Lieutenant Colonel Allen West (US Army, Retired) was born and raised in Atlanta Georgia and is third of four generations of military servicemen in his family. His parents instilled in him a very basic principle, love of God and Country. In 2004, when it was time to retire from more than twenty years of service in the US Army, he brought his wife and two young daughters to Broward County, Florida, where he taught high school for one year. He then returned to Afghanistan as an advisor to the Afghan army, an assignment he finished in November 2007.
Allen West received his Bachelors degree from University of Tennessee and Masters degree from Kansas State University, both in political science. He also holds a Master of Military Arts and Sciences from the US Army Command and General Staff Officer College in political theory and military operations.
"Education is the great equalizer," he says. "With a good education, any child in America can live his dream."
Allen West knows that for our children to live their dreams, they need to be safe. He has served in several combat zones: in Operation Desert Storm, in Operation Iraqi Freedom, where he was battalion commander for the Army's 4th Infantry Division, and in Afghanistan, where he trained Afghan officers to take on the responsibility of securing their own country.
In his Army career, Col. West has been honored many times, including a Bronze Star, three Meritorious Service Medals, three Army Commendation Medals (one with Valor), and a Valorous Unit Award. He received his valor award as a Captain in Desert Shield/Storm, was the US Army ROTC Instructor of the Year in 1993, and was a Distinguished Honor Graduate III Corps Assault School. He proudly wears the Army Master parachutist badge, Air Assault badge, Navy/Marine Corps parachutist insignia, Italian parachutist wings, and German proficiency badge (Bronze award).
Allen is an avid distance runner, a PADI Master certified SCUBA diver, motorcyclist, and attends Community Christian Church in Tamarac Florida.
Excellence is a West family tradition. His wife, Angela, holds an MBA and PhD. and works as a financial planner. His oldest daughter, Aubrey, attends Archbishop McCarthy HS and his youngest daughter, Austen, attends Parkway Christian School.
Steve Malzberg has fast become one of America’s most recognizable faces and voices on the political talk scene. He has been recognized by Talkers Magazine as one of the nation’s, “Top 100 Talk Show Hosts” several times.
His quick wit, passion and biting analysis of the days events have earned him a huge and loyal following throughout the nation. Steve is among the most sought after “Talking Heads” regularly appearing on the Fox News Channel and CNN. Steve has also filled in for Joe Scarborough and Monica Crowley on MSNBC, and was a regular contributor on the Phil Donahue Show.
Steve has been a guest host on stations around the country sitting in for Bill Bennett and Mike Gallagher on the Salem Radio Network, and John Gibson and others on Fox Radio. He’s also been heard on WMAL in Washington DC, KLIF in Dallas, WBT in Charlotte and WGST in Atlanta among other stations around the nation. The Steve Malzberg Show is heard nationally via the WOR Radio Network.
Steve is perhaps best known for his ability to snag the top newsmakers of the moment for interviews, and using his warm engaging personality to get his guests to open up. He has won several A.I.R. Awards (Achievement In Radio) for “Best Interview” in both the news and sports areas.
Steve’s ability to bring that same passion from behind the microphone to live audiences has made him a successful and sought after speaker. He has been honored by many groups including the NYC PBA, who selected him as their 2004 Man Of The Year. Other honors have come from The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children, The NY State Shields, United Cuban-American Organizations, The Chinese-American Society, Retired Detectives of the Police Department of the city of New York, Detectives Crime Clinic of NY-NJ, American Legion of Little Neck, NY, The Department of Veterans Affairs; and Steve received the Distinguished American Award from the Bergen County NJ Chapter of the National Football and College Hall of Fame.

