Pelosi Called Us Nazis, So We're Pushing Back Twice as Hard
The Speaker of the House said town hall protesters carried swastikas. The left has been comparing conservatives to Nazis for generations. We've had enough. The Nazis were socialist leftists. If you insist on using the analogy, liberals, look in the mirror. (Rush 24/7 Members: Listen)

They don't like to have the tables turned on them one bit.

VIDEO:  Pelosi '08: Protests are Patriotic

BEGIN TRANSCRIPT

RUSH:  My friends, it is very simple.  It's not hard to understand at all.  When the speaker of the House of Representatives, third in line to the presidency, accused Americans at town hall meetings of being Nazi sympathizers -- when she started it -- I pushed back twice as hard.  Anybody have a problem with that?  ...  David Brooks. You talk about David Brooks and what he said, saying that what I said was "insane."  You know, David Brooks is no more informed about this subject than Obama was informed about what happened with Crowley and Gates.  They both popped off about things they didn't know about, and they both admitted they didn't know about it.  Brooks said he had no clue what the Rush Limbaugh thing was, but leveled it "insane," pronounced it "insane."  We'll get to that in just a second.

But there's a tally, a final weekend tally. Pelosi; None.  Gibbs. None.  Durbin: None.  Rush, too many to count.  That's the score, my friends.  Rather than talk about the obvious flaws in health care, the subject was changed. They talked about references to Nazi Germany.  The House... All weekend long, a thousand references to me over the weekend, and they are rattled at the White House.  F. Chuck Todd admits that they're rattled and they're unsettled over this.  House Democrats have set up a health care war room.  Obama has a brand-new health care website.  They have marching orders and instructions for people to go visit congressmen one-on-one in their offices to lobby for health care reform.  If you need to do all of this, if you need a new website to go along with your snitch website and to go along with your Organizing for America website -- and if you need a war room in the House of Representatives for the Democrats there to use, and if you need a new organizational plan to send people out to members of Congress -- it seems to me that it is a sign people really don't want what you are selling.

Rather than talk about the people who raised the specter of swastikas, rather than talk about the people that raised the specter of mobs -- unruly mobs -- rather than talk about the people who brought up this whole Nazi Germany business in the first place (Pelosi, Durbin, and Gibbs) all weekend long they talked only about me, your lovable host.  Ugly, vile hate speech, no problem!  Hitler had a youth movement, folks, who snitched on their parents.  Obama has got an APB out for people to snitch on their neighbors.  What you would you call this?  You got a snitch website.  Now, they're out there denying it's a snitch website, but it's a snitch website.  Now, let's play the David Brooks sound bite. Because if they want to continue this, if they want to get this right, if people are going to comment on this, they need to be informed. Like Obama should have been informed and been a little bit more discreet when making comments about the Henry Gates, Sergeant Crowley episode. David Brooks yesterday on the Meet the Press said this in answer to a question from David Gregory: "What's going on here?  How does the president retake center stage here?"

BROOKS:  I hadn't seen Rush Limbaugh thing. That is insane!  Huh huh huh. What he's saying is insane.  Leaders of both parties could have gone out to these town meetings.  They didn't do it.  They chose more or less a Democratic plan and now all hell is breaking loose, and we are now -- and it's not just the crazies among whom we just saw some. Bt if you take overall poll ratings for health care they are -- people -- the American public is now as skeptical as they were when Clinton care collapsed.  So there... It's not just the crazies.  There is a real public concern about real issues.

RUSH:  So Brooks didn't even know what I said, didn't know why I said what I said, yet pronounced it "insane."  Now, Byron York sent me an e-mail yesterday afternoon, he was wanting a response from me to what Brooks said at the Washington Examiner. And I wrote him back and I said, "Everybody seems to forget that Nancy Pelosi started this."  Nancy Pelosi, the speaker of the House of Representatives started this by telling TV cameras and microphones that Americans showing up to protest health care were wearing swastikas. That's saying they're Nazis, and then they were called mobs and ugly mobs and unruly mobs and so forth.  And I told Byron, "For my whole career, I have sat here and I have listened to conservatism be compared to Nazism.  I had eight years of 'Bush is Hitler.'  I have had all of these comparisons.

"I had Dick Durbin talking about our interrogators at Gitmo being like Nazi thugs.  We've heard Obama make the comparison to our court system being like Nazi Germany.  Finally I'm hitting back, in kind, and I'm not surprised they don't like it."  Now, I want to say a little bit more here about Brooks and this "insane" comment here.  Let's leave aside the fact that the term "Nazi" comes from the German word for National Socialism.  That's where the word "Nazi" comes from.  Now, if you guys in the White House, if you don't like being compared to the socialism of Adolf Hitler and the Nazis, fine. I'll just as easily compare you to the fascists of the twenties and thirties if you prefer that.  But socialism is socialism. I don't care who ran it. I don't care where it happened. It is what it is, and there are parallels to this stupid plan and what was done -- and why -- in Germany.

One of Hitler's major domestic priorities was to complete and politicize the process of nationalizing all aspects of German health care.  And a good friend of mine, Andy McCarthy, send me a long article today published in November 1993 by a US doctor who saw the health care issue as a perfect example of the inevitable pattern of socialism: Taking something that was initially the province of individual choice -- guided by, of course, the individual Judeo-Christian notions of charity for the poor. You take something initially the province of individual choice, you move it to the ambit of state responsibility on the welfare state theory that it is government's responsibility to redistribute resources to ensure everyone's needs and you finally get the dictatorial control.

Because as the state becomes more totalitarian, the leaders of the state necessarily make political choices about how the available resources got rationed.  Now, let me say up front here that nobody is saying Obama is Hitler.  Nobody is saying that Pelosi is anybody else in Hitler's regime.  But there is no denying that what happened in Germany is a socialist legacy based on the leftist premise that health care is not a matter of individual responsibility but it is fit for government control.  You want to know what happened in Germany?  I'll tell you what happened in Germany.  Bismarck socialized medicine in the late Nineteenth Century. In typical lefty fashion, he called it "anti-socialist" legislation.  This guy had it on Saul Alinsky before Saul Alinsky was born.  But as the doctor explains in this article, it was page one in the moderate playbook.  You provide little socialism in the inane hope of avoiding a more radical government takeover. Even though once government gets its foot in the door, we all know what eventually happens.

Now, the Weimar Republic. The Weimar Republic naturally squeezed out any notion of health care as a private matter.  That is what statists and totalitarians do.  Everything seemed hunky-dory until post-World War I economic downturns when doctors, who are now partners of the state rather than servants of their patients, started rationing available health care based on the state's cost-benefit analysis.  It's all in the House plan! Everything that was done in Germany in the thirties, nationalizing health care. It's all in the House plan perform what this... It laid the groundwork for Hitler's National Socialism.  They used the health care in Germany, and the government takeover of it as the foundation for socialism nationwide.  Because it allows to you regulate every aspect of everyone's behavior.  It allows you access to everybody's privacy.

All in the name of "doing good."  All in the name of some confused "right" to good health that people have.  And in the process what used to be a matter of individual choice and what used to be a matter of individual responsibility, health care, now is out the door, and the government's gonna take care of all of it.  And in the process, you lose your privacy, and you lose your liberty.  Now, Hitler's propaganda stressed government responsibility for national health care.  Doctors rushed to join the Nazi Party because everybody had gotten used to government control of the industry, and Hitler's regime was going to decide things like what medical research funding went to which institutions and who would be allowed to practice what kind of medicine, and so it's sort of like the global warming movement.  The people who want grants have to adopt a certain party line that there is manmade global warming.

In Germany, the way Hitler got the doctors was to bring them in on it and make sure that the chosen ones -- the ones that signed up -- were the ones that got the assignments, the money and so forth and so on.  With the public in German having accepted the premise that health care was a government responsibility, then it was just a matter of time. Health care seamlessly became the slave of Hitler's other policies.  Now, Jewish doctors were barred.  Reproduction rights were denied to those deemed genetically inferior.  There were forced abortions and euthanasias and so forth.  Now, I can understand why the White House is upset about all of these comparisons.  But socialism is socialism, as I say.  If you want me to I'll go back and give you the fascists of the Twenties and Thirties.

