A layer cake of stupidity, starting with the fact that this guy’s actually doubling down on one of the dumbest gaffes committed by The One since he took office. Parse his logic: If we didn’t have the postal service as an alternative to private carriers like Fed Ex, UPS, and DHL, what, oh what, would stop them from charging $100 per letter? Any theories, possibly involving basic economic dynamics and/or longstanding federal statutes? For fun, try putting the question to a fifth-grader and see if he comes up with an answer more incisive than Triple J.
To think, some people are worried that Obamanomics is based on a very, very deep misunderstanding of economics.
The proliferation of Obamas gaffes and non sequiturs on health care has exceeded the allowable limit. He has failed repeatedly to explain how the government will provide more (health care) for less (money). He has failed to explain why increased demand for medical services without a concomitant increase in supply wont lead to rationing by government bureaucrats as opposed to the market. And he has failed to explain why a Medicare-like model is desirable when Medicare itself is going broke.
The public is left with one of two unsettling conclusions: Either the president doesnt understand the health-insurance reform plans working their way through Congress, or he understands both the plans and the implications and is being untruthful about the impact.
Neither option is good; ignorance is clearly preferable to the alternative.
Preferable, yes, but less likely. Exit question one: Who wants to break the news to Jackson that the money-hemorrhaging postal service has a legal monopoly on first-class mail, which, possibly, means we pay more to send a letter than we would if Fed Ex et al. were allowed to compete? Exit question two: If Jackson’s so worried about monopoly power over health care, why on earth would he support a public option whose creator openly admits that it’s bound to lead to single-payer? Again, is this ignorance or just dishonest spin?
Comedy can be found now-a-days in the darnedest places!
It is illegal for the competing carriers to deliver letters (apart from the overnight variety). And now the post office wants to restrict services to weekdays only. Why not take Wednesday off instead? Because then they can charge even more for weekend delivery.
And the Post Office now partners with Fed-Ex.
And STILL the post office is going broke.
How long would medicare last if the doctors couldn’t push off the rest of the bill on the insurance companies? Why do you think we pay $5 for a single asprin at the hospital?
They seriously think because they changed the words from government run to ‘public option’ people aren’t going to know the difference, there is no difference, its’ still government takeover of the health system. Well, we saw how well man made disasters vs. terrorism, went over...
Heck, we might not even have e-mail if it weren't for the post office....or was that Al Gore....
J-Cubed has to support the big O, or that messy little issue re buying the senate seat will come back
dishonesty. Liberals can’t win by being honest
I got a letter yesterday from the census bureau demanding that I fill out my census. Too bad the letter was meant for a guy on the other side of town and was delivered to me by mistake. It was not even close! Why do I feel like the census is going to be just as misdirected as the post office?
Don’t forget, members of Congress get free mailing (franking). To them, the PO looks like a great deal.
or co-op. government run co-ops are not co-ops
The same Post Office that's folds in half the vintage autographed photo of Lana Turner that was clearly marked, “do not bend”?
The same Post Office that delivers mail to the wrong house?
the same Post Office that coined a new phrase, “going postal”?
The same Post Office that ask me if my wafer thin 8x10 shipping envelope I am mailing contains liquids or glass containers?
Well, we saw how well man made disasters vs. terrorism, went over...
+++++++++++++
Is there any doubt these clowns are Orwellian?
And THIS is the guy the Machine has selected to be the next Senator from IL? LOL!!
Why do i feel the census is going to double the population of every major metro area.
That’s what I was thinking (I just don’t know how much of their postal business is covered by franking).
They did me one better— after I moved and rented a PO box from them, they began returning all my mail, credit card statements, bills, etc. almost ruining me before I figured out where my mail was going. When I told them, they just shrugged... not their problem. Then I had to let it go, or no telling what else would happen
I think our postal workers do a good job, but the price of a stamp takes into account the massive costs of employing tens of thousands perhaps hundreds of thousand workers along with their medical and worker comp benefits.
Privatizing the post office or a portion of it would save the gov’t and American billions of dollar and guess what, you’d probably be getting even Sunday mail if you wanted it.
