Minnesota Senator Al Franken made a stop at the Mayo Clinic today as the U.S. Senate works on its own health care reform bill.
One of the more heavily debated issues when it comes to reform is that so-called public option or government run health care.
So today, we found out where Minnesota’s Senators Al Franken and Amy Klobuchar stand on that very topic.
Minnesota Senator Al Franken walked into the Kahler Grand Hotel this afternoon after touring Mayo Clinic.
Health care reform is one of the biggest domestic issues facing the federal government right now and Franken was quick to say he supports the President's idea of a public health care option.
"There's been a lot of misinformation about it. It's been called government take over health care. There's been a lot of figures thrown around that are really misleading,” says Sen. Al Franken.
Senator Amy Klobuchar, who was in Minneapolis today, says the slightly different not-for-profit co-op, may be the way to go.
"And one of the things we're starting to hear is we want to have some tug on the insurance companies so they offer good rates to us. We want to have some type of competition,” says Sen. Amy Klobuchar.
Both senators seem to be in line with what the President is proposing.
He spoke about the public option during a town hall meeting in Colorado on Friday.
"And the idea here would be that a government run non-for-profit would have its own option that people could sign up for. They wouldn't have to, but the could sign up for it and if it would keep its costs lower and provide a good quality service and good benefits... than that would help keep the insurance companies honest,” says President Barack Obama.
Whatever the final outcome is all three agree it has to resemble what Mayo Clinic is already doing.
"If we did health care around the country like we did in Minnesota all of this would be paid for,” says Franken.
The issue of a public option is likely to come up in Mankato later this week.
That's when, as we've reported Congressman Tim Walz will host a town hall forum on health care reform.
That happens at Mankato East High School this Thursday.
The doors open at 5:30.
Franken should have toured the VA Hospital before the Government got caught and had to clean it up, then he might appreciate what the free market has allowed to evolve in the Mayo Clinic
Obama, Franken, Klobachar, Pelosi, Reed, and the rest of the elected Democrats will ruin the Mayo Clinic for it's Patients as well as the Doctors and Nurses

Clearly if Franken likes Public Option then it is definitely a bad idea. Here we have a piss poor comedian who somehow got it in his empty head that he was smart enough (pun intended) to be hold a public office.
I’m betting that until today he thought the Mayo Clinic was where they made Mayonnaise.

Some years ago, my stepmother was diagnosed with cancer, we live in Texas. While she was able, she flew to MD Anderson Houston for treatments (I realize the topic is Mayo Clinic but this is a parallel), she had a simple medical plan, not designed for catastrophic diseases.
My stepsister would meet her there and put her on the plane after treatment and recuping a bit and I would meet her here. It was a family effort, there were also flight discounts that she found out about in her situation. She was a cheerful lady, always had a smile. She paid EVERY MONTH $100.00, that was her commitment. She NEVER received a dun, ever, nothing but a receipt and a “Thank You”, this on a bill that must have amounted to hundreds of thousands of dollars.
She had nothing but praise for those folks at MD Anderson, she said that she was treated with top care.
I think the world of those wonderful people. She said that a person is obligated, has a responsibility to pay as much a feasible and be regular. I strongly believe that her payment was looked upon by MD Anderson Houston as the “Widow’s Mite”, remember that story?

Anyone who’d even think about voting for Franken is too dumb to apply reason to anything.
This is part of the irony. Once they shut them down, they can't start it up just because a VIP needs brain surgery. An institution like this is like the Space Shuttle, once it gets grounded, nobody rides.
One of my Dad’s acquaintances used to say $50 a month to the Mayo Clinic was the best Health Insurance