They don't like Nazi Germany, I'll give you Mussolini's Italy.  Or I can give you the Soviet Union any time in the Seventies, Eighties, and Nineties.  Whatever you want, I can give you -- I can give you the North Koreans today.  Socialism is socialism wherever it is, whatever you call it.  But don't forget, folks, the term "Nazi" comes from the German word for National Socialism.  And Obama's got his people out there, and Obama is even saying, "Well, there's no euthanasia in the plan and there are no cutbacks in Medicare." What plan, Mr. President?  You haven't presented a plan!  How can you tell us what is or isn't in the plan when you don't have one?  All we've got to go on is the House plan, and it's all there.  This is mind-boggling stuff.  They deny what's there.  They deny what's in it.  As though we're supposed to believe Obama, like a cult following.

Just because he says it, we're supposed to believe it. Problem is, we've read it.  And people are showing up at these town hall meetings -- and the union thugs have come out now and it's getting violent.  You know -- on his orders.  He's the one that's ordered all this up.  They're the ones who said, "If they hit you, we're going to punch back twice as hard."  Well, Nancy Pelosi called all of you and me and everybody showing up at these town meetings Nazis.  She used the swastika. Durbin has done it.  So I pushed back twice as hard, and they've got a problem with that.  Now, Mr. Brooks, I know you're not uneducated, but it really is "insane" to proclaim something you know nothing about to be insane.  Now, one more time here: Nobody is saying that Obama is Hitler.  Nobody is saying that Nancy Pelosi is Goebbels.

But there is no denying that what happened in Germany is a socialist legacy based on a leftist premise that health care is not a matter of individual responsibility but is something fit for government control.  If the question is, "Who is more like the Nazis?" and the choices are Obama-Pelosi or people showing up at town hall meetings who want to protect their individual liberty, that's not even a close call. (interruption) No, I'm not going to apologize for it.  They started this.  Everybody seems to forget that the speaker of the House does not get a pass.  The speaker of the House does not get to call over half the people in this country who oppose her plan Nazis with impunity.  Nobody reported it. Nobody talked about her. Nobody mentioned Durbin over the weekend and what he said on the Senate floor.

If you want to get into a comparison of Obama and Pelosi and this health care bill that's in the House, and the tea party people or the people showing up at these national town halls to address their congressmen about preserving their freedom and liberty... You want to get into an argument over who's closer to the Nazi policies in the thirties and forties in Germany? It's not a contest, folks.  It is not a contest.  The left has been pinning Hitler and Nazism on the right for decades. My entire career on this program, 21 years, I've put up with it. I've listened to it.  Well, what happened in Germany, from the period of 1880 to 1945 was a socialist phenomenon.  Adolf Hitler was a man of the left.  He was not a man of the right.  They can deny it all they want, but it is a fact: Hitler was a leftist.

BREAK TRANSCRIPT

RUSH: Ladies and gentlemen, Germany was the first country to develop a national system to insure people against medical costs.  It was in 1883 that one of the most conservative of politicians, Otto Von Bismarck, laid down the first foundation slab to the modern European warfare state, as I just explained to you.  And it was just the first step, and it was not going to be any more than just the first step. It was just going to make the things a little easier, but once the foundation was laid then the premise, "Hey, you know, government can do all of this, and government should do all of this because government wants to control everybody," didn't take long.  Scientific and medical research was a pillar of Germany's economic and industrial development strategy from that time as well.  These policies and structures helped develop an advanced, highly medicalized technological health care system, and once Hitler took over... Well, I'm going to forget all that.  I'm telling you, it was in Germany and Hitler just completed what Bismarck started.  Now, let's go be back.  Let's not forget, because everybody seems to conveniently want to ignore that Nancy Pelosi last Tuesday got all of this started in San Francisco.

PELOSI:  I think they are Astroturf -- you be the judge -- of carrying swastikas and symbols like that to a town hall meeting on health care.

RUSH:  "You be the judge... carrying swastikas and symbols like that."  Maybe, you know, I could sit here and say, I'm just trying to help Pelosi out.  She might have been confused about seeing swastikas since Obama's signs look a lot like them.  Well, that teed 'em off! Let's not forget, Dick Durbin, June 14th, on the Senate floor.

DURBIN:  If I read this to you and didn't tell you that it was an FBI agent describing what Americans had done to prisoners in their control, you would most certainly believe this must have happened by Nazis; Soviets in their gulags; or some mad regime, Pol Pot or others; that had no concern for human beings. Sadly, that's not the case. This was the action of Americans in the treatment of our -- their own prisoners.

RUSH:  Yeah.  Americans were acting like Nazis.  Our interrogators were acting like Nazis, according to Senator Durbin -- and don't forget 1997. Jay Rockefeller and another Democrat, Tom Daschle, had the typical playbook page where they bring some aggrieved citizens up to help push some cause; and this guy's got a swastika tattoo on his arm! He was introduced as one Jay Rockefeller's best friends. Oh, we didn't know this guy had the tattoo! Well, we found out about it he did it in his youth. He didn't know much about it.  Folks, I've sat here for 21 years. You know it. I've had to sit through, we all did, all those Bush-Hitler signs -- Bush = Hitler -- from the leftist blogs and some of the Drive-By Media reported that.

They didn't say it themselves, but they reported it during the second term of George W. Bush.  We had to sit through the media reporting on books and a movie on the assassination of George W. Bush, and we were told we had to appreciate the art.  We've been told we had to appreciate the art and pay for it, of a low-rent piece of pond scum putting a crucifix in a jar of urine and putting it in a museum, on taxpayer dollars.  We've had to put up with all of this stuff.  We've had to put up with people on the left comparing conservatism, which is the essence of liberty and freedom and the individual, we've had to have ourselves compared to Hitler, Nazis, and all this sort of stuff for as long as I've been alive.  I'm finally responding in kind, because these people, this incident, they started it -- and they don't get away with it on this show anymore.  I'm not surprised that they don't like it.

BREAK TRANSCRIPT

RUSH: Vinny in Manhattan.  Hello, Vinny.  Great to have you on the EIB Network, sir.  Hello.

CALLER:  Great one, FDNY dittos to you.

RUSH:  Thank you, sir.

CALLER:  Leaders Boehner and McConnell should have been on the steps of the Capitol demanding Nancy Pelosi step down.  To hell with her apologizing -- and anyone from the Democratic Party regarding the swastika comment.  I mean, how long is the GOP, if you'll pardon the expression going to keep that powder dry here? All right?  This woman needs to be called out, and we need to create a spectacle! That's what we need to do, instead of all this pussyfooting around.  The hell with Nancy Pelosi, the hell with the Democratic Party and their power grabbing socialize every man, woman, and child in this country! We need to start making a spectacle of ourselves when things happen like this, okay?  Every member of Congress should have been outraged at what she just called every person in this country that believes in the freedom to debate ideas that come down from the holy offices of Congress, okay?  I mean... Hey, I'm a conservative, and I believe where we're headed, but our members of Congress need to step up and say, "Who the hell do you think you are telling the media that there are conservatives running around with swastikas on signs?"  Nothing like that has happened at these meetings, and nothing will, because we're not like that.  I'm angry about this, quite frankly.

RUSH:  You ought to be angry about it and this is the often asked question that I can shorten and repeat it thus.  Where's the Republican Party?  And I haven't got the answer, but frankly we didn't need 'em.  We got attention focused on this.

CALLER: You took the bullet as usual.

RUSH:  Yeah, I know. But your point really is well meant. That outraged me, and these guys in Congress, they're Republicans, they've been called Nazis. They've been allegedly called Nazis all these years, especially if they're conservatives and so forth -- and she's their speaker.  They shoulda stood up and raised a little hell about it.  I think to them it's just words, an inside-the-Beltway game stuff that goes back and forth in the House, and it could well be that they want the words to stand on their own and not call attention to it, who knows.  But since I'm not the leader of the Republican Party and nowhere near that position, I can't tell you why they didn't do it.

