Bloomberg Wants to "Counter" the NRA

Friday, August 14, 2009

It is old news to gun owners that New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg is not a friend.  As one of the leading proponents of new gun laws, Bloomberg has already earned his place in the Second Amendment rights hall of shame.  But apparently, Hizzoner does not believe he is doing enough to destroy our rights.

On an appearance on "Meet the Press," Bloomberg announced that he would raise money to counter the influence of the NRA.  Bloomberg was on the show to trumpet the 39 votes he was able to muster to squeak out a narrow defeat of national Right-to-Carry reciprocity. (To read more about the Thune/Vitter amendment, click here.)  He took the opportunity to lament that the NRA has so much influence -- and took upon himself the role of countering that influence.

Of course, as anti-gunners regularly do, Bloomberg ignores the fact that the NRA only has clout because we represent the beliefs of tens of millions of Americans who oppose the anti-gun agenda.  Recent polling has repeatedly shown that the majority of Americans support the individual Right to Keep and Bear Arms.

And though it must be very frustrating to mayor Bloomberg, that support is growing.  A recent poll by Zogby International revealed that 83% of Americans support Right-to-Carry laws.  Bloomberg will no doubt continue to trumpet the 39-vote procedural "victory," but the reality is, the American people are on the side of Second Amendment freedoms.

Perhaps part of the problem is the inherent dishonesty of Bloomberg's position.  He claims to be opposed to "Illegal" guns, but his latest effort targeted the rights of law-abiding people who already carry a gun legally. To Bloomberg, any gun he does not like is an "illegal" gun.

Mayor Bloomberg and his group "Mayors Against Illegal Guns" represent a serious threat because of the attention the media will give them and the resources a billionaire like Bloomberg has at his disposal.  That's the money he is once again promising to use to fight against our Second Amendment rights. Fortunately, America's law-abiding gun owners know how to fight the misinformation and anti-gun rhetoric of Mayor Bloomberg and his allies.  NRA will continue to closely monitor Bloomberg's anti-gun activities and will keep you informed about his efforts.

If anyone has Bloombergs’s email address, please pass that along.

Everyone knows of Columbine, but few know of the daily accounts of guns saving lives.

My very liberal sister lives there and loves it. It was her ultimate destination and rebellion from her redneck upbringing. Perhaps we could wall it off like in the movie, Escape From New York, and let all the crazies live there. Since I love my sister, blowing her up seems a little extreme.

How about everyone gets a chance to rescue one loved one and/or help one move there first.

I have asked NRA members to put the initials in the tagline. So far very few Freepers are members.

It’s amazing even when the NRA was giving away free memberships, you would be surprised how many Freepers were too afraid to get on a “list”. I was even warned about putting family pictures on my profile page.

I signed my brother up recently. A cousin joined before I could ask him. Right after the election I extended my membership by 5 years.

Wait for a group of Freepers complaining about NRA fundraiser letters.

Now that you mention it, I haven't seen a mailing from them in quite some time. Now, the past two weeks they've been working the phone bank overtime; at least two calls per day on my Caller I.D. - and I just donated about a month ago!

Someone really should give the callers an updated list.

Hmm, must've missed that thread. Done.

I'm pretty sure I'm on multiple lists by now. May as well let it all hang out.

Why does this dung-beetle not just declare itself a dim-bulb-crat and complete the cycle of doom?

He used to be, but switched when he saw an opportunity to run unopposed in the "Republican" mayoral primary, but still using a Democrap platform. Apparently the other Republican was out of town that month.

You never know. Depending on how close she was to the blast center, it might work out like the suicidal guy who tried to blow his brains out, but only destroyed the part of his brain responsible for his depression. Sort of a Billy Bubba lobotomy. Course I'd rather have a bottle in front of me than a frontal lobotomy.

Excellent. He should start by recruiting five million people who agree with his cause so passionately they'll send him money, plus another hundred million that agree with him in general terms.

On an appearance on “Meet the Press,” Bloomberg announced that he would raise money to counter the influence of the NRA, the nation’s oldest civil rights organization.

Bloomberg was on the show to trumpet the 39 votes he was able to muster to squeak out a narrow victory in his fight against the Bill of Rights.
