Joshua has been taking the bus to his local Whole Foods in New York City every five days for the past two years. This week, he said he'll go elsewhere to fulfill his fresh vegetable and organic produce needs.

Customers are threatening to boycott Whole Foods stores after the company's CEO, John Mackey, wrote an op-ed discussing his ideas for health care reform. (Getty Images) More Photos"I will never shop there again," vowed Joshua, a 45-year-old blogger, who asked that his last name not be published.

Like many of his fellow health food fanatics, Joshua said he will no longer patronize the store after learning about Whole Foods Market Inc.'s CEO John Mackey's views on health care reform, which were made public this week in an op-ed piece he wrote for The Wall Street Journal.

I hate to say it, but this is the equivalent of the Dixie Chicks saying they are ashamed of George Bush. You have to know your customer. I agree with him, but, come on, this is WHOLE FOODS. Obama’s favorite overpriced arugula supplier.

It won’t hurt them a bit. They have AWESOME foods there. Looks good, is clean and neat, smells delicious, has fresh breads that will knock your socks off like: Sourdough, Cranberry Nut, Harvest wheat and on and on and on. Delicious cheeses with plenty of samples. Prepared foods in the deli that are yummy, yum. Seafood and salads and snacks and big chips and a bakery with delicious treats. Can eat there and buy beautiful, fresh flowers. They have all kinds of spreads for breads like fig and things like that. You can’t beat ‘em. Shop there for the best of everything. We do!!!

why would you let the customers turn you off? We shop there all the time and never once have even bothered looking at other customers. We are there for the best foods around. Why let someone run you off from a place you like??????????? I’m puzzled about that. How do you know who those customers are? Maybe they are like you and me. I don’t ask cause I don’t care. I go there for the food...not the politics, party of lack thereof of anyone else.

Some customers may be boycotting, but Mackey just gained a customer here.

What’s really scary is his views on how to reform healthcare coverage were so logical and easy to understand. How anyone could object to them unless they had been told to do so by the EXTREME LEFT FRINGE is beyond me. (That has to be it because it’s obvious the boycotters aren’t thinking for themselves.)

++++++++++++++

They were agin us, and we are for Mackey. I think Mackey wins ‘cause this is a center right nation...he’s seen the polls also - 57 agin, and 32 fer...those are winning numbers for him, imho.

Most of this guy’s customers are hippies, so he may be toast.

Not from what I’ve seen at the blog’s. Plus he’s quite rich...so ‘toast’ is a relative term for him. However, I’ve heard they have great bread there at Whole Foods!

THANK YOU for posting that, I was not aware of his bold op-ed earlier in the week.

"A careful reading of both the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution will not reveal any intrinsic right to health care, food or shelter. That's because there isn't any. This "right" has never existed in America."

This guy sounds like Rush, Levin, Prager, Hewitt, even Hannity is not this courageous.

I'll be right back, I'm going to spend some money at Whole Foods now....

Time to support John Mackey, both on the ABC Blog and with your shopping! This is something we can do right now!!

I'll pass, thanks. His health care plan for his employees sounds great to me, but I won't be shopping there for other reasons.

From the article:
Despite his financial success, this is not the first time Mackey has become fodder for criticism. In 2007, it was discovered that Mackey had been using a pseudonym to post blogs lambasting Whole Foods' competitor, Wild Oats Market, and questioning the worth of the company's stock.

The postings were made public when Mackey announced his desire to buy Wild Oats Market, and a lawsuit was filed by the Federal Trade Commission over concerns that the purchase would violate antitrust laws

“I love Whole Foods’ product mix, but the fascist hippie customers and ostentatiously pierced staff members have always been a drawback. Now, maybe, not so much. It might be worth the drive over there more often.”

No, no, you must be 45 years old and still taking the bus, to get the full effect.

“I despise Whole Foods”.

But ... but ... isn’t that where our Dear President buys his overpriced arugula ???

I used to love to shop at Whole Foods, but then we moved. I thought that the nearest store was about 35 miles away, but I just checked their website and found one that’s only 10 miles, which, in California miles, is nothing. I will go there from now on for all my supplements, vitamins, whole grains, and of course those incredible almond crescent cookies!
