WASHINGTON – Supreme Court nominee Sonia Sotomayor won more GOP support in her drive toward near-certain Senate confirmation Thursday as the first Hispanic justice, even as a growing chorus of Republicans called her unfit for the bench.

Republican Sens. Kit Bond of Missouri and Judd Gregg of New Hampshire broke with their party to announce they'd support President Barack Obama's nominee, as the Senate cleared the way for a history-making vote that will shape the court for decades to come and could carry heavy political consequences for both parties.

I'm sorry as can be that I ever cast a vote for Kit Bond.

It is not that I believe we could prevent Sotomayor from being seated but God sake what is the point in helping her along?

Bond is a retiring US Senator. He could vote for Hitler if he wanted to.

All we can do is take note of these traitors and do our best to make sure they are not re-elected.

The Republicans must not like winning elections. They just keep punching themselves in the face.

What's the difference between a democrat politician and a Republican politician?
Not much.

The bastards are destroying our Republic and the brain dead GOP just keeps rolling along. I suppose they think this will get them the Hispanic vote in 2010...

Even if the GOP takes control in 2010 they'll just p&ss it away in 2012... We need a conservative party...

Yes, and then make sure they go bankrupt when they return to the real world private sector. They need to feel the pain they are causing the American people...

April I don’t believe in forming a third party but I think we both agree that the percentage of “true believers” in GOP ranks is painfully thin.

Okay somebody needs to explain this to me like i'm 6 years old.

One of my senators (Alexander R-TN) is going to vote to confirm also.

If she is a shoe-in for the court ANYWAY, why the hell are ANY republicans voting for her when they could stand on principle for once in their lives and vote no on a racist, activist judge?

Makes you wonder if they even know of her LaRaza influences or statements she's made re: Wise Latina.

And then there's the fireman's promotional exam case that the Supremes reversed her on. Her agenda is written all over her fat face, why can't others see it?

Aren’t both of them retiring at the end of their terms? Could it be the GOP is wheeling and dealing with something/someone here?

Oh, and Martinez too.
