NEW YORK, Aug. 17 (UPI) -- U.S. President Barack Obama, former President Bill Clinton and ex-astronaut Buzz Aldrin are to attend a memorial service for Walter Cronkite, officials said.
Cronkite died July 17. He was 92. His funeral was July 24 in New York.
The New York Post said the luminaries are scheduled to speak at the Sept. 9 event at Manhattan's Lincoln Center.
Also reportedly on the guest list are television personality Nick Clooney, CBS executives and newspeople Les Moonves, Sean McManus and Bob Schieffer, veteran broadcast journalist Tom Brokaw and media mogul Howard Stringer.
The Post said Wynton Marsalis, Michael Feinstein, Jimmy Buffett and Mickey Hart, as well as the U.S. Marine Corps band, are lined up to perform.

Had Rush died while Bush was in office, it would have been equally inappropriate for him to attend.
Think Obama ever ‘knew’ who he was? Doubt it. . .but what a great opportunity for face time. There is a collective conceit here that just reeks. . .
This is a disgraceful misuse of the Marine Corps Band. I feel sorry for those poor band members that have to suck it up for this travesty.

I’ve been to many Evangelical gatherings with modern song & lyrics (and I’m Catholic, BTW). These are my Christian brothers and sisters and Christ Himself calls me into their midst to worship and give thanks.
All those who call unto Christ for salvation, shall all be saved by our Lord and Redeemer.
