Court nominee Sonia Sotomayor is expected to easily win confirmation in a vote this coming week.

WASHINGTON - The National Rifle Association's threat to punish senators who vote for Supreme Court nominee Sonia Sotomayorhas been met with a shrug by Democrats from conservative-leaning states and some Republicans who are breaking with their party to support her.

The gun-rights group is used to getting its way by spooking lawmakers about the political consequences of defying its wishes. But it never before has weighed in on a Supreme Court confirmation battle. It was cautious about breaking that pattern, and it looks like a losing fight to defeat President Barack Obama's first pick for the court.

Sotomayor is expected to easily win confirmation in a vote this coming week that could deflate the long-accepted truism in Washington that you don't cross the NRA.

The NRA needs to fight the same way it did in 1994.

Her appointment does open the Court up to the potential of some really stupidly written decisions of the kind that may have “unintended consequences”.
On the bright side, the net is we see which Dems the left thinks are most vulnerable as they will be permitted to vote against her and which Republicans sell out to let them off the hook.

Now that brain-dead Senator Alexander is voting for her, it’s a done deal. Republicans are beyond pathetic.

If that sissy Lindsey Graham had voted against her in the committee, her nomination would already be dead, and Obambi would already be a lame duck. But no, the little limp d!ck had to vote for her, and now we will be stuck with her for at least a decade.

Lindsey Graham is target number one for me. I am going to spend a BUNCH of money in both the primary and general (even if it means electing a Dem) to make sure that piece of sh!t is sent home for good.

“The NRA has become a toothless tiger.”
Not at all. If you’ve been paying attention, all of the Congress Critters are ignoring public outcry and doing their own thing. They need to be sent packing, all of them.

Lindsey Graham votes liberal when it counts. If he has a right bone in his body you wouldn't ever know, he saves his conservative votes for times when no backbone is required.

He actually used the line used by all leftist legal usurpers when they have no true justification for any nominee they accept or reject to the Supreme or Federal Courts. "She is well within the mainstream of modern legal thought."....Translation, she is a liberal who will never give a thought at undoing any of the illegal lawmaking done by leftist activist judges for fifty years or more.

The same reinvention of the Constitution by the far left judicial activists since the Warren Court will never be rolled back (as they should if we were not an oligarchy of the left) because too many weaklings like Lindsey Graham still do not understand how extensively they were lied to in law school.

Lindsey Graham does seem to care that pure leftist politics is the real reason why the far left was threatened by Robert Bork, but saw no problem with anti-Constitution radicals such as Ruth Bader Ginsburg, John Paul Stevens, David Souter, etc. and the new quota-hire Sonia Sotomayor

I don’t know what they’ve been telling Senators behind the scenes, but it looks to me as if the NRA waited until it was too late.

They should have warned Lindsay Graham, for one, that they would work against him in the next election unless he opposed her. BEFORE he announced his support.

Too much hesitation, too much wavering. It’s a bit late to start speaking out now.
