How hard is it to determine if an SSN has been “recycled”?
Anyhow it’s perfectly legal for cops to lie — there may have been no statement by the workers about their legal status, but they may have left their I9 cards at home too so couldn’t prove it.
Whoops, did have I9 cards. Sounds fishy that they would just say they they were illegales after having told the farmer otherwise for years. What could be in it for them?