CALLER:  Well, Rush, we appreciate all the bullets you take for us day in and day out.  You certainly know you're not alone.  But the leadership needs to know that even though you are still the "titular head" of the conservative movement in this country --

RUSH: (laughing)

CALLER: -- they need to be out there raising a little hell, and Nancy Pelosi cannot be allowed to get away with what she said.  Thank you, sir.

RUSH:  Well, in terms of State-Run Media, she got away with it.  They didn't report it.  They didn't make a big deal about it.  In fact, all these people commenting on what I said conveniently left out the fact that she started it and that I was just responding in kind, finally.  And I'll say again, folks -- to cut to the chase on this debate -- if we want to ask the question, "Which group of people are closer to the National Socialism of Germany on this health care plan: Is it Obama and the Democrats and the plan, or is it the people showing up to protest the plan at these town hall meetings?"  It's no contest.  The people who are the closest and bear the most striking resemblance to the socialist policies of Nazis is today's Democrat Party, with this health care plan.  I'm not saying Hitler and Pelosi are the saying thing.  I'm not saying that.

But I mean Nazi is derived from the German word National Socialism.  The German words for National Socialism, that's where Nazi comes from.  Socialism is socialism wherever it is.  Be it in the Soviet Union, be it with Hitler in the bunker back in the Thirties and Forties, be it with Kim Jong ll today and whoever else, Hugo Chavez down in Venezuela. I'm telling you that what the Democrat Party today is doing with this health care, from the president on down, bears far more resemblance to socialized policies of previous regimes in the world including the Nazis, than anything the people protesting this are doing.  They don't resemble anything at all to do with socialism. These people are protesting to stand up and maintain their liberty and their freedom.  Hitler, Lenin, Stalin, were all men of the left.

BREAK TRANSCRIPT

RUSH: I want you to listen again carefully to this New York Times story today by Eric Dash. We'll get to the Pelosi sound bite in a minute.  "The resurrection of the guaranteed bonus is sure to become a hot-button issue for the Obama administration's pay czar, Kenneth Feinberg, who is preparing this week to review how compensation should be structured at seven companies that received two or more federal bailouts. The companies must each submit 2009 compensation plans for their top 25 earners by Thursday [this week], and Mr. Feinberg has 60 days to rule on them. He has the authority to single out any of those employees and adjust their pay packages," and I would ask: How in the hell does he have this authority?  He's not a cabinet member.  How does he have this authority?  From where does he get this authority?

"In the next phase, he is to review the packages of the next 75 highest earners in each company. For them, he can set pay formulas to be applied broadly." So we have one guy working for Obama who has not been confirmed by the US Senate who can sit there and tell people on Wall Street what they can or cannot make based on whatever he feels is fair, right, just for whatever reason.  All right, let's go back and compare this to Nazi Germany under Adolf Hitler. " The German Labor Front, the DAF, was the amalgamated national socialist Nazism."  Nazism was officially National Socialism.  "It refers to the ideology and practices of the national socialist German workers party under one Adolf Hitler and the policies adopted by the dictatorial government of Nazi Germany from 1933 to 1945.  A trade union..."

This is how they defined it: "A trade union or labor union is an organization run by and for workers who have banded together to achieve common goals in key areas such as wages, hours, and working conditions, organizations which replaced the free and diverse Weimar Republic.  The Weimar Republic was the democracy and republican period of Germany from 1919 to 1933.  Following World War I, the republic emerged from the German revolution in November 1918." "A trade union or labor union is an organization run for and by workers who have banded together to achieve common goals in key areas such as wages, hours, and working conditions."  Now, Adolf Hitler had a labor czar.  His name was Robert Ley, L-e-y.

German Labor Front Facts Discussion Forum Encyclopedia article: "The DAF, the German Labor Front leader was Robert Ley was a Nazi Germany politician head of the German Labor Front from 1933 to 1945.  He committed suicide awaiting trial for war crimes.  He stated that the aim of his organization was to create a true social and productive community.  Now, theoretically the German Labor Front existed to act as a medium through which workers and owners could mutually represent their interests.  However, in reality it was a means by which workers were controlled. Ensuring wage demands were not made too often, wages were set by the 12 trustees of the German Labor Front," which was headed by the pay czar, or the labor czar, Robert Ley.

So Obama has a pay czar demanding compensation schedules for seven Wall Street companies by Thursday after which he will have 60 days to reject or accept and change and modify.  The big difference here is that Hitler and his boys dictated wages for the unions. Which Obama in his own way is, I guess, doing by giving them ownership of General Motors and Chrysler and so forth.  Now, once again, folks, I'm telling you: Nancy Pelosi started this.  If she didn't want to go down this road, she should not have said that there are people at these town hall meetings carrying signs with "swahstih-kahhs" on them.  And, by the way, we've looked.  We have found one picture of a protester with a swastika on the sign, and it had a line drawn through it, meaning "no."  It was not supported.  It was meaning "no."  We haven't found one beyond that, and even that one that was found has been misrepresented by people like Nancy Pelosi. Speaking of whom, let's go back to the nutroots convention in Austin, July 19th, 2008.

PELOSI:  You make America more American because of the vital participation in the process and as Mr. Doggett says, to hold elected officials accountable.  While we may not always agree on the resolution and what we have to deal with, that doesn't mean you shouldn't be persistent, dissatisfied, and relentless in making us, taking us, pulling us over to, uh, where you believe our government should be.

RUSH:  So here's Nancy Pelosi talking to the insane lunatics of the far left fringe on the websites out there, "Hey, hold us accountable! Hey, drag us and tug us and, you know, pull us over where you believe our government should be."  Now -- now, now, now -- it's people that do this are Nazis.  Lloyd Doggett is who she was talking about, the guy got run out of his own town hall meeting with questions he didn't want to answer.

BREAK TRANSCRIPT

RUSH: All right, let's go back to the audio sound bites.  Wolf Blitzer on Friday on CNN's Situation Room tried to make a point of fairness with The Forehead, as his commentator/analyst, but it didn't work.

BLITZER:  Rush Limbaugh makes the point -- and I'll throw it to Paul Begala -- that, you know, he started making these comparisons after Nancy Pelosi said some of these protesters -- some of these, quote, "crazies" -- were carrying swastikas.

BEGALA:  The speaker was reporting the truth.

RUSH:  That's Begala there saying, "The speaker was reporting the truth." We've only found one picture that was a Nazi sign with a slash through it. Begala went on...

BLITZER:  Should the Democrats simply ignore a comment like this from Rush Limbaugh?

BEGALA:  No!  I, months ago, sent out a memo saying Rush Limbaugh was the leader of the Republican Party.  He helped to whip up this frenzy.  When we did it, we knew there was one big risk:  If a leading national Republican stoop up and denounced Rush Limbaugh, he or she would become the leader of the Republican Party -- and I was, frankly ,worried that maybe Mike Huckabee or Sarah Palin would do that.  Bill Clinton picked big fights with labor unions.  Barack Obama picked a big fight with the Clintons.  Strong leaders have to take on the entire leadership of their party.

RUSH:  Well, so, The Forehead is now finally admitting that he was behind that strategery to make me the leader of the party in order to get me denounced.  But it didn't work because I wasn't the leader of the party anyway.  Now let's move to CNN's State of the Union, John King... (interruption) What?  Mmm-hmm.  Powell was fulfilling his role set forth by the Mr. Begala because Powell did denounce me?  But Powell didn't become the leader of the party, did he?  Begala failed. (interruption) Well, I don't know that Powell wants to be the leader, but Begala said that whoever denounced me would be the automatic real leader of the party.  Now, to David Brooks, Powell is the ideal, the epitome the modern day Republican.