We have a lovely program scheduled for Friday night after the Walter Reed visit. We have a candlelight vigil at the Sheraton’s top-floor ballroom which overlooks the Pentagon (where we lost Barbara Olsen and so many Americans) and the Air Force Memorial. Bring tissues
We are flying back on the 9th leaving on 13th staying at the Washington-Capitol Holiday Inn - 550 C Street SW - Washington, DC 20024. I haven’t signed up for the FReeper convention yet, maybe you can let me know what you’re doing and when.
Mtngrandma wants to see a some museums and art things back there this time.
I wanted to travel with Tea Party Express, but the closest they came to Denver was Albuquerque and then it’s 11 days on the road before they get to Washington DC. Hope to catch up with them back there.

As I listened to Rush this afternoon he repeated, a couple times, Obama's by now famous line (lie?) about private healthcare plans: "If you like it you can keep it."
I had a thought: If you tweak the emphasis a little bit, that phrase can be turned around and thrown right back in the faces of the supporters of Obamacare: "If you like it, YOU can keep it!!!" heh, heh, heh

Shining brightly among the three stars in our banquet's All-Star speaker line-up is Col. Allen B. West (R). It's a great honor for Free Republic to have him as a very special guest, indeed. He receives standing O's everywhere he speaks as he travels across the fruited plain with messages all Americans should hear.
Col. West was on the front line of the War on Terror in the heart of the Iraqi resistance. He undertook extraordinary measures to safeguard the lives of his men and to protect Americans under attack by bloodthirsty Islamist gang leaders.
Yet, Col. West earned the disdain of leftist intellectuals and the rebuke of some disgraceful U.S. military honchos for protecting the lives of his troops.
West was no stranger to the battlefield, having received the Bronze Star and other decorations for valor. He commanded the 4th Infantry, 2nd Battalion, 20th Field Artillery Regiment near Tikrit, Iraq.
In the days following the toppling of Saddam's regime and preceding the dictator's capture in a filthy desert hole, he was responsible for the lives and safety of 700 troops sweltering in the field directly in the crosshairs of Sunni Triangle die-hard terrorists.
Allied forces captured an Iraqi policeman thug named Hamoodi. Four interrogation specialists worked for hours desperately trying to pry out of him the plans for an imminent ambush attack against the soldiers in 4th Division.
Nothing moved Hamoodi to crack. Finally, Col. West brought the prisoner outside, took out his sidearm and threatened to kill Hamoodi unless he talked. He then fired a warning shot into the sky, carefully holding the terrorist's head safely aside.
This did the trick. Hamoodi began singing, telling West the identities of the two men planning the attack. He also revealed their method of operation, and he included the site of the intended ambush. Col. West then reported the results of his successful, though unorthodox, tactic to his superior.
For thusly protecting the 700 soldiers in his care from a grisly, bloody attack and for cracking Hamoodi where professional interrogation had failed, the Colonel was immediately stripped of his command and became faced with the threat of court martial and prison time.
The "rest of the story" can be Googled or Yahoo-ed. It's an engaging war story with a thought-provoking ending. Col. West is a model military leader, precisely the kind of man any soldier would want watching his back in combat. His troops and his fellow countrymen (us) were denied his valiant service in a misguided effort to curry favor with the international Left and the Euro-Socialists.....to show them and all others in the "international community" that not all Americans are "trigger-happy cowboys".
Freepers, here's a chance to hear about this unfunny farce AND MORE information from this experienced military officer. You can be sure that we'll be reading about MORE travesties of this nature as the Afghan war continues or other battles elsewhere heat up.
Why? Because there's little doubt that Communista-In-Chief Obama and his left-wing advisors espouse every kind of irresponsible policies intended to hamper and emasculate our military.
We're going to ask Col. West to remain at his table for a while after the banquet if he can do so. All freepers, veterans and active military in our audience can shake his hand, thank him for his courageous, intrepid service.....and just chew with him about the conflicts and policies in the Middle East theater.
Don't let this one-of-a-kind opportunity slip out of your grasp, freeper patriots. Let's JAM the banquet room for Colonel West and our other two outspoken speakers.
