NEW VIDEO: Gates Says He Likes Crowley, Jokes About Arrest
Real Clear Politics ^ | August 2, 2009 | Real Clear Politics

Henry Louis Gates Jr. said Sgt. Crowley looked "so relieved" when he shook his hand, and the two were able to find humor in the media frenzy unleashed by his arrest.

Gates said he and Crowley discussed meeting again privately -- either going to lunch or taking in a Boston Red Sox or Celtics game -- or having their two families go out to dinner together.

"I offered to get his kids into Harvard if he doesn't arrest me again," he said, drawing loud laughter from the audience.

democrats has many LE management and LE union leaders on their side before

LEO membership does not forget things like this - and it creates more hostility in their dangerous daily jobs

Guess so. You live in the north and I live in a more conservative, non union area of Texas. It’s natural that we see and hear people talking and acting in different ways.

Well, Gates did make some gestures that make him look better in the public eye. We all know that people don’t easily change their private perception of things. He feels the same inside but may hide it more for awhile.

Count me as the odd-one-out here, but I think the professor seems genuine in his comments. Will he drop the lawsuit, though? And what about that article his daughter wrote?

“Anyone that has not noticied that 1/2 of TV ads have a black spokeperson in them (with only 11% of US population) - few orientals, few hispanics, no American Indians
This just since early this year”

I have noticed that, but I disagree with your time frame - for instance, for the past 5+ yrs, if one watched only McDonald’s ads, one would conclude that well over 50% of the US population is non-white.

And it’s a bit off topic, so don’t even get me started about the way the ads treat white males.

.

Obama and Gates may think that this will blow over yet still get them huge benefits

But the guys out there on the job tonight will not forget or forgive as they face more than students or a pliable media

Gates and Obama want the old 60s in your face attitudes back - completely blind to the damage they have done and continue to do in polls and in future elections

Two things seniors will not abide:

Cutting Medicare and their healthcare quality and options

Problems with crime

Yup

White males in TV ads are treated like idiots by the wives and kiddies in the ads

Why?

Ad agencies and networks have a mucho-high SNL/”Pat” or “Barney” percentage

The NYT is about 75% in editors and management and writing staff

Boy, oh boy, the good professor really wants to put this behind him. I think too much of his intelligence to believe that he was so enraged that he couldn’t stop himself from following Sgt. Crowley out the front door and continuing to belabor him even after he was politely warned.

Nosiree, Gates made a snap decision that this was his golden opportunity to up his celebrity quotient and give himself some street cred. He was sure on a roll for the first few days after the incident, appearing on Oprah, threatening a lawsuit against the Cambridge Police Dept., and announcing a documentary about racial profiling.

I’m betting that Obama’s turning this into a national issue and focusing the country’s attention on it made Gates a laughingstock among his peers. I don’t think anyone who actually knows him was fooled for a minute. I’m guessing he gets snickered at a dozen times a day in the faculty lounges, lecture halls and five-star restaurants he frequents. I think he just wishes this whole thing could blow over and be forgotten. Unfortunately, he’s dyanamited his reputation as a serious scholar.

Just as The One has dynamited his image as the “clean, articulate” non-threatening black man who was going to grant the guilty white voters racial absolution...

Of course because Gates feels guilty. Gates knows he is full of it.

"Please correct me if I am wrong."

In order for Obama to be an octoroon he would have to have one white parent and one parent who was a quadroon, or a person who was only one quarter black. A quadroon has three grandparents who are white and one black grandparent. I think that it is unlikely that was the case with Barack Obama Sr.

For example, the late Eartha Kitt, who was half black, was married to a white man with whom she had a daughter. I'm pretty sure that her daughter would be considered a quadroon. I think that her granddaugher would be considered an octoroon. These terms tend to shift, but that is my interpretation.

I agree with you but I think Gates dynamited his reputation long before this incident. Just go watch his PBS appearances wherein he like to present himself as some sort of radical that is beyond what he is capable of. Gates is I suppose what one could call a limousine radical.

Of course all manner of clips and episodes from his past have been brought back up, beginning with his 1990 defense of 2LiveCrew’s disgusting “Nasty as They Wanna’ Be” album where he compared them to Shakespeare. Also his right-on , sock it to em’ speeches in the nineties worshipping racial quotas on stage with Cornell West.

However, the country at large was not aware of these happenings or had forgotten them. Those who didn’t know him from Adam now have this indelible image of an obnoxious would-be fist-pumping martyr seared, seared into their memories. He made an absolute ass of himself and he won’t be able to paper this one over.

I guess one could say that whereas he was a not so well known foll prior but is know a more widely known fool. Which is ironic as he was probably hoping this incident would give him more “respectability”. Talk about missing the mark. Though he will still exploit it for what it’s worth.

The impression I get is that he’s trying to tamp things down and put it behind him.

I really think it’s not working out for him as he expected.

Gates isn’t so bright since he didn’t figure someone would dig out the scams he’s running with ‘non-profit funds’.
