NEW YORK, Aug. 17 (UPI) -- U.S. President Barack Obama, former President Bill Clinton and ex-astronaut Buzz Aldrin are to attend a memorial service for Walter Cronkite, officials said.

Cronkite died July 17. He was 92. His funeral was July 24 in New York.

The New York Post said the luminaries are scheduled to speak at the Sept. 9 event at Manhattan's Lincoln Center.

Also reportedly on the guest list are television personality Nick Clooney, CBS executives and newspeople Les Moonves, Sean McManus and Bob Schieffer, veteran broadcast journalist Tom Brokaw and media mogul Howard Stringer.

The Post said Wynton Marsalis, Michael Feinstein, Jimmy Buffett and Mickey Hart, as well as the U.S. Marine Corps band, are lined up to perform.

Sure seems like a long time between death and the memorial. Must have had to wait till after the Messiah took his vacation around the country.

Obama had to postpone the memorial for the grandmother who RAISED him.

And Bill Clinton famously celebrated his birthday months after the fact at that Rolling Stones concert in NYC (the one Scorese filmed).

Remember Chevy Chase on the old SNL? Herein updated:

“Walter Cronkite is still dead. And that’s the way it is.”

His statue? He might have wanted a giant upraised middle finger aimed at and in front of Arlington National Cemetery. On the D.C. side, of course.

(I attended a veteran’s funeral there just four days ago so this comes from the gut as well as the heart. Cronkite was pure evil to our fighting brave both living and rewarded.)

Cronkite retired on March 6, 1981 or when Obama was 19. I guess we will hear how much Walter influenced his life.
