It is his right, and to some extent in the other town halls, some responsible exercise of the 2nd Amendment may be necessary to guarantee the exercise of the 1st.

However, I would also not have done so today. Whether we like it or not, there is a different “security” standard that applies to the POTUS, whether he is Republican or democrat. I would not openly carry a weapon anywhere near a presidential event. It’s a matter of personal discretion.

It’s a safe bet there is a rifle on the head of every armed non-law enforcement person within 5 miles of Obama right now.

And though I say rightfully so, it is something that everyone should keep in mind...
