The Obama Administration : What Went Wrong
NRO ^ | August 17, 2009 | Victor Davis Hanson

Posted on 08/17/2009 9:16:58 AM PDT by RobinMasters

We are witnessing one of the more rapid turnabouts in recent American political history. President Obama’s popularity has plummeted to 50 percent and lower in some polls, while the public expresses even less confidence in the Democratic-led Congress and the direction of the country at large. Yet, just eight months ago, liberals were talking in Rovian style about a new generation to come of progressive politics — and the end of both the Republican party and the legacy of Reaganism itself. Barack Obama was to be the new FDR and his radical agenda an even better New Deal.

What happened, other than the usual hubris of the party in power?

First, voters had legitimate worries about health care, global warming, immigration, energy, and inefficient government. But it turns out that they are more anxious about the new radical remedies than the old nagging problems. They wanted federal support for wind and solar, but not at the expense of neglecting new sources of gas, oil, coal, and nuclear power. They were worried about high-cost health care, the uninsured, redundant procedures, and tort reform, but not ready for socialized medicine. They wanted better government, not bigger, DMV-style government. There is a growing realization that Obama enticed voters last summer with the flashy lure of discontent. But now that they are hooked, he is reeling them in to an entirely different — and, for many a frightening — agenda. Nothing is worse for a president than a growing belief among the public that it has been had.

Americans need to be very vigilant: Obama and his loathsome COS staff Rahm Emanuel are very calculated in their use of power. As dissent among the populace grows, they are capable of plotting staged events to boost their advantage...

...CITIZEN ALERT Obama/Rahm are purposefully antagonizing large groups in middle America, goading us into civil unrest. This would give these America haters an excuse to declare Martial Law.

This is something I wonder about and fear - civil unrest - blood shed - martial law. If civil unrest can't be provoked, there's always FEMA and a national health emergency (H1N1) with a complete suspension of your civil rights. The pieces needed to do this have already been put in place over the last 2 - 3ad ministrations.

Easy, he pretended to be something he wasn't to get elected then went to DC thinking people voted for the real him, not the him he portrayed on the campaign trail.

For example what happened to the Obama who said "taxcuts for 95% of American, End our dependence on Foreign oil, a post racial Presidient etc etc etc"?

There is no Republican leader to lead the counter-offensive into the shattered front of the Demoncrats.

Contrary to Establishment Republican dogma, the American people do not need some counter Messiah to save them from the Zero. They are doing just fine on their own, Thank you.

I’ve thought of something else that compares to Americorps:

The Red Army was formed after Mao had led his followers into the mountains on the Hunan-Jiangxi border. To start with, the Red Army only numbered 1000 men but by 1928, it stood at 12,000 strong as many peasants came to join Mao. For them, Mao offered a future.

Mao’s tactics were very simple:

“The enemy advances, we retreat.
The enemy camps, we harass.
The enemy tires, we attack.
The enemy retreats, we pursue.”

The Red Army was sent out to help the peasants in Hunan. This help, given free of charge, converted many to the cause of Mao. The Red Army also had to abide by the “Six Principles of the Red Army”.

Put back all doors when you leave a house
Rice-stalk mattresses must all be bundled up again and returned
Be polite. Help people when you can.
Give back everything you borrow, even if it’s only a needle.
Pay for all things broken, even if only a chopstick.
Don’t help yourself or search for things when people are not in their houses.

In time, local communities in Hunan did not see the Red Army as a threat. It was this unexpected treatment that converted many to the Communists. It also lead to a big increase in the number of people who wanted to join the Red Army.

I really think that a bad case of hubris covers most arguments.

But when I say bad case, I really mean a entirely new level of self interest and indulgence in party politics.

We saw it coming. The media and the Rockefeller repubs missed it. They are the only ones with a hint of surprise on their faces.

[[You elect someone with a paper thin resume, no leadership experience, and (if you actually listen to what he says) he has overt marxist tendencies (paraphrased response to Joe the Plummer, ‘taxes are good because they spread the wealth...’) - yeah, I suppose eventually disappointment (reality) might sink in...]]

Abnd all the people who voted for him stand around scratchign their heads and proclaiming “Golly- we didn’t see that ione coming- He blindsided us”

The signs were ALL there BEFORE he got elected, but noone seemed to care at that point- all they could htink about was ‘what’s in it for me- socialism, spread the wealth- rob fro mthe rich and give to hte poor’ but little did they realize, ANYONE that isn’t deemed as ‘disinfranchised’ by the liberals are concidered ‘rich’, and now these peopel ARE goign to have to pay aheavy heavy price for their mistaken belief that big govenrment was goign to give them all a wheelbarrow full of cash

Golly- Duped again- (and again, and again, and again- seems these peopel will NEVER learn that the far left is made up of nothign but socialist LIARS!)

Did they say *what* the government was going to do, specifically?

If this is anything like the Vista folks back in the 70s, they will discredit themselves, quickly. Basically, Vista workers were mostly hippie drug users who were very efficient at transmitting STDs.And very little else. Afterward, it was amazing how many AODA counselors turned out to be former Vista workers. I was told that many were currently in AA, as well.

I was stunned. I had no idea these people were fanning out across the country

Americorp volunteers have been around and working in communities since Bill Clinton stated the program. It is an extension of the old Vista volunteer program started by LBJ.

In most cases, they are harmless kids being paid for community services in order to pay off student loans or to get money for college. However, since the One wants his own "domestic force", keeping a close eye on them might not be a bad idea. But I think most are probably harmless.

There has to be a sponsoring organization, in this case it sounds like the school district. Any concerns you might have should be directed to the sponsors since they are the ones receiving the funds to pay the volunteers.

How will they do it? Easy. Obama has given ACORN billions of tax dollars to form a Civilian Security Force to silence the populace, and march us to reeducation camps.]]

Let em try- when they attempt to start rounding people up for ‘crimes’ that aren’t crimes, good, law abiding citizens will give them somethign to really scream bloody murder about

He exposed himself. He let slip the loose stalk about "End of Life" counseling which riled seniors, including Democrats.

Thank you for takign hte time to post that-This hsould be sent to Glen Beck so he can place it on his website so that this message will get out loud and clear- I had posted soemthign similar on my blog before Barack was elected- and the comments I got were ‘He doesn’t really beleive those htings’ etc- Yeah- people often write books about htings they ‘don’t really beleive’.

Obama IS a racist- plain and simple- the FACTS, which he personally put into print for all to see, speak for themselves- Can you imagine if a white person running for the presidency had written those htigns, only in reverse? Yet, because obama is 1/2 black, he gets a completely free pass from the main stream media, and because obama lies htrough his teeth declaring he wants to work in a ‘bipartisan manner’ (then turns around and snidely and arrogantly tells the GOP “Don’t forget who it was that got elected” or somehtign to that effect), the people fall for his deceitful line of BS, and elect him thinking he’s goign to be a uniter, but since his election, his true colors have surfaced, and peopel are beginning to think ‘Hmmm, I guess he really DID mean all those racist things he said in his book”

The Stimulus Bill became a way for dems in congress to pay back friends, not stimulate the economy.

Gates - NO, liberal elites are NOT above the law - and the puffed-up, haughty comment, “Don’t you know who I am?” has been pulled by every liberal from dog catcher on up. It’s even less amusing when the President gets “stupidly” involved.

Bail outs of “too large to fail” companies that scammed citizens who are NOT “too large to fail”.

Taking over the auto industry.

Cash for clunkers - picking economic winners and losers.

Flag - going after private citizens...

Townhall meetings - paid liberal shills vs citizens...

etc.
