Facebook Inc. is providing new details of how an attack aimed at a Georgian blogger Thursday disrupted its site and crashed others, including Twitter Inc. and LiveJournal Inc.
The company rooted out the cause of the massive denial-of-service attack, said Facebook spokesman Barry Schnitt, after noticing that the compromised computers that began flooding its site Thursday morning were directing traffic to the profile page of a single pro-Georgian blogger, who uses the account name "Cyxymu," the name of a town in the Republic of Georgia. The Cyxymu blogger couldn't immediately be reached.
In a blog post Friday, Twitter co-founder Biz Stone said that the attacks were "ongoing" and "appear to have been geopolitical in motivation. "However, we don't feel it's appropriate to engage in speculative discussion about these motivations," he continued.

We are currently experiencing a World Wide Hacker War right now on the web. Believe it or not, legally any site right now can be completely shutdown within 48 hours by a specific type of hacker attack. Large companies with very good IT departments can prevent this attack, but us small guys are gonna be crushed. And there is nothing we can do about it. Expect quite a few sites to just disappear in the immediate future. If you want additional info, just ask with a post. I don’t read any of my Freeper email due to some very strange emails I got from Putin supporters about 2 to 3 years ago.

What is it about?
US politics or stuff
international?

Not internal US politics. International Hacker War on the Web. South Korea was recently attacked. Now we have a Georgian supporter attacked. Eastern Europe countries have been previously targeted from Russia. Serious stuff. One of my third party applications was getting hammered by bot programs from Russia and Ukraine. Started about 1 1/2 to 2 years ago. Another of my third party applications was just recently completely shut down by a felony attack. Had to abandon it. I know the hackers use English as a second language. But picture this, you are logging into Paypal and the first page also asks you to update you cc info. Looks like a legitimate paypal screen. The key is to examine how the English on the paypal or bank screen is written. Very hard for those raised on most foreign languages to get English grammer exactly correct. They like to phrase thinks backwards. Cat Black instead of Black Cat. BofA is also getting hammered right now. Tried to call the Internet Fraud line 2 weeks ago and they are so busy all you got was a recording asking for you to leave info and they never called back.
