n 1931, a severe drought began that within a few years engulfed the Oklahoma panhandle and a third of the Great Plains in a "Dust Bowl." Tens of thousands of people fled the regionmany traveling to California along Route 66, which John Steinbeck called "the mother road, the road of flight" in "The Grapes of Wrath."
A lot of the "Okies" settled in the San Joaquin Valley. In the decades that followed, state and federal officials built dams and other irrigation projects that helped turn the valley into some of the world's richest farmland.

I cannot tell you how angry this makes me. Hannity had a good show that included a segment about this earlier in the week, I’m thinking.
These environmentalists and animal rights nuts are perfectly content to destroy every single productive industry in this nation.
They want us to have:
no energy, either for heat or cooling
no employment, to support our families
no transportation
no water, to save our domestic food production
no commerce of any kind
I wish I’d saved something I read a month or two ago. It described how the commune-loving hippies of the sixties are finally building their dream nation.
(I said in another post, on another topic that my dad, after the Manson murders said to me: “I wonder what these people will do when they’re old enough to be in charge of this place.” I was prolly 9 years old then and couldn’t figure him out.)
So here’s where they have delivered us: Back to the Future. Right back to the 1400’s or so.
I have to disagree with you at one point. I don't think they're "perfectly content" to destroy productive industries; I think they hungrily lust to. Until about 15 years ago I was a member of the Knoxville, TN chapter of the Sierra Club. I left in complete disgust because each business meeting was devoted primarily to discussions of how one industrial development or another could be sabatoged.
The central valley has a conservative voting record, so of course the environmentalists will get the nod....

This is but a small foretaste of what the world planned by the environmental anarchists will be like. Think three cities in the Florida Keys, Key West, Marathon, and one on Key Largo. The US will have severe population limits.. Of course, alligators, cougars, and bears can roam anywhere.
In the US, humans become second rate citizens, while “nature” flourishes. Pantheism anyone?
This is another land grab by so-called environmentalists - they grabbed a substancial part of the Klamath Valley in Oregon over water the fish needed, and the farmers, who had been practicing sustainable farming fo generations, lost.
These so-called environmentalist organizations (American Rivers the Nature Conservancy) are among the largest un-taxed land holders in the US, and are using the courts to become larger and wealthier.
I firmly believe that we should try to protect the endangered
species and that we have a duty to sacrifice to achieve that end. So I propose that we limit bathing to once a week in all major cities with a population greater than 100,000 people. That should free up enough water to allow a lot of fish to swim.
We can’t recall our Federal officials, though. The state ones aren’t the problem in this particular case. The biggest problem if the bunch is a specific Demonrat public serpent named George Miller (D-East Bay Whackoland) who heads the committee that controls this sort of thing and positively HATES the Central Valley and the farmers there. To him, it’s PERSONAL.
I heard some time back that he got jacked up by someone in Alaska while visiting a bar in Ketchikan. Perhaps we can buy him a plane ticket and a drink.
I am suprised no one has tried to take the judge out. Valley farmers have a history of protecting what is theirs. Google Pixley cotton strike.
And, frankly, fewer of us human species populating mother earth would suit them. Especially those of us not in full agreement with them.
They keep this up they are going to cause the first “Great American Famine”, Followed by CWII.
