Henry Louis Gates Jr. said Sgt. Crowley looked "so relieved" when he shook his hand, and the two were able to find humor in the media frenzy unleashed by his arrest.
Gates said he and Crowley discussed meeting again privately -- either going to lunch or taking in a Boston Red Sox or Celtics game -- or having their two families go out to dinner together.
"I offered to get his kids into Harvard if he doesn't arrest me again," he said, drawing loud laughter from the audience.

Considering Gates past well known political sentiments one wonders if this whole episode was a manipulated stunt on his part for public exposure & to garners some “oppressed minority folk” credentials.
How about you just say that if his kids score the same on an entrance test as a "minority", preference won't be shown to the "minority"?

After reading the Gates interview by Brian Lamb, my feelings about him have changed somewhat. He isn’t nearly as bad on racial issues as others in academia. I HOPE he continues to back down.

Yes, Gates is a raving race pimp, but if he and the officer get along and laugh their asses off about how silly ‘serious’ people are in this country today, let ‘em. I would likely make an ass of myself if this happened to me on a bad day, and I wish I lived in a time where state intrusion onto my property was something taken a little more seriously. I should get to be an ass on a bad day on my property without being arrested, regardless of my color. Gates gets to be a race baiter in a free country and we get to decide if it matters to us or not— in that mythical free country.
