This is an excellent platform to run on in 2010.

Here’s my proposal; don’t vote for anyone with a law degree.

Mind you, it’s valuable to have a lawyer’s advice when writing laws. But they should be used as consultants. When lawyers are legislators, we confuse the issue of how a law is crafted to achieve an end with determining what the end should be in the first place. Lawyers have special expertise that’s valuable for the former. They have no special expertise in the latter and numerous conflicts of interest.

This is what Washington fears...

Average Joe's like Sarah Palin and Mr. Schiff that have common sense and will drain the freakin swamp.

That ad on TV about what if Fireman ran the House and Senate is spot on.

My money is on this lady from Texas a nurse that is running against the Dem and that politican with the too good hair Perry.

Any Politican with really good hair shoudl not be be in office, Pomney and Edwards are two good examples....

I have been sayiong for eon's if Michael Steele had any cohones, he would as for a letter of resignation effective in 2011 from all Republicans and field a clean slate of 535 - 66 to run in 2010 that have never been politicans before....

Join the 535 Club. Remove the 535 current members of Congress and replace them with 535 new members.

The downside, of course, is that the more inexperienced the legislators, the more powerful become the unelected staffers who will be expected to provide continuity.

The only way that getting rid of the career politicians would be an improvement, would be if the Federal Government were drastically reduced at the same time.

Sounds like a good plan ... though it's probably not a realistic one until something very bad happens.

Individuals who become career politicians
Individuals? How about entire families.

The biggest obstacle for Schiff will be winning the GOP nomination over RINO Rob Simmons who is the CT Republican machine’s anointed. Beating Dodd will be a cakewalk after that.

senate: 2-4 year terms, house 2-4 year terms, stagger the election dates. Cannot run for the other house without sitting out at least 4 years. 90 day sessions every year. Deal with the budget and whatever they need to and go home. President can call them back for serious national crisis only.

No private planes. No flights or trips paid by any business, organization, other country, or private parties.

No money from businesses, persons or foreign governments.

Health care only while serving. No pension. Give them a small benefit they can invest or spend as they choose.

No fund raising except in their election year. Minimize funds from the party.

Free air time for candidates on local or state-wide tv.

No speaking honorarium while in office.

Cannot lobby for 4 years after leaving office. Cannot work for a foreign business or government for 4 years.

I'm sure there's more, but that's a start.

We need term limits ASAP. Ever notice how Republicans elevated to the Senate lose most pretension of being conservative? They are now members of an exclusive club and their conduct is dedicated to the goal of being popular with the other members and getting sympathetic interviews on talk shows.

The one great blunder of the founders—no term limits. The founders understood corruption, betrayal and treason. Heck, they lived with these things and fought a revolution to correct them. But they did NOT foresee government by those who have nothing but contempt for their own nation and a heartfelt desire to destroy it. Correcting it will require a second American revolution.

I’ve thought for a while that if the legislative agenda of Congress is formed by the opposition of two conflicting groups, then it shouldn’t matter *which* two groups are making their respective pitches.

And so, my concept is to dissolve Congress as it currently exists and re-form Congress from the Crips and the Bloods currently incarcerated in our state prisons.

The savings in transportation costs alone would be huge.

And don’t forget the people who have made a career as capitol hill staffers. These are the people who write the 1,000 plus pages of nonsense that gets shoved down our throats, make deals to get issues in front of 535. The congressman/senator is just the name on the bill/vote.