Democrats Set Up War Rooms, Websites to Instruct Their Zombies
They've swung into action, instructing their zombies.
August 10, 2009

BEGIN TRANSCRIPT

RUSH: Now, I have a question for Steny Hoyer and for Dick Durbin and any other Democrat.  You people really think these town hall health care protests are being coordinated by the insurance companies and the drug companies, then I have an idea for you.  Why didn't you come back from recess and hold hearings into this?  You can subpoena citizens.  You can subpoena executives.  You can subpoena lobbyists from these companies to come up. Some of these people have spoken up and some of these people have gotten beaten up.  A black conservative got beat up in Mehlville, Missouri, outside St. Louis at a Russ Carnahan event -- and none of this violence started happening until Obama dispatched his union thugs.

One thing we don't need is any hearings to understand that Obama is dispatching his own community organizer thugs -- AFL-CIO, SEIU people -- to intimidate citizens at these town hall meetings.  So if you think the insurance companies are behind all these citizen protests, then do the show trials. Do the hearings.  Subpoena the witnesses.  Put up or shut up.  Hit back twice as hard against Americans like you've been told to by the White House.  Now, let's go through some recent developments here.  First from TheHill.com.  "House Democratic leaders have set up a healthcare 'war room' to help their rank-and-file members navigate a tumultuous August in which they find themselves on the defensive on their signature issue."  Let me tell you what happened in Missouri.  There's a congressman there named Ike Skelton.

And he has canceled, he's not going to have any town hall meetings which is probably going to be the modus operandi for most of the Democrats in the House and the Senate as they go back.  But you know where I found out about this?  I found out about this in a letter to the editor of a local Missouri paper!  The journalists at the paper didn't think it was a big enough story on its own that Skelton wasn't going to have any town meetings. But they did publish a small, little letter to the editor from somebody who had called Skelton's office to find out where there was going to be one.  Skelton's office said, "Uh, there's not going to be any."  So why do you need a war room? Why do you need a war room? Why do you have to have plans here to "help their rank-and-file members navigate a tumultuous August" if you're going to not have the meetings in the first place?

"The effort is being run out of Majority Leader Steny Hoyer's (D-Md.) office, but is being manned around the clock by a rotation of leadership and key committee staff members, according to leadership aides.  Although the war room, or 'healthcare hotline,' is primarily designed to give members the ability to get immediate health policy answers and updates from leadership offices..." Do you understand what this is?  These guys still haven't read it!  Most of them still haven't read it. When they're out there, they are to call the war room for on-the-spot help, getting answers to questions that might be asked of them.  "[T]op Democrats are also planning to use it to help their colleagues respond effectively to political and press attacks, if necessary."  Press attacks?

What press attacks?  Are they serious?  Press attacks.  Okay.  So we got a war room set up in the House of Representatives.  Now, there's this: The White House has set a new website called Reality Check.  "Dear Friend, Anyone that's watched the news in the past few days knows that health insurance reform is a hot topic..." By the way, have you noticed how in just the past couple weeks it's become health "insurance" reform?  I'll explain why in just a second.  "[A]nd that rumors and scare tactics have only increased as more people engage with the issue. Given a lot of the outrageous claims floating around, it's time to make sure everyone knows the facts about the security and stability you get with health insurance reform.

"That's why we've launched a new online resource -- WhiteHouse.gov/RealityCheck -- to help you separate fact from fiction and share the truth about health insurance reform. Here's a few of the reality check videos you can find on the site," and then they put the link.  They've even got a logo here.  This one looks like a license plate.  Health Insurance Reform Reality Check. "But don't be misled. We know the status quo is unsustainable. If we do nothing, millions more Americans will be denied insurance because of pre-existing conditions, or see their coverage suddenly dropped if they become seriously ill." This is the second website.  The first website is a snitch website, and now they've got this Reality Check website -- and there's a third thing that's going on and this is about congressional visits.

It's astroturfing.  It consists of two things: Obama sending out marching orders about having citizens visit congressmen.  There are two parts to this.  The first e-mail asks people to sign up to visit their congressman on another website and the second part of it is a flier you get when you sign up. It's a PDF file, but you get a flier when you sign up which gives instructions on how to behave and what to say when you go visit your congressman.  This is Obama attempting to enlist his own supporters, Democrat supporters, to go and calm these members of Congress, one-on-one and tell them how much they're loved and how much they're appreciated and how much health care reform is supported to counter the mobs and the Nazis that are showing up at the public town hall meetings.  This website is "Organizing for America" with the Obama logo and everything.

"Dear friend... "All throughout August, our members of Congress are back in town. Insurance companies and partisan attack groups are stirring up fear with false rumors about the President's plan, and it's extremely important that folks like you speak up now. So we've cooked up an easy, powerful way for you to make a big impression: Office Visits for Health Reform. All this week, [Organizing for America] members like you will be stopping by local congressional offices to show our support for insurance reform." They don't even bother to put "health" in that sentence.  "You can have a quick conversation with the local staff, tell your personal story, or even just drop off a customized flyer and say that reform matters to you. ...

"As you've probably seen in the news, special interest attack groups are stirring up partisan mobs with lies about health reform, and it's getting ugly. Across the country, members of Congress who support reform are being shouted down, physically assaulted, hung in effigy, and receiving death threats." Has anybody seen a member of Congress physically assaulted? Has anybody seen a member of Congress "hung in effigy"?  Now, how many times was George W. Bush hung in effigy?  You want to talk about death threats? We got books and a movie on the assassination of George W. Bush, and where was the outrage?  And these gutless wonders members of Congress are running around talking about death threats?

"We can't let extremists hijack this debate, or confuse Congress about where the people stand. Office Visits for Health Reform are our chance to show that the vast majority of American voters know that the cost of inaction is too high to bear," blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.  The second part, if you do as instructed, and proceed to their website to schedule an office visit for health reform, after you sign up, then they send a little PDF file: Office Visits for Health Reform Guide. "Before your visit, call ahead, print out the attached flier and write out why this matters to you and take it with you to your office visit with your congressman."  This is Organizing for America.  This is a virtual Astroturf script for visiting your congressman, sent out to all the leftist supports of Obama.  And then, you know, what to do during your visit.

For example: "Introduce yourself to your congressman.  Office resources vary so you may be speaking to the office director, caseworker, or simply the person at the front desk.  Make sure that whoever greets you knows that you're a constituent, you're there to express your support..." They are having to send out multiple e-mails, war rooms, websites to instruct their brain-dead zombies on how to go out and show support for this abomination! It's the Night of the Living Dead, in the daytime! Obama zombies marching around with little instructions and pamphlets and manuals to their congressional offices with instructions on how about the nice?  And then after the visit, "Share the details of your visit.  It's really important for our campaign to hear how these conversations go and how the staff responded.  Tell us how it went. Go to MyBarackObama.com office feedback."

A fourth website! You got the Organizing for America website, you got the health care now whatever.  And why is all this happening?  Rasmussen Reports: "When it comes to health care decisions, 51% of the nation's voters fear the federal government more than private insurance companies."   Come on, American people! Get there faster, get there faster.  "Fifty-one percent of the nation's voters fear the federal government more than they fear private insurance companies," so now we know why Nancy and the gang are out there demonizing and villainizing the insurance companies.  "The latest Rasmussen Reports national phone survey finds that 41% hold the opposite view and fear the insurance companies more."  So wherever you look in this debate, Obama and the Democrats are on the negative side, and they're having to lie and rally and intimidate people into supporting.

The people who oppose this are fully informed, up to speed, showing up on their own volition. They're certainly not having to go to four websites to find out where to go, what to say when you get there, and what to tell people after you leave. And in the meantime, the White House and his staff put out this notion that it is us stirring up mobs -- when formal marching orders are coming from three different White House websites, and the House Democrats have their own war room to help deal with it. (interruption) I don't know. I don't know that David Brooks knows any of this. I don't care whether David Brooks knows any of this.  He's just the token conservative at the New York Times.

