There were signs comparing President Barack Obama to a Nazi and showing him with an Adolf Hitler-style mustache, but federal officials believe another sign referencing the president and his family went too far.
A man who was holding a sign reading "Death to Obama" Wednesday outside a town hall meeting on health care reform in Hagerstown, Md., has been turned over to the Secret Service.
Washington County Sheriff's Capt. Peter Lazich said the sign also read, "Death to Michelle and her two stupid kids."
Lazich said U.S. Secret Service agents took the unidentified 51-year-old man into custody Wednesday afternoon after deputies
Obama was not at the meeting held Wednesday by Maryland Democratic Sen. Ben Cardin.
Barbara Golden, special agent in charge of the agency's Baltimore field office, said Thursday that an investigation is ongoing but declined further comment. A spokesman at the agency's Washington headquarters also declined to discuss the investigation.
Police said there were no other arrests among the nearly 1,000 people, some carrying protest signs, who came to the college for the meeting or demonstrated off-campus.
Cardin's national communications director, Sue Walitsky, called the incident "unfortunate." She said she was unaware of it until Thursday morning.

While this is an ugly sentiment to express, I’m not sure how this is a crime and how it justifies arrest.

I hate that a million Americans can calmly and rationally protest the obscene attempted expansion of the Federal government, and one fool with a sharpie and a scrap of cardboard is able to bounce the day’s news cycle toward himself. Idiocy has a massive gravitational pull on the media.
BTW, anyone noticed the "Birth Certificate" issue has been sidelined b/c of the town halls and the "manufactured" outrage? Meanwhile, BHO still can't produce an AMERICAN LONG-FORM Birth Cert, and has paid appx $1M in legal fees to avoid producing said BC. Anyone with a brain can see that the "birthers" obviously have something significant here, or BHO would have taken care of it for $10...in 10 days or less.
Interesting that I didn’t see the whacko’s name in the article. Why do I get the feeling that if his name was released it would be found out he’s a liberal plant. Call it a hunch but we’ve seen a few plants in the last few days.

Hahaaaa if you want to threaten a public official, the only “legal” way is producing a movie where Bush gets shot, or just openly yelling “kill Bush” while brandishing your “kill Bush” sign.

The Secret Service did the same thing when it happened to Bush or Cheney. A kid who lived a few blocks away from where I grew up was hauled off for making a threatening forum post on some liberal forum. He got a few months in jail and a felony record. Stupid 19 year old. Great way to start out adulthood.

Speaking strictly from an academic point of view, I’d point out that what was expressed on the sign is 100% certain to happen eventually, without any intervention on anyone’s part.
Now, attempting to pin down (or accelerate) the timeline, that would be a different matter.
