Lutherans adopt more open view on homosexuality (Godless ELCA)

MINNEAPOLIS, MN - Leaders of the country's largest Lutheran denomination have moved toward a more welcoming view of homosexuality.

Delegates of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, meeting in Minneapolis, approved a "social statement on human sexuality" that acknowledges differing views on homosexuality. It says the ELCA is strong enough to accommodate such differences.

Wednesday's vote was a prelude to votes scheduled Friday on whether to let people in same-sex relationships serve as Lutheran ministers.

If only these 'leaders' put as much emphasis on the church's mission of saving souls and preaching the gospel as they do in destructing their church.

I switched to the Missouri Synod decades ago as I felt the ELCA was far too liberal for my views on faith.

This is the beginning of the end for the Lutheran church, IMO. Heretics have taken over; there is no "adult" leadership.

Why is there such a need to do this? Do they so desire to open up their congregations to this silly crap? Christianity has a clear mandate and it looks even more foolish playing this game. There are only two valid relationships endorsed in the bible in both the new and old testament. Only celibacy and cleaving to one’s wife are biblical. You can not be a believer and endorse homosexuality or any other pseudo sexual relationship without endorsing a clear contradiction to your faith. Whether it be religious or secular the idea of a homosexual relationship is a contradiction and it should be seen even more so by those who do not believe because such relationships make an organism less fit, more prone to disease, with a shorter lifespan.

Those who believe accepting homosexuality and other ideas sourced from a hedonist/low/primitive worldview are proving they are faithless because faith has at its core the idea that through grace we are forgiven and that we can become more like Christ not simply resign ourselves to indulge the low beliefs no matter how popular of a sinful world.

True Christianity this is not! Another faction of Christians pealing further off into apostasy because they haven't the foggiest idea about the meaning of the word of G_d.

Let’s be sure if we talk about this story we qualify it as the ELCA...not the Missouri Synod. The posters are right on with their comments about homosexuality and Scripture.

Guess these people are finding a new meaning in Luther’s concept about the BACK SIDE OF GOD (being revealed in the cross).

"Pretty soon there’ll be the Catholics, the Southern Baptists and....well,that's about it. "

15 years ago my wife and I swam the Tiber from the ELCA to the Catholic Church and have been greatly blessed ever since. For those in the ELCA or any other denominations who may be standing on the banks of the Tiber contemplating a swim of their own, I can only say "Come on in, the water's fine!"

What about the Wisconsin Synod? What is their stand on this issue?

I don't know who this "G_d" person is either. Do you mean "God"?

....same thing with Presbyterian Church USA....is it any wonder that it has been in decline for years?

Good question. One reason is pressure exerted by a small but well organized group. Beyond that, I couldn't say.

Heretics long ago took over the ELCA, However there are synods that remains true to Christianity - The LCMS, WElS and a few smaller ones. Unfortunately, I’m beginning to think we will have to find something other than Lutheran to call ourselves - I want nothing in common with the ELCA, not even the name.

to the Catholic Church and have been greatly blessed ever since

Is it the idolatry of the Mass that blesses you so, or is it the bogus priesthood (they have nothing to offer), or maybe it's just the worship of Mary that is such a thrill for you? Surely it is not the belief in faith+works for salvation that convinces you.

Salvation comes by faith alone, through Christ alone.

I am Jewish, but am (frankly) sick of these so called religious leaders [whatever their stripe] distorting their own religion. If they want to start a new faith, fine, but leave the rest of us alone. My breaking point was when our rabbi decided to bless same sex unions. I had tolerated his liberal rants on Shabbat and high holidays for years, but this was it for me. I left his congregation (as did maybe 1/3 of the others). For months afterwards I got phone calls and letters urging me to reconsider and professing puzzlement as to why this was so divisive an issue. One even went as far to tell me to drop the “hatred in my heart”. I wrote a letter back effectively telling them to pi$$ off. There are some issues where you just need to draw the line—compromise be damned.