White House Threatens Rush Again
Press Sec'y Gibbs says your host is on "thin ice."
August 10, 2009

BEGIN TRANSCRIPT

RUSH: These guys have threatened me again.  This was last Friday at the White House, Jake Tapper -- this the presidential daily brief. Jake Tapper says, "Rush Limbaugh went on a very long speech which he compared Democrats to Nazis, the president to Hitler, and I'm wondering if the president's seen any of this.  Obviously the Nazi imagery has been condemned by Jewish groups, and I'm wondering if he feels anything about the language being used this way."

GIBBS:  Any time you make references to what happened in Germany in the Thirties and Forties, I think you're talking about an event that has no equivalent.  And I think any time anyone ventures to compare anything to that, they're on thin ice and it's best not deployed.  We can have a discussion in our democracy about where we want to go and why or why not we want to take certain steps.  The president strongly believes we can do so without yelling at each other, without pushing each other, without degrading each other and do so in a way, I think, that respects the difference in all of our opinions.

RUSH:  Now, you may have realized, folks, if you're listening the first hour of the program that I was slightly angered when I started. This is exactly why.  Nobody was comparing Obama to Hitler.  We were comparing Obama's health care to Germany's health care in socialized Nazi Germany.  But, if I am "on thin ice," is Nancy Pelosi is thin ice?  Nancy Pelosi... Jake Tapper, do you know this yet?  Do you know that Nancy Pelosi started this?  She called friends of mine -- audience members of this show decent Americans protesting the takeover of one-sixth of their economy by the government by a man who has a five-minute career -- Nazis.  Nancy Pelosi, the speaker of the House, said they were running around carrying signs with "swahstih-kahhs," as she said, on them.  So I simply responded in kind.  And old Gibbs here wants to say I was comparing the genocidal Hitler to Obama. That's just typical of this bunch, to take that position on it.  I was comparing one socialist to another, pure and simple.  But if I'm "on thin ice," then Nancy Pelosi must be on thin ice as well.  I'll move forward to audio sound bites... Yyeah, let's go to number four and five and six.  Yes, because I happened to dominate the Friday night newscasts.  Chip Reid, CBS News, says that conservative websites and Rush Limbaugh are whipping activists into a frenzy.

REID:  Websites of conservative groups that list Democratic town halls and urge critics to go and be heard!  And conservatives like Rush Limbaugh, who, Democrats say, are whipping activists into a frenzy, comparing President Obama's health care plan to Nazi policies.

RUSH ARCHIVE: ... Adolf Hitler, like Barack Obama, also ruled by dictate. ...

REID:  To give an idea of just how nasty this battle over health care reform has become, Capitol Hill Police say they are now investigating a possible death threat by a constituent against a Democratic congressman from North Carolina.

RUSH:  Yeah, we heard about this, and this guy. Then after that said there were hundreds of congressman getting death threats.  This "Adolf Hitler, like Obama, ruled by dictate," what would you call all of these czars?  What would you call firing the CEO of General Motors?  What would you call setting up a "pay czar" and telling the pay czar to determine who can make what?

Linda Douglass, Obama Minister of Propaganda, Hung Out to Dry
Ms. Douglass is contradicted by the facts and the video.
August 10, 2009

BEGIN TRANSCRIPT

RUSH: Linda Douglass, the... Sheez, what would we call her?  She's the health care minister of information. Minister of propaganda of health care information.  She was on CNN on Sunday during Howard Kurtz's Reliable Sources segment.  And he spoke with her.  And Howard Kurtz said, "What did you make of Rush Limbaugh saying the health care logo in the administration resembles..." (laughing) I didn't say it "resembles a swastika."  I said that the whole Nazi logo there and Obama's health care logo looked similar and we morphed them on the website.  He asked Linda Douglass about this.

DOUGLASS:  I just don't even know what to say about something like that.  I mean, you know, eh -- and people are saying crazy things right now.  You know, the -- the -- here's the thing.  Americans are suffering under the rising costs of health care.  They are paying 30% more out of pocket than they did.  It's threatening their jobs. They are being denied insurance coverage by --

KURTZ:  And we're debating that.

DOUGLASS:  -- all these crazy rules.

RUSH:  They are, let's see... Threatening their jobs? They don't have any jobs.  Then Kurtz literally destroyed her on -- on the whole notion that Obama's not for single-payer and that there is no snitch website.

DOUGLASS:  They took pieces of sound bites from different periods of time.  They put a Chyron -- that's the words on the screen -- that said, "wants to eliminate private insurance," to go along with these sound bites that they cobbled together, and our point is that he's saying exactly the opposite. His current plan --

KURTZ:  But apparently he had a different position when he was a senator, and that's legitimate to throw out there.

DOUGLASS:  He didn't have a different position when he was a senator.

KURTZ: What do you mean he didn't have a different position?

DOUGLASS:  But the point is, the president --

KURTZ:  He talked about -- first he talked about single payer supporting that. That was years ago.  And then he talked about making a transition over ten or 15 years to fully government insurance.

DOUGLASS:  What he talked about early on was, look, if he could start all over again, maybe it would be fine to have a single payer system but we're not going to start all over again.

KURTZ: Right.

DOUGLASS: There's a lot of misinformation and there is as I said in the video a lot of disinformation, that's information that's meant to mislead you.

RUSH:  Ms. Douglass, your guy is hanging you out to dry here.  You're on the flagpole and you're nearly nude, Linda or your clothes have been off. You have no cover left.  Well, you've got Jan Schakowsky out there saying this is the prelude to single payer.  She's the Democrat from Illinois.  You've got Barney Frank saying it and you've got Obama saying it numerous times in the campaign and all the way back to 2003 when he was in the Illinois Senate talking about it!  Folks, I have right here in my formerly nicotine-stained fingers -- while everybody is sidetracked here discussing Nazis (and, of course, that's me, too, but I'm going to get it back on track here. W Obama has on the back burner here is this: Page 16 states: If you have insurance at the time of the bill becoming law and change your insurance, you'll be required to take a similar plan.  If that is not available, you'll be required to take the government option.

Page 22 mandates audits of all employers that self-insure.  Page 29. It admits on page 29 that your health care will be rationed.  Page 30: A government economy will decide what treatments and benefits you get, and unlike an insurer, there is... Well, there's an appeals process that you don't even want to mess with that.  Page 58:  Every person will be issued a national ID health card.  Page 59: The federal government will have direct real-time access to all individual bank accounts for electronic funds transfer.  Page 239: The bill will reduce physician services for Medicaid, meaning there will be Medicaid cuts.  The president is out there saying that there won't be.  Page 427: Government mandates program that orders end-of-life treatment.  Government dictates how your life ends.  The Washington Post read the section, Section 1233 and came to the same disturbing conclusion.

Page 429:  Advanced care planning consult will be used to dictate treatment as patients' health deteriorates.  This can include an order for end-of-life plans.  The order will be from the government.  Now, Ms. Douglas you can go out there and say that the president's it is not for single payer, despite the president saying so.  See, this is the problem, Linda.  The problem is we don't know what to believe because the president is saying everything.  He doesn't have a plan so when he says something's not in the plan, we don't know what he's talking about.  The only plan out there is the House plan and the president hadn't said that that's the plan he's talking about.  He keeps talking about his plan.  I haven't seen his plan; I don't know what it is.  If his plan differs from the House plan, he better say so, because he's contradicting himself, and you're out there being forced to say things that can be factually disproven simply looking at the House bill.

I mean, if there's a provision in there that says, "If you have a private plan and there's the slightest change in it -- change of coverage, change of fee, change of premium -- then you are out of it and you gotta go government option..." Without even having that, Linda, you know and I know that if this debacle ever happens, the first thing that's going to happen is a lot of businesses are gonna off-load their health care plans to the public option.  They're simply not going to make it available to their employees.  Most employee health care coverage comes from the employer.  If the employer says, "I'm outta here," they have no choice but than to go government option.  So these Democrats -- Barney Frank, Jan Schakowsky, a number of others say -- who say, "Yeah, we can't get it all at once. Ten to 15 years, it is the objective," and everybody who's looked at this knows it.  So when you get sent out there as the minister of health care information propaganda to deny all this, it's not good for you.  Now, here's this on the snitch website. Howard Kurtz says, "Republican Senator John Cornyn has asked the White House to stop the snitch website, says this could raise the specter of a data collection program."

