President Obama decried Saturday what he called the "outlandish" claims by critics of his plans for health-care reform as he continued to ratchet up his personal rhetoric in support of the changes he hopes to make.
In his weekly Internet and radio address, the president pushed back against claims "that reform will promote euthanasia, cut Medicaid, or bring about a government takeover of health care. That's simply not true."
Obama conceded that the fight he launched to change health care has become "fiercer" as the specifics of reform have become clearer. Lawmakers returned home this week to find raucous opponents of his health-care plans at town halls across the country.
"In recent days and weeks, some have been using misleading information to defeat what they know is the best chance of reform we have ever had. That is why it is important, especially now, as senators and representatives head home and meet with their constituents, for you, the American people, to have all the facts," he said.
In fact, the opposition has grown much more intense. An e-mail put out Friday evening from House Republican Leader John Boehner was titled: "DEMOCRATS GOVERNMENT TAKEOVER OF HEALTH CARE WILL CRUSH STATE BUDGETS."
And former Alaska governor Sarah Palin wrote Friday on her Facebook account that Obama's plans are "downright evil."

Has anyone considered the possibility that Obama is insane and could be replaced under the rules of the 22nd Amendment?
I agree!
Never ever trust the Joker ... Who knew, the Joker is evil.
The Joker probably doesn't like the government run healthcare protesters speaking American.
Replace by Biden?
America is in enough jeopardy as it is.
Or Pelosi?
Well we may have to use the 22nd several times to try to come up with a sane replacement.
Obama conceded that the fight he launched to change health care has become “fiercer” as the specifics of reform have become clearer.
In other words, as people have actually had the opportunity to find out WHAT’S IN IT, they are very much against it!! Gee, I wonder if that’s how come Hussein wanted this debacle passed RIGHT AWAY, without public scrutiny??!! NAAAHHHH!!!
22nd amendment limits a president to being elected to two terms. 25th amendment has something about presidential disability, if I recall correctly.
You can imagine a huge political battle would break out if someone wanted to declare the president unfit medically or mentally for office.
Otherwise, a president would have to be impeached by Congress, then convicted in a Senate trial.
And as this debate gets fiercer, he wants “those who created the mess” to shut the (blank) up, while he cleans up the mess. So much for debate on a big issue.
An irony is that many Republicans recognize that there are problems in our health care system, and are interested in legislation to fix some of those issues. The issue would be ripe for compromise if Obama and Nancy Pelosi and everyone were interested in that. But instead, they want to ram it down our throats.
And remember how John Conyers said something about, who has time to read 1000 pages plus, then talk to attorneys about what it all means, before Congress votes on it. What an amazing comment that was. Apparently Dems. don’t think Congressmen should read and understand all pieces of a bill before they approve it.
Those against Obama care must articulate alternatives.
They will win if we do not admit that HMOs are the problem. Big for profit corporations that pay huge CEO salaries and shareholder dividends drive up costs and ration care. To allow the Federal Government to run health care will be as bad or worse.
We must get rid of them.
Tax credits for everyone, who can buy insurance from non-profit health insurers is one possibility.
Non profit clinics which do some indigent care and concierge medicine is another.
Small preventive medicine clinics which services would be paid for by the individual who carries catastrophic insurance would decrease costs.
Come on. Quit just complaining.
Let’s come up with attractive alternatives.
The contents of that darn HR3200 bill keep misleading people!!!!
we are so screwed....
The AstroTurf playbook had a significant game-changer. Common folks found out, all by themselves, without the help of a community organizer, that they can go to a hardware store, buy some grass seed, get some Weed-n-Feed, use their own garden hose, and grow their own grass-root effort - all while being well dressed, and for the most part, 'clean and articulate'.
Common folks did what many of their representatives did NOT do, that is, actually READ the proposed bills.
The 'sausage watchers' actually picked through the entrails and mangled guts of the proposed laws (DeathCare, Crap-n-Charade, etc) and saw all the ugliness. The need to sneak in voluminous, last-minute Manager's Amendment in the 12th hour (2am actually) on Crap-n-Chrade spoke to the issue that a large, dirty deed was upon us. Well, that model has been exposed, and won't work next time.
Nothing wrong with profits.
