Federal Judge Rules Creationism-Themed Park To Be Seized
WLTX ^ | 8/4/09 | Ryan McClung

In a bit of random news, a federal judge ruled last week that Dinosaur Aventure Land, a creationism theme park in Pensacola, Florida, would be seized. The park's owners were convicted of tax fraud and the land the park inhabits and the two bank accounts associated with it will be expropriated to satisfy $430,400 owed to the federal government in taxes.

The seizure of the property is the result of 17 years of the park's owner, Kent Hovind, fighting the federal government over $470,000 in employee taxes owed. Hovind claimed he was employed by God and his "ministers" -- I'm assuming this means "employees" -- were not subject to payroll taxes.

Hovind is now imprisoned at the Edgefield Federal Correction Institution in South Carolina.

That park will see the same fate as the dinosaurs.

The less “dinosaurs and people played together” theme parks setup by religious fundamentalist kook grifters, the better.

Googling reveals that this park opened in 2001. So, if the dispute goes back 17 years, it must not have to do with the employees of the park.

It;s to do with HOvind’s theory that the business he formed in 1989 belongs to God, and he (Hovind) owes nothing to the United States for anything he receives for doing God’s work.

I’d like to see the math on that $430,000 dollars.

$932.76 missed payment in 1992.

Penalties and interest by 2009, $429,067.24.

It’s a good thing they’re going after him now. It could be $10 kazillion by the end of next week.

Render to Caesar, does he not read His Bible. No one wants to pay taxes, the way to fight taxes in through legislation via voting.

I WONDERED what happened to Kent Hovind! I used to read his stuff. As an old-universe Christian, I disagreed with just about everything Hovind thinks about Creation (except who did it). But I wouldn't wish prison on anybody.

However, in this case, it looks like he brought it on himself. Should have listened to Jesus. "Render unto Caesar that which is Caesar's..."