DOUGLASS:  There's no list being compiled.  The information is not being retained.  The sources are not being tracked.  But if there's a rumor going around, as there have been many rumors going around, we say, "Let's take a look at the rumor and see what the truth is."

RUSH:  Yeah.  Mmm-hmm.  There are people that don't believe this.  By the way, let's go back and listen to Obama, a flashback here.  This is 2007.  We're going to go ahead here and stay in order, Mike.  2007 in March at the Service Employees International Union health care forum. These are Obama's buds.  This is his group.  These are the people he wants to know what he really intends to do.  This is 2007.

OBAMA 2007: My commitment is to make sure that we've got universal health care for all Americans by the end of my first term as president.  I would hope that we can set up a system that allows those who can go through their employer to access a federal system or a state pool of some sort, but I don't think we're going to be able to eliminate employer coverage immediately.  There's going to be potentially some transition process.  I can envision a decade out or 15 years out or 20 years out.

RUSH:  March 2007.  I mean if you're going to eliminate employer coverage, where else you gotta go?  Obama, public option.  Let's go back to 2003 at an AFL-CIO conference.

OBAMA 2003:  I happen to be a proponent of single payer universal health care.

AUDIENCE: (applause)

OBAMA 2003: I see no reason why the United States of America, the wealthiest country in the history of the world, is spending 14% -- 14% of its gross national product on health care -- cannot provide basic health insurance to everybody.  And that's what Jim's talking about when he says, "Everybody in, nobody out," a single payer health care plan, universal health care plan.  That's what I'd like to see but as all of you know we may not get there immediately because first we've got to take back the White House and we gotta take back the Senate and we gotta take back the House.

AUDIENCE: (applause)

RUSH:  All right, now, he's not a community organizer here.  He's not elected official both times, in the Illinois Senate in 2003 and the United States Senate in 2007.  And you'll note that three things had to happen and they all three have before he can start.  He had to take over the House, had to take over the Senate, and had to take over the White House.  So Linda Douglass, when you go out there and say, "He's not for single payer! He is if he could start over..." I mean, I don't know. I don't know how I would react if my job was to have to lie for somebody.  I don't know how my conscience could deal with it.

Show Us Your Plan, Mr. President
He doesn't have a plan. How can he tell you what's in it?
August 10, 2009

BEGIN TRANSCRIPT

RUSH:  I discussed with you last week a guy at Andrew Breitbart's Web page, BigHollywood.Breitbart.com. He used to write for a late night show and he studies them now for their impact on the youths of American pop culture.  And he's been chronicling how some of the late-night comedians, particularly Jon Stewart, are now starting to make fun of Obama.  As an example: "Last week's Daily Show also featured a montage of the President refuting criticisms of his health care plan. After the string of presidential rebuttals Stewart concluded, 'You know a sales pitch is in trouble when it starts with 'Look, you've got to trust me. We're not going to kill your grandparents.'" Now, that wouldn't have happened two months ago or one month ago.

From The Politico yesterday: "President Barack Obama is warning Americans not to believe 'rumors' that the health reform initiative he's pushing will lead to a government-run health care system or push Medicare recipients to die rather than running up a hefty tab for medical services. 'Let me start by dispelling the outlandish rumors that reform will promote euthanasia, or cut Medicaid, or bring about a government takeover of health care. That's simply not true," Obama said in his weekly radio and Internet address..." Here's my question, and I'm dead serious.  How can Obama say what his plan does when he does not have a plan?  This is not insignificant.  Obama does not have a plan.

When Obama says what is or isn't in his plan, it's a head fake because there isn't a plan!  The only plan that's out there is the House plan, 1100 pages.  There are four different Senate plans but we haven't seen 'em all 'cause they're still in committee.  Barack Obama cannot produce a plan that spells out anything.  Now, if he wants to rely on the House legislation, he should say so.  If he's making comments... But he better be very careful, because there are provisions galore for factoring your death when you reach a certain seasoned citizen age.  There are facts and proposals and pages galore of how health care is going to be rationed.  But, again, the president is misleading the American people because when he says what "his plan" does or doesn't do, he doesn't have a plan!

The White House has not put out a plan. (interruption) Have you seen it, Mr. Snerdley? (interruption)  Well, I don't know that the Democrat plan is his plan by virtue of him being head of the party because what he's saying about that plan isn't true!  This is why I'm making the point.  He says that there's no euthanasia in it.  Well, maybe there's no euthanasia by actually giving them hemlock but there's euthanasia by denying them the medical treatment based on certain things.  What else? It's in there.  If he says it's not in there then it can't be the House plan he's talking about.  If he says, "There's no way you're going to lose your private insurance or your doctor; if you like it you can keep it," he can't be talking about the House plan because you will lose your private insurance and your doctor. It's on page 16 in the House plan.

I'm just saying: How can Obama say what his plan does when he doesn't have a plan?  He can't produce one that spells out anything.  So if he's relying on the House bill like you point out, then he should say so.  Otherwise he doesn't know what he's talking about.  Otherwise he's just lying to everybody.  Did we all make this up, all these concerns we have?  Did we all make this up?  No.  We read the House bill.  Now, he's telling us that what we've read is not in the plan.  Okay. Not to be broken record, but where in hell is the plan, then?  Would somebody show me the freaking plan?  It's just like I want to see the plan for jobs.  We've got a Porkulus stimulus bill, but I want to see the plan for jobs.  He says we're in recovery and we're being rescued.  I want to see it! I don't see it happening out there.  What is he looking at?  Government workers being hired like in California?

California hired 3600 more government workers the other day.  Now, people at Power Line, our good buddies over there John Hinderaker and Scott Johnson, Paul Mirengoff. (Maybe it's Hinderaker.  I've not heard their names pronounced.) "An Honest Look at the House Dems' End-of-Life Counseling Regime -- Democratic politicians and the  [State-Controlled Media] consider it a given that concerns about the 'end-of-life counseling' provision in Secion (sic) 1233 of a House-drafted version of health care legislation are nothing but the unfounded product of right-wing fear-mongering. But Charles Lane of the Washington Post... has taken a careful look at Section 1233 and finds that he too is concerned. The federal govenment (sic) should not be in the business of skewing end-of-life counsel, and thus end-of-life decisions." The Washington Post has looked at it, and even their guy is a little troubled here about where this could lead.  So, Mr. President, even your State-Controlled Media has seen what you say isn't there.

BREAK TRANSCRIPT

RUSH:  Well, Charles Lane of the Washington Post says: "You don't have to be a right-wing wacko to question" the presidents approach here on end-of-life decisions in the health care bill.  So the Washington Post, state-controlled, is providing a little problem for the president here but at the same time they're helping out and Preparing for swine flu's return. It's going to be worse than ever! Once we get to the wintertime, just in time in the vote on health care, swine flu will ravage your children at school.

BREAK TRANSCRIPT

RUSH: Now, what people have said is, there is. There's end-of-life counseling, mandatory government end-of-life counseling in the House health care bill.  Charles Lane, Washington Post: "Ideally, the delicate decisions about how to manage life's end would be made in a setting that is neutral in both appearance and fact. Yes, it's good to have a doctor's perspective. But Section 1233 [of the House bill] goes beyond facilitating doctor input to preferring it. Indeed, the measure would have an interested party -- the government -- recruit doctors to sell the elderly on living wills, hospice care and their associated providers, professions and organizations.

"You don't have to be a right-wing wacko to question that approach," writes Mr. Lane. So it's why I say, when the president starts talking about his plan, what the hell is it?  'Cause he's talking about something nobody's seen.  What we've seen is not what he's talking about, unless he's lying.

