If America elects a woman president soon, right now her name appears to be Hillary Clinton.
In a hypothetical match-up between the two most formidable female candidates in their respective parties, Clinton defeats former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin 51% to 39%, according to a new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey of likely U.S. voters. Seven percent (7%) prefer some other candidate.
Clinton performs better against Palin than President Obama who in a hypothetical 2012 match-up beats last years GOP vice presidential nominee by just six points, 48% to 42%.
Women overwhelmingly favor Clinton over Palin, 59% to 32%. Men favor the GOP ex-governor by eight points, 48% to 40%.
Palin gets 71% of the Republican vote, while Clinton captures 81% of Democrats. Voters not affiliated with either party break down almost evenly between the two candidates, giving Clinton a slight 44% to 41% edge.

Overall
Clinton 51%
Palin 39%
Obama 48%
Palin 42%
Women
Clinton 59%
Palin 32%
Men
Palin 48%
Clinton 40%
Independents
Clinton 445
Palin 41%
Republicans
Palin 71%
Dims
Clinton 81%
So Palin is doing much better against 0bama than against Clinton. 0bama’s communist agenda is already starting to bite him in the butt.
And Palin is doing much better amongst independents than the media keep propagating.
However, Plain needs to work to do more work to get a heck of a lot higher share of the Republican vote. 71% share of the Republican vote is just not good enough if you wanna beat Zero in 2012.
But hey, it's early days yet. We have over 3 years to go. We all remember them polls that had Hilary already having the Democratic nomination “sewn up”, back in 2007, don't we?
YUCK, it’s a good thing I already ate hours ago or else I might have puked at that photo
The Twilight Zone Returns?
Considering she has not campaigned or even announced she is running for President, this is really good. Rasmussen seems to be a pretty accurate poll so I don’t doubt the poll numbers, maybe they are off by a point or two. But the main issue with women is abortion. My Mom’s friend, who is a Dem, did not like Obama but did not want Sarah Palin in the White House because she said “I don’t want her to take away my right to have an abortion” so far as women are concerned, it’s the abortion issue that tends to sway them away from Sarah Palin. I think Sarah has a MUCH better chance at beating Obama, which is why he keeps on finding people to attack her. I don’t see Hillary running in 2012, she had her chance and blew it
Uh huh. Sure.
“Hilary wont run in 2012 and shell be too old in 2016.”
Don’t count on that. No one has more ambition that she has.
Anything can happen in politics.
Se wouldn’t be the first Sec of State to become president would she?
Big deal. The earliest we could see a Palin-Clinton showdown would be in 2016, if ever.
The Governor doesn't make laws. Congress does. To end abortion we need a Conservative Supreme Court. You think she would not appoint pro-life SCOTUS if given the chance?
This could actually be good news. First, there’s probably some buyer’s remorse in that poll from Obama voters. And when you consider that the state controlled media have already shot their wad when it comes to Palin-bashing, she has nowhere to go but up.
Hillary the paper champion. She aws a world beater at this point in the last cycle.
People are not liking zero’s policies, so they gravitate toward the nearest similar candidate. Makes sense to me.
I can’t pray hard enough for Sarah Palin!
Pretty much.
I have a liberal female friend(I know. I know. What was I thinking?), and her number one gripe against Sarah Palin is “taking away her right to abortion”.
Question is, who needs such a right which allows doctors to kill unborn babies anyway?
Not to mention the President Of the United Stares does not take away rights to anything.
What Sarah can do as president is to stop the Federal Government subsidizing abortions, or pushing a pro-abortion agenda like 0bama is doing, and of course appoint normal human beings to the Supreme court instead of racist, aborting loving pigs like Sotomayor.
“I think Sarah has a MUCH better chance at beating Obama, which is why he keeps on finding people to attack her”
Oh yes.
Nothing else can explain why 0bama’s hatchet men spend 99% of their time and efforts attacking and smearing Sarah.
The little weasel empty suit 0bama is running sacred.
I thought I read about something she did that showed her being rather pragmatic about this - something she had to deal with as governor..... I don’t doubt for a second that she is absolutely against abortion and of course would want to appoint pro-life judges and encourage pro-life policy.
I’ll have to see if I can find what I think I remember regarding this.
You must be thinking about the “parental notification” thing... which reduces the number of abortions, but implies an acceptance of the notion of abortion per se (if melt it down to the core). But as already said... it was not within her power as governor to end abortion.
{As far as women are concerned, it comes down to the abortion issue. That is why Hillary is leading this poll}
With women on the East and West Coasts, definitely.
However, some evangelical women may be turned off by Sarah as well. These Church Ladies feel that Sarah is acting like an improper mother, being in the public spotlight. According to them, Sarah should be a homemaker.
Earlier this year, Palin rejected adding debates over a partial-birth abortion ban and parental consent measure to the special legislative session. While that may have seemed like a rejection of the pro-life position, Palin said legislative leaders have given her no plan for successfully passing the bills.
While she would have preferred to see the bills put into law, she had no guarantee that spending significant amounts of taxpayer funds on the special session would result in a bill that would be sent to her desk to sign.
I think she makes sense. Why spend $ on something likely to lose. There has been no politician since Reagan that I totally supported until Sarah. She is amazing and I hope the rats haven't ruined her for the fight. We desperately need her.
Are there really going to be many democratic voters after 2009? With the rate thigns are deteroiating I can’t imagine that anyone would vote for more of this?
Women are voting for Sarah because she is smart, Conservative & good looking.
Absolutely! :)
