WASHINGTON A lecture by the woman who became the public face of the Abu Ghraib scandal was canceled Friday at the Library of Congress after threats led to concerns about staff safety.
Former Army reservist Lynndie England had been scheduled to discuss her biography as part of a veterans forum on Capitol Hill. The book by author Gary S. Winkler is called "Tortured: Lynndie England, Abu Ghraib and the Photographs That Shocked the World."
Members of the Library of Congress Professional Association, the employee group holding the talk, received an e-mail from president Angela Kinney saying the event was canceled due to staff safety concerns. A spokeswoman for the library said Kinney would not comment further.
The group had received "numerous expressions of protest" about the lecture from its members, the e-mail said.
David Moore, a Vietnam War veteran and German acquisitions specialist at the library who organized the event, said he received several e-mails threatening violence and shared them with police and the library's inspector general.

He added, "Free speech in America is pretty well dead."
Sounds as if the attack on Town Halls has just escalated.
Lynndie England? She’s the disgraced soldier who claimed she and her band of thugs were following orders and the pictures were intended for training interogation techniques.
She also engaged in pornographic photography with Grainer, the married prison supervisor (and the father of her child), and with other prison guards. I guess those pictures were for training, too!
By the way, she was in the Admin career field. She had no authorization to be in that prison.
Nasty little girl doesn’t deserve any airtime....It’s not about free speech (what do you think the book is??)....It’s about this piece of sh** promoting her book via the Library of Congress.
If it was up to me, I would have pardoned Ms. England and everyone else involved in the college fraternity hazing events that took place at Abu Ghraib, simply to piss off the liberals.
That girl is an embarrassment that needs to be covered up. Why would anyone promote her?
In all seriousness, she probably cost lives of American soldiers. If I were her, I’d buy a retreat in Montana and hopefully never be seen again.
WOW, it seems as if I didn’t make it clear
The point I was trying to make was the Left is using this to attack Town Hall meetings.
It was intended to show how they are going after our Free Speech right.

Using this woman as anything, especially as an example of free speech, is as I said before "embarrassing". I hope she does not identify herself with the right wing faction, we have enough idgits on our side, bury her, never dig her up.
And OUR point is that we do not like this person. She is a disgrace to the Army and liar who refused to take responsibility for her criminal behavior.
And, Ozarkgirl, please do not send her to Montana; we still believe in the ideals upon which America was founded.
Did I say I would “send” her to Montana? If I were her, I’d be ashamed and hide myself in Montana or anywhere else I could find outside of the public eye. She and her boyfriend were obviously twisted and if I were her, I would not want to face the public.
She probably cost lives of American soldiers, if she even cost one life, it would be enough. She needs to go away.
If she wants to make a total fool of herself and her Country again, fine, go ahead but she would deserve everything she gets.
Ms. England did a grave disservice to her country, she disgraced the uniform and besmirched the reputation of every member of the service. What she did was inexcusable.
I agree on the scale of human abuse this ranks as petty, but it had profound consequences on the U.S. efforts to win the confidence of the Iraqi people. Soldiers died because of jihadis she recruited.

All correct, the little slut violated a direct order to get her rocks off. She should have been shot instead of trying to get rich off of a book that should be titled me and my hot ass. No, it sounds like this sorry POS is trying to grab a headline to sell his and her sick book. I say his because he has to be the ghost writer, that woman is to dumb/ignorant to write a book.
What has become of General Janice Karpinsky (sp)?
So where are all the urgent, high priority, BOLOs ging out to the FBI offices,BT&F, Crime Task Forces, and police Depts and Sherrifs offices about the impending and dire threats posed by Armed and Dangerous Left Wing Fringe Groups and Leftist Lone Wolves, out to kill veteransnad attack institutions of the U.S. Govt????
What they did that was not by the book? They took pictures. I dont believe that taking pictures for the fun of it is Army procedure, then again I am not in the Army.
WTH are you talking about? When did I say they "went by the book?
Like I said before, Lynndie England was in the Admin career field. She had no authorization to be in the cell blocks.
The officer responsible for the prison, Gen Janis Karpinski (ret), lacked an adequate security clearance to enter the area. She was a Clinton promotee.
Karpinski is also a member of "The World Can't Wait to Drive Out the Bush Regime." She shares this "honor" with Ward Churchill, Mumia Abu-Jamal, Jesse Jackson and US Rep John Conyer.
At the time of the incident, Grainer (an Army Guardsman), the supervisor at the prison, was on probation from his regular job as a prison guard due to misconduct.
Grainer was in and adulterous relationship with England.
Clearly, Abu Ghraib lacked adult supervison. Do you still they were "going by the book?"
Last I heard she's a member of several progressive liberal and communist organizations. Sorry for the redundency.
just a test