Obama Apologizes to Canada
He doesn't want Canadians insulted by our debates.
August 10, 2009

BEGIN TRANSCRIPT

RUSH: Just mind-boggling, as is this sound bite coming up.  Our esteemed president is in Guadalajara, Mexico.  He's down there with the prime minister of Canada and the president of Mexico, Felipe Calderon, and they're having a news conference to discuss the efforts made by all three nations to get our arms around global warming and climate change and stop it.  A reporter said to President Obama, "President Obama, health care has been an issue of tremendous debate in your country and Canadians have looked on with fascination as our health care health care system has become a political football in your country.  Are there any elements of the Canadian health care system that are worth emulating in the United States?"  Now, listen to this.

OBAMA:  We are having a vigorous debate in the United States, and I think that's a healthy thing.  I've said that the -- the Canadian model works for Canada, it would not work for the United States, in part simply because we've evolved differently.  I suspect that you Canadians will continue to get dragged in by, uh, those who oppose reform, even though I've said nothing about Canadian health care reform. Uh, I don't find Canadians particularly scary, but, I guess, uhh... (pauses)

REPORTERS: (silence)

OBAMA: Some of the opponents of, uh, (nervous laugh) reform think that they make a good bogeyman. Uh, I think that's a mistake.

RUSH:  I think what just happened here is that the president apologized to Canada for opponents of his health care slandering their health care.  Is that what we just heard?  We did just hear this, my friends. The president of the United States just apologized to Canada for you and all the rest of us who don't like his health care system 'cause it's too similar to Canada's. (laughs)

Rep. Scott Screams at Doctor
Scenes like this are playing out all across the country.

BEGIN TRANSCRIPT

RUSH: In Atlanta last week town hall meeting constituent urologist Dr. Brian Hill asked Representative David Scott of Georgia, "Why are you voting for a health plan that's shown not to work in Massachusetts, and why are you going to institute that in a statewide, nationwide manner?"SCOTT:  I haven't voted on any bill.

DR. Hill:  Are you planning on voting on that bill?

SCOTT:  I don't know.

DR. Hill:  That's an easy-out response.

CROWD: (groans)

DR. Hill: Do you support a government-run option?  How about that?

SCOTT:  Yes, I do.  And I'm listening to MY constituents, okay?  These are people who live in the 13th Congressional District, who vote in this district.  That's who I've got to respond to, okay?

DR. Hill: That's me.

SCOTT: (screaming) This is not a health care event!  You've made the choice to come here!  Not a single one of you had the decency to call my office and set up for a meeting, okay?  Then do that.  Do that!  But don't, don't come and take advantage of what these individuals have done!  You want a meeting with me on health care, I'll give it to you!

RUSH:  All right, so that's the congressman, David Scott, screaming at a doctor in a town hall meeting.  It turns out the doctor's not a Republican. He's an independent.  He's concerned, and he was treated like dirt by his congressman.

DR. Hill:  I did not go to a meeting to create any problems.  I went to the meeting to literally ask a question that I thought was very, very important for my patients.  I've asked, "Is he going to be having health care forums? Is he going to have an area where we can actually address his thoughts and express our ideas and our thoughts as well?" and I was told no, and that's why I said to myself, "I then need to go to an area where a where we we've got access to him. We depend on our congressmen to really do what's right for us and I just really don't see that happening.

RUSH:  It's happening all over the country. People are not taking it. When a congressman starts yelling at you for being impunity and a snob and being disrespectful that's when you say, "Why don't you just get on your jet and fly home then fly back to Washington? We don't need you here."  By the way, Nancy Pelosi and Steny Hoyer have an op-ed in USA Today today. The headline says it all: "'Un-American' Attacks Cannot Derail Health Care Debate."  So those of you showing up at town hall meetings, Nancy Pelosi first calls you Nazis by saying you're running around with swastika signs, and now she and Steny Hoyer in an op-ed have said you are "un-American."

Benchmarks for President Obama
On Afghanistan and the economy, El Rushbo helps out.
August 10, 2009

BEGIN TRANSCRIPT

RUSH: I've got this: "Obama Sharpens War Goals in Afghanistan."  This sets up the benchmarks. He's got no benchmarks in Afghanistan.  Remember all benchmarks we had to have for the surge and the success in Iraq?  There are no benchmarks.  "Obama next month will send Congress a new plan for measuring success in Afghanistan and Pakistan," but it will not include victory, I guess, because we can't say we're at war with them!  "In an effort to build confidence among wavering Democrats and give sharper direction to a costly and increasingly bloody war, the administration has begun seeking feedback on the plan from lawmakers in their staffs.  The finished version will be delivered to Capitol Hill by September 24th.  'There is an intense impatience here for results and I think...'"

So we have a surge. Basically we have a surge going on in Afghanistan with no objective.  So Obama in a month has got to put out what his new objective is.  Lee Cary at the American Thinker says, this is sort of "bassackwards," isn't it?  You come up with the objective and then you do the surge?  But we've ordered the surge and we don't have an objective yet.  How do you not have an objective! Remember these people demanding an endgame in Iraq, demanding what we were going to do to get out of there, all these demands, all these benchmarks of the Iraqi government, and Obama has doubled troop levels and has this big surge going on over there without an objective!  So let me help out.  I have studied President Obama.

I have some goals that he can put in his paper that he's going to release on September 24th.  Here's what he should say: "I will create or save 100,000 new Afghani freedom fighters before the end of the year. For every car bomb that is detonated, I will punch back twice as hard. I will lower the mountains where the Taliban hides. I will inspire Afghanistan poppy growers to plant different crops by telling them, 'We are the ones we've been waiting for.' I will destroy their economy, too," and if that doesn't work with the poppy growers, Obama can nationalize the poppy farms and turn 'em over to the United Auto Workers and send union leaders from America over to run the poppy fields and collect the profits.

After five years, the operation will be so bogged down with red tape, strikes, and stalled negotiations with drug lords, the whole poppy industry will collapse under its own weight.  Just apply liberalism, Obama liberal socialism to the whole poppy problem in Afghanistan and you can kill it, by giving it to the UAW and the Service Employees International Union.  So let's go back to the economy.  The deficit grew by $181 billion in July.  Well, we need some benchmarks here in the economy, too.  We have no benchmarks in Afghanistan.  I just helped out, gave some.  My favorite is lowering the mountains where the Taliban hides so that our troops can more easily get in there and wipe 'em out.  Obama would lower the mountains like he is going to lower sea levels.  Our troops won't have to climb as high, and the Taliban won't know what's happening to them.  Can you imagine being on a mountain and all of a sudden the thing starts sinking on you?

We'll drop little pamphlets say, "Obama is doing this until you give up, your mountain is going to continue to sink."  All right.  Three reality-based benchmarks to judge Obama's handling of the economy:  job creation, tax revenues, and spending budget deficits.  Using those three benchmarks we've got utter failure.  If the economy is not producing jobs, there's no growth in tax revenue.  Right?  And if spending isn't controlled when jobs aren't being produced, then Obama is failing.  Everything collapses like a house of cards, which is what is happening.  We know that the Porkulus bill has not produced jobs.  We know that Congress has been on a reckless spending binge.  Tax revenues are down.  We have a catastrophe in the making, and we are watching it, we are witnessing it.  This recession will not end until jobs are created, tax revenues increase, and spending is slashed.  Until that time, we'll have a few periods of less pain here and there, but the disease has not been cured.  I love helping out this way: "Okay, here's how we measure Obamas economic success," and there isn't any, we pronounce it a failure, "and my advice and goals for Afghanistan for Obama to announce on September 24th."  What a service we do here.

Mobsters Talk to Their Mobfather
The President calls you a mob.
We call you America.

RUSH: Sophia in Perry Hall, Maryland, great to have you on the EIB Network.  Hello.

CALLER:  It's an honor to speak with you --

RUSH:  Thank you.

