Michigan Penal Colony? AARP Part of Pelosi Plans?

The Obama administration is again pushing plans to move terrorists from the Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, detention facility into the United States, initially to Michigan or Kansas.  Despite near unanimous objections from every state and nearly every member of the House and Senate, the President appears to be adamant about keeping this one campaign promise that would endanger American lives despite his reckless disregard for all of his other campaign promises.

The Michigan option would include a $100 million revamp of the Standish maximum security prison which is slated to close due to the state’s calamitous financial situation brought to you by state liberal Democrats over the past decade.

The Obama Justice Department has reportedly identified approximately 80 detainees who can be charged and prosecuted.  The problem is they’re choosing to do so in our domestic court system.  Of course, they’re keeping the Bush policy for those they deem “too dangerous” to be tried:  they’re holding them indefinitely without trial.  There are about 150 others that they plan to just release -- despite the high rate of recidivism for returning to the battlefield to kill American soldiers.

Rep. Pete Hoekstra (R-Mich.), the ranking Republican on the House Committee on Intelligence, talked terrorists and Michigan yesterday as news reports of plans to move terrorists to Michigan began to spread across the country.

“I hope that the press reports are inaccurate, but if they are correct the notion of transferring terrorists currently held at Guantanamo Bay to Michigan needs to end,” Hoekstra said.  “The detention facility in Cuba was built for a specific type of prisoner with unique challenges. They are some of the most dangerous people in the world who pose a major threat to U.S. national security. We need to ensure transparency in the process so that state and local officials have access to the same national security information about them as federal national security officials.”

“The Democrats new economic development plan for Michigan is to turn it into a penal colony,” Hoekstra told HUMAN EVENTS.  “I intend to do everything possible to prevent it from happening.”

Pelosi Names AARP as Part of Democrat August Healthcare Blitz

Yesterday, HUMAN EVENTS reported the leaked House Democrat Communication Strategy memo that included a paragraph that is now at the center of a dispute:

“The Leadership is working in close coordination with the White House and outside groups (including but not limited to HCAN, Families USA, AFSCME, SEIU, AARP, etc.) to ensure complementary efforts during August. The President, Secretary Sebelius and other principals in the reform debate will be working throughout the month to hold events, promote the message in the press and move the reform effort forward.”

Pelosi staffers confirm that the paragraph disclosing the supposedly non-partisan AARP’s conspiring with House Democrats in the August blitz to propagandize the Democrats’ government takeover of healthcare was the fault of an “overzealous staffer.”

When Mark Tapscott, Editorial Page Editor of the Washington Examiner, inquired of the AARP yesterday about the collusion with House Democrats on H.R. 3200 revealed in the Democrat memo, the AARP doth protest too much.

Published in his “Beltway Confidential” yesterday, Tapscott got the “overzealous Pelosi staffer” story straight from the AARP Vice President Drew Nannis:

“Hey Mark -- Based on your post and questions, I called the Speaker’s office to find out what, exactly, was going on.  Below is the actual Memo that went out to members -- I was told you had your hands on an earlier draft.  So I’m including the memo for your reference as well as the email address of the staffer who sent it to me -- Nadeam Elshami.  So you can verify whatever you need to verify.

“You’ll note no discussion of coordination in the attached. My guess is an overzealous staffer drafted something earlier that got out before it was properly edited/fact-checked, etc. …”

Pelosi staffers later confirmed participation of this yet-to-be-named OZ Staffer. You can read the exchanges at the link, as both the Pelosi staffers and the AARP struggled to get their story straight about the “earlier version” of the memo that should never, ever, never have included that paragraph naming the AARP as part of the Democrat effort to nationalize healthcare.  Ever.

McConnell Hammers Democrats on Healthcare

Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell of Kentucky yesterday delivered scorching remarks in the healthcare debate from the Senate floor.

Best line of the speech:  “Americans are telling us that health care is too important to base our decisions on this issue solely on the estimates that we’re getting from the same people who brought us the stimulus and Cash for Clunkers.”

The highlights:

“First there was the stimulus. In trying to account for rising unemployment after a stimulus bill that was meant to arrest it, the administration said it misread the economy. It also said the stimulus would ‘create or save’ between three and four million jobs, though now it says it can’t measure how many jobs are created or saved. Meanwhile, we’ve lost two million of them since the stimulus was passed.

“Last week we saw the administration’s tendency to miss the mark on economic estimates again with the so-called Cash for Clunkers program.

“We were told this program would last for several months. As it turned out, it ran out of money in a week, prompting the House to rush a $2 billion dollar extension before anybody even had time to figure out what happened with the first billion.

“There’s a pattern here, a pattern that amounts to an argument -- and a very strong argument at that: when the administration comes bearing estimates, it’s not a bad idea to look for a second opinion. All the more so if they say they’re in a hurry.

“Americans are telling us that health care is too important to rush. They’re saying it’s too important to base our decisions on this issue solely on the estimates that we’re getting from the same people who brought us the stimulus and Cash for Clunkers.

“The American people want to know what they’re getting into when it comes to changing health care in this country. And while I have no doubt the administration is trying, Americans need some assurance that the estimates they’re getting are accurate. And if recent experience is any guide, they have reason to be as skeptical as the car dealer who said this to a reporter last week: ‘If they can't administer a program like this, I'd be a little concerned about my health insurance.’”

That’s what we need!

A one hundred million revamp of a Michigan facility, so that we can exit a recently renovated two hundred million dollar facility on the island of Cuba!

To house the same prisoners, er - detainees, but now we’ll have to pay for heating and air conditioning in their new digs, while giving them habeus corpus priviledges.

Just place the toilets at the east end of their cells, so these cockroaches know where to point to Mecca for the rest of their lives.

Stupid is as stupid does. At least when some liberal judge lets them free, they'll have cousins in Dearborn to bunk with and start their next “cell”. Totally stupid!

Just as crazy as giving Palestinian Hamas members and their families airplane tickets to USA, plue living expenses from taxpayer dollars..that was in the stimulus plan I believe, or one of bills passed by Congress. Either this is plain stupid, or intetionally devious, you guess?

Why is it Obama was making campaign promises like closing Gitmo and not one interviewer asked him a reasonable question like where these terrorists would go? I guess the out of work UAW people can apply for jobs guarding these new guests to their home state.

I know. I mean, who spends money by the millions anymore; it's so 90s.

Nowadays, under the Obama Plan, the only way to fund any project is by the billion.
