John Culberson was enthusiastically welcomed by an overflow crowd at the Jersey Village Town Center this evening. One young, self proclaimed liberal expressed his concern with the lack of portability of insurance due to his diabetes, and the Congressman and the entire crowd agreed with his concern and vowed that this was one issue that Congress could address. But speaker after speaker described their experiences and deep concerns with a Government run health program. Seniors were concerned with rationed care for life-prolonging treatments. (I wanted to say that if the bill passes, that I will have to retrieve the handicap placard from my 87 year old mother in law lest someone from Acornian pounce on her and euthanize her on the spot. ) One gentleman said his 80ish wife would not have received a pacemaker. People working in Europe described days of delay seeking treatment for asthma and heart attacks. A Nurse Practioner told of the amazement of a German medical student learning that an Oncological Surgical Fellow had spent the night at the bedside of a grievously ill patient. (In Germany the Doctors work 9 to 5.)
No one shouted Rep. Culberson down. Most simply wanted to know what they could do to stop this legislation that would personally reduce their quality of life.
The Congressman hinted that he had a plan and encouraged all of us to join him, join facebook (johnculberson), and receive his uncensored electronic communications, He’s hopeful for the future.

Unlike many democrats it appears Culberson isn’t afraid to talk to his constituents. How refreshing.