CALLER:  -- and I just wanted to let you know that I'm 52 years old.  This is going to be my first protest.  I'm scared to death but I'm doing it anyway.  It's going to be over a hundred degrees today.  I've got hot flashes after roasting a chicken, but my handmade sign and I will be out there.  -

RUSH:  Where are you going? Who are you protesting? Where are you going?

CALLER:  (unintelligible) and Senator Ben Cardin, who at least had the courtesy to manufacture a meeting with his constituents today.

RUSH:  Yeah, you know, Cardin has read the polls.

CALLER:  (laughing.)

RUSH:  No, he has. You know, that first town meeting he had with the guy who stood up and said, "Are you going to take my health insurance away or tax me if I don't?  If I don't want to pay for it, if I don't want to have my own health insurance and this guy..." Cardin didn't deny it, and there was really a lot of bad feedback, and so Cardin last week came out... He's one of the few Democrats, Claire McCaskill is the other, who is saying that the people at the town hall meetings have legitimate concerns and it's proper they should show up. He's one of the two people not demonizing you and others, and that's why he has "manufactured" this second meeting, as you say. Which is very clever on your party, by the way, Sophia.

CALLER:  Thank you, Rush.

RUSH:  You're welcome.

CALLER:  And at least he is one of two of our Maryland senators who had the courtesy to have a meeting.  Barbara Mikulski, granted, she has a broken ankle, but she could sit down and vote for Sotomayor, she can sit down and listen to her constituents.

RUSH:  They don't want to.

CALLER:  I know they don't want to.

RUSH:  They don't want to.  Well, so you're going to go be part of a Nazi unruly mob today, according to the Obama White House?

CALLER:  Uh, I'm going to be a well dressed mobster, and I'm damn proud of it.

RUSH:  Thank you.  Well, you have the blessing of the Mobfather.

CALLER: (giggles) That's all I need!

RUSH:  Thanks, Sophia.

CALLER:  Thank you.

RUSH:  Have a great time.  Ray in Council Bluffs, Iowa.  Hi, Ray.

CALLER:  Hi. It's an honor, Rush.  I was just wondering if the president or any of the Democrats could explain the paradox that the president laid out that our current health care system is "breaking America," but if we like it, we can keep it.  Either it is or it isn't.

RUSH:  You know, hot damn! That is an excellent question.

CALLER: Yeah.

RUSH: It's so bad, it's so rotten, it's unsustainable that we've gotta overturn it, but if you like yours you can keep it.

CALLER:  Right.  So forget the details. He can't even lay out what he wants to do.

RUSH:  Of course he can't lay out what he wants to do.  That's another truth.  He will not lay out what he really wants to do.  Look, I went through this twice last week.  They are lying about all this because they are not the American people.  They do not represent the core of the American people.  This plan is not what the core of the American people have in mind for their lives and for their future, and Obama knows it. So he has to lie about it; Pelosi has to lie about it. They must lie about this. They must lie about their entire agenda, folks. It is not an agenda that is supported by anywhere near half the country, much less a majority.  But that is a great, great question.  If the health care problem in this country is so bad, how come you get to keep yours, if you want to? Well, the answer is you won't get to keep it.  The simplest answer I can give you is you will not be able to keep it, but I love the question.  Laurie in feather, Texas, you're next, hello.

CALLER:  Hello, Rush.  It's such a honor to speak with you, I appreciate you taking my call.

RUSH:  Thank you.

CALLER:  I have a question.  Have we reached the point where we need to be afraid of the Obama administration?  Should we be afraid for our safety, if we go on to the White House snitch site and put in our own name and address and say, "Dang right I'm against this and tell them why"? I mean, I've never felt the need to ask this question before, but have we reached that point?  Is there real danger?

RUSH:  I think you need to be afraid for your freedom.  I think you need to be on guard for your freedom and your liberty.  That's what's at stake with the Obama administration and the radical-left leadership of the Democrat Party and Congress.  The safety stuff, it's spotty, but wherever there is violence at these town hall meetings, it's bought and paid for by Obama union people.  I mean, they're the ones committing it.

A Brief Moment of Pessimism
For those of you who crave some despair, here you go.
August 10, 2009

BEGIN TRANSCRIPT

RUSH: John in East Brunswick, New Jersey, hello, sir, thanks for waiting.

CALLER:  How you doing, Rush?

RUSH:  Pretty well, sir.  Thank you.

CALLER:  Thank you for taking my call, and thanks for all you do.

RUSH:  I appreciate that.  Thank you.

CALLER:  A couple things I want to say.  First of all, these idiots are going to pass this bill because they don't really care what any of us say and when it fails -- and we both know it's going to fail -- they're going to do the same thing they did with the stimulus package and tell everybody how they didn't realize how bad it was and it was the Republicans that caused the health care to be horrific and whatnot.  They'll do the same thing they always do.

RUSH:  Well, that's a fatalistic attitude about this, and I can't afford to have that kind of attitude here.  If I had that kind of attitude then I would have to resign.  You know, I'd have to quit.  See, I disagree.  I think the Democrats can get this done without one Republican vote.  If they do it, there's going to be hell to pay.  Now, here's the counterbalance to it, though, folks.  Look, I've had enough of these calls past two weeks to understand something.  Some of you just love bad, end-of-the-world news.  I'm going to give you some.  You just love it. If you want your pessimism verified and validated, I'm going to do it for you.  All right?  If that's what you want.  Because Snerdley keeps giving these calls, "Oh, no, Rush! Democrats are going to get away with it. They're going to destroy it. They're gonna blame Republicans, and we're never going to win another election."

Here's the counterbalance to my saying Democrats will pay for this debacle.  Let's deal with the Blue Dogs, because for the past last week I focused on the Blue Dogs and I warned them: "If you guys vote for this while you're out there trying to make yourselves out to be fiscal conservatives and you vote for this you're nothing but a radical leftist like the rest of your party, and you are going to pay for it come 2010." But maybe they won't.  If Obama can marshal all of these people to run out to these town hall meetings and so forth, what about voter fraud in 2010?  What if you are a Blue Dog Democrat and your dilemma is, "Do I vote for this thing and risk the wrath of my constituents, or do I vote against it and risk the wrath of Pelosi and Rahm Emanuel and the president?"

And Pelosi and Rahm Emanuel call you in and say, "What's your problem?"

"Well, I got a dilemma, my constituents hate this plan and I want to be reelected."

Rahm Emanuel and Pelosi and Obama can say to any Blue Dog or any other candidate, "Well, I can find a way to get you reelected. Just call ACORN.  We'll simply cheat.  We'll register all kinds of people in your district. We'll get you the votes on election night.  Nobody can stop us."

So what I'm saying is: They can do what they want and get away with voter fraud the next election and not pay for it.  Now, if you're a Blue Dog Democrat, and your leadership gives you the option of: "Vote with us and benefit from election fraud so you can stay in office, or vote against us and it's sayonara, we'll see you later, don't be surprised if an SEIU van is seen near your home sometime," the Blue Dog Democrat is going to say, "Well, if you can guarantee my reelection -- with ACORN mobs and so forth out there registering voters -- I have nothing to lose by voting for this."

Now, I can be just as easily pessimistic, folks, if you want me to be pessimistic.  I, frankly, think this is a long way from being over, and I'm telling you that this plan does not embody and reflect the heart and soul of the United States of America.  This plan is rejected by the heart and soul of the United States of America, the backbone of this country.  The people that make it work want no part of this, and if we've gotten to the point where elections don't matter because they're all fraudulent and so forth, then what does any of this matter?  We know we haven't gotten to that point because Democrats don't win every election.  The media doesn't get its way all the time.  Maybe what I ought to do, Snerdley, is a program feature: One pessimistic comment a day to satisfy the people that want to hear it and then back to normal.

Will Obama promise to offer the Blue Dogs a job if they vote for Obama Healthcare and lose in the next election?
Obama may try to buy votes, so he can cover everyone including those who refuse to work.
