Eunice Kennedy Shriver, the 86-year-old sister of President John F. Kennedy, who founded the Special Olympics and championed the rights of the mentally retarded, has been hospitalized. A spokesman said Friday that Shriver's family was at her side at a Massachusetts hospitla.
Shriver is also the sister of Sen. Edward Kennedy and the mother-in-law of California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger.
It was no immediately clear what ailment, if any, was affecting her. It was also not immediate clear how long Shriver has been hospitalized.

Eunice Shriver is credited with transforming America's view of the mentally disabled from institutionalized patients to that of friends, neighbors and athletes. Her efforts were inspired in part by the struggles of her retarded sister, Rosemary. She founded the Special Olympics in 1968.

The Special Olympics program will be her legacy. It is a good one. Prayers up for her and her family.

Sorry to hear this. Eunice has done a world of good with her Special Olympics. May she live and be well, but if that is not God’s will, may she have a very peaceful passing,and a grand entrance into the presence of Jesus and the Angels and the Saints.
They will. There is no grave they won't dance on, no elderly person they won't take advantage of and no child they won't use to achieve their goals.
I seriously don't think they can help themselves.
So she's at a "Massachusetts hospital"? I'll wager that that means Massachusetts General...one of the very finest hospitals in the world.And my guess is that she's not being denied a single test or form of treatment...regardless of how expensive...that might prolong her life by a single hour.

Well, in a prior professional life, it was my lot to work closely with one of President Kennedy’s siblings. In so doing, I met all surviving siblings and many of their offspring. Eunice, uniquely in this arrogant and offensive crowd, was thoughtful and considerate of others, even of us “little people.” Perhaps not unrelated to this, she was a faithful practicing Catholic and the only Kennedy to oppose abortion. I liked her even as I disliked ALL the others. I wish her well.

Testifying as a "character witness" for her heroin addict nephews,David and Robert....and her rapist nephew,Will....and her murderer nephew,Michael....not to mention her murderer brother,What's-His-Name....will be her legacy.It's a bad one.
Maybe the Dear Comrade can make another joke about the Special Olympics when Eunice Kennedy Shriver passes on.
